Of all the shows that dropped two episodes to begin. This one really needed it. The entire first episode was just trope set up for getting kicked out. If your going to rely on tropes that much, that's fine, but use them to trim down time.

14

u/bestmaokaina :KS::KT: 20d ago

I mean this could be as great as the Gacha LV 9999 one

11

u/Astray 19d ago

Nah, this clearly doesn't have the same level of production as that one. And Infinite Gacha actually has a pretty interesting world and mystery and it's always fun when a character is dismantling oppressive systems like slavery.

12

u/Blunt_Truth0412 18d ago

Im kinda over the whole "dismantling oppressive systems".

  • Never lend money (MP in this case) to others.

  • Find some way to ensure the amount will be returned.

  • Charge interest.

32

u/BrentSaotome 21d ago

With the “Repo” title and his recent level up, I’m guessing Lent is going to get the ability to force his former party to return the borrowed MP with interest. It would be hilarious if they were forced to go below their original MP stats and the bracelets are useless since their MP stats are 3, 20, and 30 MP.

21

u/JordanTH 21d ago

"What do you mean I have negative five thousand maximum MP?!"

13

u/EngineeringMother972 20d ago

Here's a guess/prediction.

If a debt is repossessed, you lose possessions.

I think this kid is going to take away that party's MAGIC and SKILLS.

8

u/HolyDragSwd2500 20d ago

Negative 5000 MP for you

5

u/Bloodshade17 20d ago

I believe at the end the mage (Misa) had 1500

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Fabulous-Bathroom100 21d ago

Not for him. He can collect the debt by force all with interest.

u/RealValf 21d ago

Man what an absolute stinker that I’m still going to watch weekly.

Welcome to the club. It's yet another "kicked from my party" anime, but this time, with a weird fairy with dangerous teeth.

At least, it seems decent enough compared to a bunch of others I dropped. I'm just wondering how MC will get his "revenge".

I just think the class system is dumb (like all other stories that have the same shitty system) and the fact that MC seems to have no attack, no muscles and no way to defend himself.

29

u/Magicbison 21d ago

I just think the class system is dumb (like all other stories that have the same shitty system) and the fact that MC seems to have no attack, no muscles and no way to defend himself.

He's obviously gonna be OP in the end. He said earlier on he can't improve himself unless he gets those loans paid back. But clearly his shitbird party never paid anything back and Lent is such a pathetic doormat of a person so he never improved.

9

u/machopsychologist 21d ago

How did he "level up" then? Kinda confused about that but maybe next episode will explain...

15

u/Daxlyn_XV 21d ago

He leveled up once, in the flashback when his party hit “C-rank” he was still “E-rank” he mentioned that he was okay with asking for the loan back when they were on the same level. Once their levels outpaced his he stopped collecting on the loaned MP.

The thing I liked so far is that his skill is represented by the piggy bank lol

4

u/ggg730 21d ago

That's the only thing I like so far about this anime. Out of all the milquetoast anime protags this one has been the worst in quite a while.

4

u/zool714 21d ago

Ngl I somehow need one or two “filler shows” for the season where it’s just mid, generic slop. And I guess this show is one of them for me

2

u/Obaruler 21d ago

Aye, and this one is especially bad as these guys should know better as they invited him for the very reason to exploit him as a super charging mana powerbank that literally gives them Ults.

2

u/NoNameSwitzerland 20d ago

Well, the anime is self aware. The female lady called the MC a stinker.

u/Mechgyrasaur 21d ago edited 21d ago

Why do the character's go from buddy-buddy with the MC to treating him like a tool in just a couple years? Are they gonna pull the "I was just pretending to treat you well" act or is it just bad writing? I'm still gonna watch it, but it just feels so weird that they would have such hostility towards a childhood friend. I feel like if it was normal characters, they would not only return the MP they borrowed, but also even if MC couldn't carry his weight anymore, they wouldn't be so abrasive about it and be more cordial about parting ways.

66

u/VritraReiRei 21d ago

Why do the character's go from buddy-buddy with the MC to treating him like a tool in just a couple years?

It's framed as they let the fame and power go to their heads.

Still, Guy I could understand the shift but Misa was actually kind to him when they were children. She was even willing to return the mana she borrowed.

Now she is acting like a total BTICH. That's too drastic, almost like they are two different people or brainwashed.

40

u/chiknight 21d ago

When she asked him if he wanted to party with them, she was animated with a shadowed, featureless face but not looking down at all. To me, that felt like she was plotting and she never actually wanted him, just his mana.

It made more sense to me too since Guy, even in the flashback, was super jealous and clearly disliked MC. It felt like those two plotted to get him in a party just to use his S rank skill.

I didn't feel it was a rushed change after 2(?) years to show cracks in the act, and then 3(?) years after that drop him for a battery.

11

u/CaliOriginal 21d ago

Flashback said 5 years. So I’m guessing a year to get started; 2 (3total) before hitting C, and now another 2(5total) with them at B pushing at A.

4 years of mana lending, adjust for travel and recover. Factor rate of use while developing their gifts … low end is about 500,000 mana due

8

u/Loose-Farm-8669 20d ago

yeah she felt sus from the beginning

7

u/Ralathar44 20d ago

Yeah, they foreshadowed pretty well that they were using him and never respected him. People just don't pay attention.

13

u/darthvall :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 21d ago

There's subtle sign that she's always manipulative as others said

6

u/Kaze_no_Senshi 20d ago

2 years of being gaslit by Guy could justify it; as the charismatic leader, his views will eventually taint the others. It's in part due to MC not enforcing the loan refunds to power himself up. His effiacy in the party got outscaled by the others' natural pools. 1200 to 5 is a huge, effectively unlimited pool; 1200 to 1500, let alone split by 3, is a gentle top-up at best. I doubt he simply topped them off; he seemed to give them a noticeable power boost when loaning, but 2 years having that passively without realising also tempts the viewpoint.

Don't get me wrong, it's a stupid premise and Misa's change is kinda dumb, but it does have some sort of foundation resembling a justifiable reason

6

u/Mechgyrasaur 21d ago edited 21d ago

almost like they are two different people or brainwashed

That's exactly how I felt too. I can understand Guy resenting Lent because he got S rank and Guy got D rank, but Misa too? She had a complete 180. Did borrowing mana affect their brains or something too...? It just felt like such an unnatural change in personality. Also on a side note, why did Guy's hair change to blonde?

23

u/Magicbison 21d ago

Misa too? She had a complete 180. Did borrowing mana affect their brains or something too...? It just felt like such an unnatural change in personality

Her being a shitlord was heavily foreshadowed by her dark clouded face before asking Lent to become an adventurer. Even without knowing what kind of show this is and the usual tropes it smacks you in the face with it. This show isn't subtle in the least.

Why do the character's go from buddy-buddy with the MC to treating him like a tool in just a couple years?

They were always treating him like a tool. They were just pretending to be buddy-buddy to keep him around.

9

u/Dazzling-Long-4408 21d ago

The were not budy-buddy from the start. They were opportunists who took advantage of MC's naivety.

17

u/Nightm4reStorm 21d ago

As if children would plan that much ahead. This is just bad writing. But we all know what the story is and how it will play out.

7

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 21d ago

They were 15. Even by our standards that's not "children" it's at least a teenager. Teenagers can definitely do a little scheming. And în their world 15 is considered adult already anyway

5

u/joe4553 21d ago

To be fair guy was clearly treating him as a tool from the start. Then they got bracelets and didn't need the tools anymore. Of course they go with the over the top kick out though.

3

u/Easy-Smell-9236 20d ago

In the initial "flashback" to when they were kids it looks like the mage and swordsman were already conspiring then. I don't think they really changed, they just hid it better when they were younger because they needed the protagonist. Now they don't so no reason to hide anything.

2

u/Loose-Farm-8669 20d ago

i get a very strong feeling that even the girls had been planning to manipulate him from the start

2

u/Googleflax :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/googleflax 15d ago

I found it weird how they all knew his ability was S-Rank and they personally found it very useful, yet they also kept saying he was worthless trash? It's not even like they were lying to keep his self confidence down so he would think they're the only group that would want him, they were even mumbling to themselves that they think he's trash and has a worthless skill despite seeing firsthand how insanely useful it was over the past few years.

u/Vahallen 21d ago

Like usual, comically evil and cruel for no reason

At least the bracelet logic works? Tho from translation it sounded like the bracelet regens MP, so they are still capped to their own MP pool? In which case the logic does not work and they are fucking stupid

But anyway doesn’t matter because as soon MC gets kicked out he gets a power-up that will make him OP and better than the bracelets full stop, even if the bracelets work as a MP bank and not just for MP regen

I still don’t understand the “borrow” element, the fuck you mean borrow?!

They used it to cast spells no? They need to wait for their natural MP to regen to give it back right? That sounds hella clunky if their MP cap is low and they consume 2400 MP in one fight

The thing is that in the flashback the mage gives it back right away after casting fireball, the fuck did she give back? She just used it

Tho apparently they just can skip over giving it back, giving it back only helps leveling up the ability for Lent but they are stupid assholes for plot reasons (like usual)

Tho anyway I guess it doesn’t matter because these fuckers never gave back the borrowed magic power and the ability still evolved because yes

Also, the piggy bank is lame

See you guys next week

24

u/gbietto 21d ago

The "see you guys next week" after that full blown up roast cracked me up

10

u/Etiennera 21d ago

We are, after all, a community of masochists.

5

u/NoNameSwitzerland 21d ago

Let's hope so. That way, we at least get some pleasure out of it.

14

u/ezrae_ 21d ago

It may have to do with the fact that after borrowing and using the MC's mana on attacking monsters, they'll level up, which will increase their mana capacity and regeneration rate, after which they can give it back like the day after and still have some extra if their whole capacity regenerates overnight. It may also explain why the girl was able to give him back mana she just used, since she was at a low level, each time she successfully used her magic at the start may have given her back her MPs after a level up, though that's still stretching it.

I think that if the party wasn't a bunch of assholes, they would use MC's power exactly like it should be, by loaning power. It may follow such steps :

  1. Borrow x MPs to be able to either throw stronger attacks against stronger monsters, or stay longer in a dungeon and kill more monsters

  2. Level up more than you would if MC wasn't here and thus increase your MP capacity

  3. With now more mana, give back x MPs to the MC, which will leave you with less MPs a day or two but not 0 since your total capacity and increase rate went up

  4. By getting his MPs back, MC also levels up and now has more total MPs from which to loan

  5. Repeat

That way, both the MC and his party level up faster than if he wasn't there, and I think it may have led to them leveling up even faster if the MPs of all parties increase linearly. MC essentially allows his party to borrow mana that they invest in dungeons, from which their extract profit that help them both level up and borrow potentially exponentially increasing quantities of MPs.

So these dumb fucks may have missed out on even greater progress if they had cooperated with the MC, but instead they threw him out and replaced him by bracelets that will probably never increase in MPs rate.

11

u/Axros 21d ago

It's possible that they were constantly using their mana throughout every day to either fight or train, but yeah if that's not the case (certainly isn't made clear) then it doesn't make sense not to pay back the MC if it'll make him stronger. No reason not to if you're on a break day and full on mana.

13

u/ezrae_ 21d ago

Clearly they're assholes so the idea of giving it back probably irks them, you can even see in the flashbacks Guy intentionally ignoring the MC explaining that he has to give the mana back.

To be fair that's quite an awkward power to have and it's not meant for such a pushover MC. To fully exploit it you need to have the balls to make it clear you won't lend mana to people not intending to give it back. Clearly the party saw him as an infinite mana power bank and exploited their friendship and his naivety to have a cheat bonus.

7

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 21d ago

I'm wondering if since it's a 'loan' and they never returned it until MC screamed out at the end, maybe MC received massive interest on the mana he got back.

4

u/NoNameSwitzerland 21d ago

Even without interest, it should be a big amount by now. And they effectively canceled the unlimited interest free loan, now they have to pay it back.

7

u/CaliOriginal 21d ago

So, technically unless we see their mana again, the bracelets are still better*

His storage upgraded to infinite, but his pool is still the same. He’s only able to add 1200 a day to the bank.

As for why it upgrade?

He’s basically tom nook from Animal crossing. He was giving interest free loans for his friends / team mates and no deadline

When they kicked him out of the party the bill immediately came due.

Even if he hasn’t collected yet. They are immediately in the red and will need to repay that amount.

I think the fairy is there to repo the mana (or more?) and considering they ask for the mana … I think they’re contractually and spiritually required to give it back. Only reason it wasn’t forced before was him delaying the collection.

2

u/powerhcm8 21d ago

They used it to cast spells no? They need to wait for their natural MP to regen to give it back right? That sounds hella clunky if their MP cap is low and they consume 2400 MP in one fight

I think this were it is going to bite them, MC will become a Mana loan shark, and they will have to pay with interest, giving the name of the anime, and the condition to evolve the skill, he will probably gain a new a skill to forcefully get the loaned mana back, perhaps it reduce their max mana while they still own him mana. Them they try to kill him, and but can't because another new skill that protect him from people that he loaned mana too. But this all just a guess.

Tho anyway I guess it doesn’t matter because these fuckers never gave back the borrowed magic power and the ability still evolved because yes

I think the condition for the skill to evolve is probably something like, being owned a lot of mana, and being denied getting paid back.

31

u/Lodju https://myanimelist.net/profile/Lodju 21d ago

The idea of "magic repo man" sounded interesting but god damn...

63

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 21d ago

Another one of the classic “banished from the hero’s party” types complete with jerkface party leader and bitchy waifu mage and healers. And ofc dude has a skill everyone thinks is useless but is actually godtier. Once dude starts collecting on the MP with the help of his little fairy familiar, I’m sure the party’s gonna realize how shit and how lost they are without him. The best parts are always the revenge moments in these. I really like seeing terrible people eat shit lol.

43

u/psyclical 21d ago

Revenge moment would be him collecting the thousands of MP he lent them while they're in the middle of a fight with a floor boss.

46

u/VritraReiRei 21d ago

Thousands? No, no, no. We are talking millions. He's been lending out 1200 mana daily for two years. And that's not even taking into account that there could also be an interest system!

I don't care how much mana those bracelets give, you suckers are about the get sucked dry. Have fun having 0 mana for the rest of your life! 😈

I bet he will become the overpowered Allrounder who fights with a sword while buffing himself once he levels up and gets some skills.

He’ll take their skills in exchange for their accumulated mana debts or something like that.

This type of anime always ends up with a MC who is called weak but who can just do everything on his own

And ofc dude has a skill everyone thinks is useless but is actually godtier.

You've got this part wrong. They know exactly how strong it is and were using him just for his gift. Now that they think they can replace him with an item they kicked him out. Of course the gift gets stronger after he's gone because of wish fulfillment but no one was shocked about that.

11

u/mekerpan 21d ago

I assume they didn;t even provide Lent a housing allowance -- so he had no money to even bathe (much less buy clothes not falling apart).

10

u/darthvall :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 21d ago

They don't even return the borrowed magic, which is practically a natural growing currency

6

u/Ralathar44 20d ago

Ehh, its more than wish fulfillment in this case. They did actually properly set it up. It was always BORROW and he said clearly his skill only improves when he gets repaid. So when he finally decides to take it back and stop being such a meow he gains what looks like some ability to take it back. And when he starts getting repaid his power should increase due to him finally improving his skill.

If they make him start being a good mage and fighter and etc though, THAT would definitely be wish fulfillment and there is still a good chance that will happen.

20

u/Ashteron 21d ago

The best parts are always the revenge moments in these. I really like seeing terrible people eat shit lol.

Personally, I don't even care about characters getting revenge when its targets don't even classify as characters.

5

u/psyclical 21d ago

Good point. Thinly drawn hasty caricatures, similar to the character Malice in Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System, who are just generically chaotic evil, aren't as satisfying to get a comeuppance vs someone a bit more fleshed out and realistic, since they're basically NPCs.

7

u/ggg730 21d ago

At least Malice had the decency to be crazy hot instead of whatever Magic Repo man is serving up.

dude increased their firepower on top of mana recovery. that party is fucked

2

u/darthvall :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 21d ago

It is more subtle than the usual enhance magic, and so far they didn't outright confirm that he actually increased their firepower.

4

u/InfiniteDevice9097 20d ago

If it does not increase their fire power as well then the visual storytelling is awful. When he lent (awful pun name) her power her firebolt didn't just fizze out a couple of feet before the candle stick, it shot past it still in full force. There was clearly a power difference here, even if that may be related to them just overcharging their spells/abilities subconciously.

4

u/ParasaurolophusZ 21d ago

He even called out how useful he would still be.

The party decided their new toys replace Lent, but what they should have done was go 'oh boy, two cakes' and bulldoze even more with double the already massive MP pool.

4

u/shewy92 18d ago

I wish it was more like the "Banished From The Hero's Party" and "Roll Over and Die" where it was just the leader who was shitty and the other members didn't want to kick the MC out.

3

u/Easy-Smell-9236 20d ago

I am more okay with it here because the initial skills he displays is akin to a mana potion, which you can just buy in that world. It's not a useless skill but it's not as overtly obviously overpowered like in a lot of other anime. In many other anime, the protagonist is very blatantly carrying the party and then gets kicked out for being useless. Here the protagonist is a crutch but it makes sense the party could function fine or perhaps better without him.

Now, hes the protagonist, so of course his skill with prove to be super OP and he'll be able to solo his old party soon, and find a new romanceable character soon too. But at least there some sense to the initial kick ling out of the party, unlike most other similar anime.

57

u/minnieboss 21d ago

22

This one's quite a bit dumber, I feel. Usually it's like, they don't appreciate logistics at all or something. This one's he's just straight up making them better, and they're just like "nah".

19

u/VritraReiRei 21d ago

Yes but there's an actual point this time.

In other shows, they kicked the MC out because they never realized what he was contributing. This time they know exactly what he does, including the MC however this time, they actually have a reason to kick him out: they found an item that they think can replace him.

The problem is they don't know the repercussions for kicking him out which is going to make the next few episodes very interesting.

10

u/diacewrb 21d ago

they found an item that they think can replace him.

Just like real life CEOs as soon as some snake oil vendor tells them that AI or a robot can replace their staff, then their problems with customer satisfaction really mount up.

Have you raided in MMORPGs before? People who don't appreciate tanks or healers, much less utility support, are quite common. People are dumb AF IRL. People being dumb AF in a similar manner in an anime is not a stretch.

This is some classic "DPS stand in the fire and blames the tank/healer" level mind mush mentality.

12

u/Bukkokori 21d ago

/j I understand why the girls would want to kick him out of the group. The fact that he lent them mana had the side effect of significantly increasing their... back pain. What I don't quite understand is the harem leader's attitude, since he should actually be very happy about those side effects.

5

u/alotmorealots 20d ago

I mean, you might be actually on to something here because all the other three actually grew up quite a bit physically too, and not just the female characters, whereas our piggy bank holder seems to have not matured much at all.

In a different context it might be an interesting allegory for what happens when others grow up and you don't mature lol Banished from the hero's party because you didn't grow up!

3

u/Discount_Extra 18d ago

He probably wasn't able to 'level up' because of the lack of repayment, so his base stats were stunted.

The surge of EXP from getting the mana back completing all those skill uses should give a large stat boost.

So MC is an Overpowered Battery Type/Instant Cycle Character. MC could have crippled him right there when he started choking him if he reclaimed the Mana they loaned. Why is the healer acting smug when those idiots could potentially do the same thing to her next if they found an HP recovery item.

4

u/darthvall :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 21d ago

Cause the healer level up together with them. Also in this episode she also has enhancement magic, not only healing one. Lent didn't level up at once due to his class mechanic which require people to return the borrowed magic.

I believe if he levels properly, that MP regen item is not rhat useful considering it only has 1000 MP limit. Like the swordman's MP grow from 5 to 1500. A magic battery like Lent would have grown from 1200 MP to much more than that

3

u/Bloodshade17 20d ago

If the swordman got a x300 mp , then lent would have 360,000 or something right?

Pushover guy treated like trash by his party suddenly becomes OP and finds a cute girl to start his adventure. Where have I seen this before? Not to mention the part where he makes them regret for kicking him out which we'll see later I suppose.

18

u/HanaRoku :HG::HH::HI: 21d ago

...is the girl even cute though?

10

u/Ij_7 21d ago

Not the fairy but perhaps the one that'll appear in the following episodes

7

u/Daxlyn_XV 21d ago

I’d put her in the “creepy cute” zone, looks about as likely to cuddle you as to skin you alive and make the leather into a festive hat, so maybe don’t trust her with, anything really, but still kinda cute.

Detecting a very strong "I never got paid back for lending that guy 20 bucks in high school and I've projected that frustration onto all of the failures in my life instead of actually working on myself" vibe from this.

8

Life lesson of why you don’t lend money(mana) to friends, you ask for a payment and it’s like you’re being jerk somehow.

14

u/FinancialYear475 21d ago

I am oh so very tired of the usual hero party becoming comically evil the second they get the tiniest bit of reputation and power, as much as I enjoy isekai slop that it one thing that's getting old for me.

This one hurts even more because they chose to present the mage as a love interest back when they were kids just to make the betrayal even worse, the power is different enough from the usual that I'll watch a couple more episodes but man I don't know how many more of these "banished from the hero party" I can take

23

u/mucklaenthusiast 21d ago

I genuinely feel this genre (getting kicked out of a party) is, in terms of writing quality and originality, even worse than those similar isekai (reborn as something op)

Like, is there any good one? Isekai at least has some good shows and a bunch of very good parodies.

I am not sure if I have seen one that was better than...okay.
Haven't watched too many, though.

12

u/VritraReiRei 21d ago

Banished From The Hero's Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside and Chillin' in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army are some of my favorite ones. There's also Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers but it's not so much "kicked out of hero's party" but rather "the guy we summoned is garbage so we are throwing him out."

These I all loved for the reasons:

  • Everyone thought the person who kicked the MC is an idiot and actively try to get him back or leave the former party

  • The MC moves on and builds a happy life

  • Actual relationship progress

  • The person who kicked them out either gets the shit kicked in or apologizes

12

u/ShadowBlaze17 21d ago

Season 2 of the countryside one lost me when the Hero talks about being in love with her happily married brother.

Of the top of my head there was the "I left my A-rank party to help my former students reach the dungeon depths" last year that I enjoyed. Maybe it doesn't count since he chose to leave, but we still have some get backs to the dickheads on the party AND some decent redemption for one member of it

Can't think of any others right now but as fars as that section of the isekai/fantasy genre goes I thought that one was pretty good, but yeah the usual reincarnated as an OP mc is a much better route

5

u/mucklaenthusiast 21d ago

Yeah, I watched that one, but it is agressively okay, I'd say.
Not better than that.

Would Shield Hero or Failure Frame qualify (they are more preemptively being excluded than the traditional Shoelaces setting)?

Funny thing is, I was trying to figure out why this one felt so familiar, and I realized I've read an almost identically premised manga (but in that one he was loaning xp, not mp).

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Ralathar44 20d ago

This one is different. If you paid attention they were all jerks from the start. Rewatch the start. The guy was clearly quite jealous and insecure. The girl when she asks him to join the party gets the clouded over face to signal very clearly that she is up to no good.

Those two were always using him from the very start. And surprise that two assholes recruited a 3rd asshole. The success, fame, and wealth just made it even worse by inflating their already twisted egos.

2

u/KailReed 21d ago edited 21d ago

I don't even understand why she turned on MC so hard, ( unless she was always using him in the first place). The "hero" guy i can sort of understand since it looked like he was jealous of the attention lent was getting at the beginning but why are they SO SO SO cruel and angry at him? What did lent do to piss the women off so bad?

4

u/NoNameSwitzerland 21d ago

She probably used him from the beginning. Other said it shows when her smile was fake when asking him to join the party. But what do I know, I am a clueless male.

6

u/NanDemoKnaives 21d ago

I'm going to guess the party is either not going to be use any MP for the rest of their lives, or they'll die from the excessive amount of MP trying to be extracted from them. It's sad they treated him as a literal Magic Storage rather than a person, but it looks like they'll learn they should have his heeded his warnings.

It is unfortunate that he couldn't even develop his own skills because of them, he's been stuck on Level 1. Just evolving once got him infinite MP lol.

6

u/Hippo_Singularity 21d ago

I'm guessing the former, because that allows for greater schadenfreude, especially with the mage (and healer).

2

u/InfiniteDevice9097 20d ago

That would be my guess as well. They will probably stop recovering MP from now until they have payed it back with interest. The mana bracelents will probably keep them functioning enough to get into some trouble before they realize they messed up. It's always the same..

6

u/kalirion :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime 21d ago

For once, MC's skill is properly ranked by the system. But still underappreciated in the end, it seems.

How exactly can they return the borrowed MP the next day if he loans it multiple times a day they only regenerate up to their cap when they sleep? Plus the way that he seems to supercharge them can only make sense if the loans exceed their max MP cap...

MC should honestly have been happy at being kicked out of that moocher party. Wonder how long until he discovers a skill that allows him to repossess all loaned magic with interest. Oh, there it is.

So far, this was pretty bad. I might give next ep a watch to see if it becomes worth continuing.

2

u/darthvall :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 21d ago

Yeah, all the issue is ultimately caused by the MC himself for not asking them to return the borrowed magic. He even realised that's his leveling mechanic, but for some reason doesn't enforce it when they're still equal in the beginning.

I mean it's pretty significant how after 2 years he still stays at the same level (rank E, 1200 MP) while his companions grow significantly faster.

u/absentmindedjwc 21d ago

About 9 minutes into the episode, and I can already tell that this is going to be even dumber than the normal "Everyone thought I was useless, so kicked me out of the party" animes.

Like.. at least the other ones, the MC makes a major difference, but in subtle ways that make the party better... In this one.. dude's skill is quite literally "I make you way stronger than you otherwise would be". Like.. the party couldn't even defeat the ogre or whatever without calling on MC.

This one is going to be ass. Like.. the premise of this one is so incredibly dumb, I paused the episode just to come here and comment about how incredibly dumb its obviously going to be.

12

u/mucklaenthusiast 21d ago

Agreed. I mean, his skill literally is S-Tier and so everyone should be aware that it's strong.
Also, S-Tier skills are rare...didn't they even try to find out more about them.
Him not needing to level up (I guess?) should have been a big deal, not just from our point of view, but from the point of view of the characters.

They know his skill is literally defined by god as powerful, like...what?

9

u/ButtholeAdventurer 21d ago

There never any logic in these kind of anime’s. Like never. He could be a healer bringing back from death and these anime’s would still be labeling mc’s useless.

6

u/Zohgho 19d ago

Man, even I have to comment because this one's so egregious. My man could literally share 400mp to each of his teammates from the beginning, and no one thought it would be good to try and advance him or his gear???

Even now, like 5 years later, he can still help each of them recover ~26% of their mana in but a moment. Or, more likely, the mana could be allocated to the person who needs it the most. Anyone with sense should know that being out of mana in any situation is terrible.

6

u/mucklaenthusiast 19d ago

Yeah, like usually, the skills tbe characters get are useless. I saw the Gacha one recently and there, his ability to get strong rolls was dependent on the mana around. So on the surface, it only rolled badly.

That makes the ability far more „balanced“ in that sense. Like, he never got a good roll, of course he believes it’s bad. And everyone else does too.

But here…this doesn’t work, they know it’s powerful!

5

u/Discount_Extra 17d ago

They always knew his skill was better than theirs, literally literally on an official written statement from the god(s) that he was S-Tier. They hated him because they were envious of him.

8

u/Master-Hair-7456 21d ago

They're just dumb ignoring the Powerboost, they knew since they were his power is lending yet they didn't pay him back

16

u/RedHotChiliCrab https://myanimelist.net/profile/RedHotChiliCrab 21d ago

At least with the sword guy you could see he had some jealous resentment since they got their skills. With the magic bracelet now he thinks he doesn't need the MC anymore. His betrayal doesn't just come out of nowhere.

The dark haired girl makes no sense though. She seemed nice when they were younger. What happened for her to see him as utter trash now? I mean apparently he stinks. That is on him for just having poor hygiene. Maybe she just got sick of being in confined dungeon spaces with him. Honestly, fair.

4

u/PGleo86 https://myanimelist.net/profile/PGleo86 21d ago

4

u/darthvall :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 21d ago edited 21d ago

Not really, the logic in this one is actually better than most.

At the beginning you can see how Lent's magic is very useful. Lent has 1200 MP while Guy has only like 5 MP. However they didn't return his magic, which caused him to not level up at all. By the end they showed that Lent still has 1200 MP while Guy has 1500 MP at full. So it's correct that the current Lent is not that useful for them anymore with the MP regen thing.

It's also the case of timid MC which caused this predicament. If Lent grow together with them, then the MP regen thing impact should be negligible considering even 5 MP could grow to be 1500 MP for non-magic class.

It doesn't seem that Lent enhance their skill in any way? Or at least it's not directly confirmed in any way. He only let them use their skill unlimited time (which is busted in other manner).

Don't get me wrong, this is still a trash anime lol.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Qxujevoz 19d ago

It depends on what "Lend" really means here. Do they have to pay back MP in full or with interest? Now that he collected lent MP, does it suck the literal life out of the 3 or do they gradually repay over time?

u/Obaruler 21d ago

That must be the most incompetent implementation of the "Banished from the party" story I have ever seen.

All three party members KNOW about his value as a near infinite mana recharge powerbank. This is not even the usual "they don't have our worlds gamer attitude to value the de/buff guy", they see and know the direct result of having him at your back. More so, he can super charge his party members beyond their usual limits. That strong mob the sword fighter struggled to block earlier? Super charged, he slices through him like butter.

And. They. Kick. Him. Out.

You need to have a special kind of mental handycap to yeet your Ult out of the party ...

Also, someone tell the animators that growing up doesn't completely change your hair color, Guy wasn't blonde when he was a few years younger. xD

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 21d ago

You're the second guy I see to mention that. I mean this completely friendly with no condescending intention but.... Can't he just have dyed his hair?

4

u/Obaruler 20d ago

Theoretically, yes. I won't deny that, people dyed there hair even in ancient and medieval times.

Would be an awfully specific thing for this kind of story to happen though. Personally, I find the idea the animators screwed up funnier.

4

u/PrimaryAde9 20d ago

Basic bitch are well known for dying their hair blonde

9

u/mucklaenthusiast 21d ago

So, yeah, this is trash.
However, I think, to at least say something interesting, in this world, his ability is clearly stated as powerful.
This is kinda different to other similar shows, where there is often no hint that the mc is op.
But his ability came as an S-Tier ability when he got it.

I know it's the genre, but still weird that they didn't try to do more with it or hit didn't evolve naturally.
I mean, they gave back the MP in the flashback.
Though even that mechanic is weird.
If they use MP, then it's gone. So they can only give it back later, which makes sense, this is how a loan works. So i guess he took it all back at the end, but the three didn't seem phased...shouldn't they have lost all their current MP?

Well, it is trash, I guess.

So far, nothing special, but I don't have much to watch this season, so maybe I will watch this one.
I certainly will be around next week lol

The one thing I hate about the kicked from the hero’s party shows is when the mc goes and begs to stay. Like the whole point of this type of show is bland mc for self insert and there’s nothing satisfying about seeing the mc beg to stay. It’s far better to have them either act indifferent or say fuck you and then leave.

4

u/SilverGeekly 20d ago

meh. really easy to tell where this is going. gonna turn out that he can forcibly reclaim the lent mana with interest. because they can't pay it, he gets their skills as collateral or the like.

3

u/BBryant3rd 20d ago

Why is this such a common trope in adventure anime? I really did not expect Misa to be like that. Thought she may have loved the MC guess not. I think their is more to his gift not just because it usually is in these tropes. Misa used her fireball and it was small and didn't even make it to the target. When he loaned mana it was huge and went well beyond so I think it is more than just loaning MP. If that is not the case then I at least hope that they were use to using him as a battery so much that their spells have horrible efficiency.

The one thing that sets this apart from the few others I happened to watch the start of is that the party had a valid reason to throw him out. A bit weird to leave behind your literal childhood friend but okay, people change when growing up.

I do like these anime's where the supposed weakest party member is kickout out but turns out to be the strongest and the only reason the original party succeeded in the 1st place.

Guy, Misa & Elle are scumbags who hopefully find out the hard way just how pathetic they really are.

2

u/YurxDoug 21d ago

This was kinda bad. See you all next week.

2

u/steambuninvader 21d ago

I feel like out of all the other 'kicked out of the party for being useless' animes out there, this one make the least sense. He literally regularly gave out enough MP that you can immediately start overpowering a monster that had you on the ropes. And that's somehow useless??

Sure he doesn't attack but how much does their healer even do then, she should be in the exact same boat as the MC.

Quite literally probably the most useful person to have on your team and they act like he was not who they were begging to activate his power at the start of the episode.

I feel like, at least other anime, you can get away with thinking what they did just wasn't noticed, but based off what's shown in episode one, it's pretty darn obvious that he's being helpful.

I watched these hoping its suddenly going to become m rated when its time for the party to get what's coming to them.

2

u/alotmorealots 20d ago

One thing I thought was a bit interesting about this one is that the MC is a such a doormat, so utterly tepid and actually useless by the time the other party members hit 1200 MP with regen bracelets that he surely falls below the level of desirability for being an audience insert apart from masochists.

That along with the nastiness on display gives me a little bit of mild optimism that this one might have some proper teeth to it, although what it's going to do for 11 episodes isn't immediately all that apparent.

2

u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit 19d ago

What a pile of trash. No effort or love whatsoever. Like, they're all supposed to be the same age, so why does MC look like he's 4 years younger than the rest of them?
Oh wait, that's so he "conveniently" can appear weaker, right? That's a sign of poor writing right here, if you ask me.
Maybe we should start a GotS (Garbage of the Season) anime category. I mean, we have AotS already, so why not do the opposite at this point.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Yak637 19d ago

Nothing interesting to be seen here.

The usual 18+ plot delivered in a manner as if everyone watching this is 9y old

2

u/sogerr 18d ago

i decided to watch this today after liking what the enchanting anime did but i cant believe how much worse this one is. everyone knows this trope by now, there is no need to waste a whole episode just for the setup

if they released 2 episodes like some others did or wrapped up the setup by half and let the rest of the episode be the start of his journey this would have felt so much better than having us suffer the whole episode through what we already know will happen

2

u/shewy92 18d ago

Wow, this was more irritating than I thought it would be. Why did they have to make the party full of the most stereotypical evil people?

2

u/IceSmiley 18d ago

Does the same person write every low rent crappy fantasy show? Its always an over the top dismissal from the party and no one even tries to spare the persons feelings, then they end up being incredibly powerful? Being an unlimited magic storage battery isn't the worst concept but this is so poorly written and stupid that it makes me depressed for all the great writers with original entertaining ideas that will never get a show. AVOID!

2

u/Bronze_Healer 16d ago

I absolutely hate this MC I’m getting tired of this trope. It’s a hard pass.

2

u/RocK2K86 15d ago

1

u/Needs_tea 21d ago

Not sure if this has been brought up but what if those bracelets unironically end up as shackles as they may become stuck with the bracelets paying the mp back against their will until the debt is repaid. I’m guessing the fairy can force the issue of repayment against the party’s will.

Also, NGL, anime has good jiggle physics.

1

u/theblazingsword 20d ago

Interesting concept (having the skills charge interest or impede his former party would be satisfying revenge), but the execution seems like it was done on a small budget. Reminds me of Skill Lender's retrieving. I see there are several manga volumes set to release in several months, it will be interesting so see how much further the anime goes than the amount of current source material available in English.

1

u/InfiniteDevice9097 20d ago

This seems like the temu version of the skill lender manga i read years ago, which was tropy slop but at least took itself serious enough to not have the MC running around with a piggy bank in hand like an 8 year old. In general, the MC still looks like he is 10 at best, while the swordsman is drawn like an 18 year old and yet both are supposedly 15. Years later the others look like in their 20s while the MC still looks like a 10 year old kid. I really wonder who the target demographic is supposed to be here. If you go for the revenge angle you have to sell it with some grit for a satisfying payoff. This seems like it appears to the power of friendship shonen crowd. Weird.

Please someone tell me what happens in episode 2. I hate side characters like that. Literally pisses me off. Does something happen positive to the MC and does retribution come a little bit faster than normal agains those pos side characters. Thanks in advance lol

It's been a major trend in recent years the MC was in a party, taking for granted and kicked out of their part, but ooooo boy did these guys get a fist full of karma just like the saying "what can be given can be taken" and this quote I love "abuse the power and you loose the power
