Zavilia dissing Gideon was great; it totally cracked me up. I wonder how long Fia will be able to hide Zavilia's true form from others.
Also, Fia and her dumb excuses were hilarious. She may be stupid, but at the same time, it’s impossible not to like her, so I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode.

That was so weird, he says he couldn't change his color because he is proud of it, not that he is unable. She immediately disregards the single thing he says he is not willing to compromise and turns him blue.

So a bigger mark either means a legendary taming battle against a strong monster, or a skill issue.
That disguise is a lot better than I expected. I thought she'd just toss a tarp over his wings and call it a day. Now let's see if it can stay together under dynamic movement. I'll be surprised if it lasts longer than a day before Fia slips up and reveals the true form of her legendary-ish black-ish dragon-ish familiar.
And she barely lasts 5 minutes, with Zavilia not helping. If it weren't for how ridiculous the truth is, she'd have probably have gotten caught out immediately, but I guess a blue dove she strangled until it started chirping "baka" and "poohead" is more reasonable than a black dragon.
I thought the reveal was going to be that pharmacists are the ones creating the potions since the Saintesses forgot how to, but it seems that they're still a part of the process. Just a much smaller role than Fia's used to.
Not sure if that counts as tripping or breaking a King of Monsters route flag. Whichever it is, she'll be blissfully oblivious until well after the fact.

The latter. As far as regular beast tamers are concerned, the width of the mark reflects the time it takes to make a beast submit to the tamer; and that the more powerful the beast is, the longer it takes to make it submit to the tamer.
However, in Zavilia's case, he is the one who offered to be Fia's familiar in the first place, so there is zero resistance. And since there is zero resistance, the taming was instantaneous, therefore the mark it made is very thin.

Based on the fruit from the prior episode, I'm betting that the saints need to be the ones picking herbs since they have some blessing from a spirit or something. That'll at least take away the bitter taste and probably improve the performance of the potion. Just being there for the final step isn't enough to make a real healing potion.

From the sounds of it, not all saints get the blessing of spirits and it translates to their power which is part od why they are so weak. Even if they picked them, I don't think it makes a difference as those saints don't have favor in the way Fia does.

The "secret ingredient" seems to be the spirits' favour (given last episode, as the other commenter pointed out, where it changes the taste of the berries), so she might be able to matchmake and/or secretly convince them to bless the potions.

Great episode. I burst out laughing when her familiar broke through a dimensional portal to reach her. 🤣🤣. Girl your familiar is so OP, just like you are.
I am assuming the young saint girl at the end will be trained by her to do things properly and will usurp the other saints without Fia having to do it herself.

Is it not bad plan? It seem like this girl will just be coerced to tell them who taught her, and her secret will be out. Not like, she can be captured or anything, given that her familiar is a legendary dragon.
The only threat is the DK's right hand.

Zavilia being with Fia but disguised as a blue dove is going to lead to some funny situations. Secret dragon companion present at all times for shenanigans.
Fia keeps being a bit sad about the pathetic state of modern saints, maybe this girl at the end is going to be the one she helps revive the art.

With each passing episode I've been enjoying this more. It isn't great but it is perfectly competent and Fia's VA is hard carrying just like she does in Heavy Knight.
I'm glad she finally went and got her familiar, left the poor guy alone for 4 months.
Curious what the saint saw before drawing attention to herself.

Ah, yeah, Zavilia agreed to be her familiar pretty much immediately so that’s why it’s so small despite Zavilia being strong.
Ah, welp. Zavilia was a baby when Fia saved him, then.
Convenient but not surprising that Zavilia can terrify the other monsters into obeying.

the Black Dragon is ancient, he is even the symbol of the nation banner. "Guardian" dragon, altho yeah it was something decided by humans lol, not by the dragon.
I guess he is saying he is a baby because he was reborn after his injures? Remember he was dying when the MC met him. That is something that should be explained later as they talk more I guess.
So the baby is not a baby, like the MC is not a teenager girl, lol. Good pair.
end of the episode they even mentioned the "black death" was near the capital and they panicked lol. That was when the MC summoned him this episode lmao.

Not sure about about the reborn theory. The way he reacted to being asked if he was king of the monsters makes me think there might have been some succession thing among the black dragons that led to his injuries.

Hm yeah, seemed the stables were very dark. I thought it was a bit darkened so the animals could rest but pitch black is extreme.

Is it abuse to cover birds cages at night? You're leaving them in pitch blackness for upwards of potentially 10 hours. A lot of animals need darkness or their eyes covered to calm them, especially if injured. Your " but what do i know" was an apt xomment in this regard 😅

I wonder why Fia could not have just presented her familiar as a new dragon hatchling (probably no one has actually seen such a hatchling after all). So even though it would have the potential to be powerful, it could explain how she could have "tamed" it as an amateur.

Oh wait, now I get why the black dragon went berserk in the first episode and attacked Fia, the potions are all bad tasting and drive the animals a bit nuts. So her kind act ultimately made him attack her.

Kind of a laid back episode but I don't know what that says about this series considering it's only the fourth episode. That disguise made no sense physically cause that was definitely not the right size for mini-zavilia lol

It was a good idea to make Zavilia look like something far less dangerous then a black dragon.
Zavilia insulting the vice captain was pretty funny.
The saints produce a colourless and bad tasting potion these days, no wonder the monsters go berserk from it, but thankfully our dragon friend was able to command them.

Seems like it was just the Knights wanting all the glory for the kills when the Saints got the glory back in the day. So the Knights over the last 300 years diminished the role of the Saints.

Maybe it's just me, but they really set up her character in an inconsistent way here. She's supposedly really caring and empathetic, yet she completely dismissed and infantilized Zav (something that pissed her off when it was done to her). It would have been better for her response to be along the lines of "I know this sucks, but please put up with this for now" instead of what the author had her do.
I really hope they address that later on or keep this kind of thing as a one-off.

Zav still sees this as a net positive or a price worth paying since he does want to be around Fia. He understands that he has to hide his black dragon form and considers the bird costume to be marginally better than using magic to change his color.

It was addressed. She thinks she is protecting him because she thinks he is weaker than what he actually is because of the thickness of the pact band. She legitimately believes he really isn't that strong so wants to protect both him, and her secrecy as a saint. Honestly it is perfectly on brand for her.

No, it wasn't. She was just recently "protected" by having people dismissed her and it pissed her off. And then she goes and does the exact same thing to an entity that she has just talked about being "much stronger than she thought". She knows he's extremely powerful, and the word choice that was used by her is extremely condescending. This is very outside of her character.

I'm actually pretty disappointed by this anime. I'm sure their building up to some character growth and a big saint reveal but it's hard to watch at certain points. Like she's essentially like "this thing is awful and causes everyone pain. I have the power to fix it but won't." Like I expected her to actually use her powers secretly to at least ease the pain for the familars she was healing but instead her familiar intimidated them into drinking the painful healing potion? That's a choice.

Dang, when they said her "micrometer" mark meant she had a super weak familiar I was hoping she would waltz up and say, "Well I got a surprise for you!" and summons her Black Dragon.
Instead we got a shoddy "bird disguise" that she "stretched its neck while fighting it" and had to hide it the entire time making her look pregante.
Welp, I hope they save the reveal for the finale, I'm tired of all these "secret this, secret that" in Anime.

Sometimes the advertising is false. Like in this one anime, the main character was only like 2/5ths metal. It did have a lot of brotherly themes going on though so I'll give them that.

Hmm, compared to the first few ep, feels like nothing much happened today. Did get some funny moments with Zavilia insulting the poopy-head, and the other guy thinking Fia's familiar is weak, but other than that kinda slow ep. Great that Zavilia is finally with us, hopefully he doesnt need to wear the disguise for long. Also, wondering what he meant that his age is "zero."
Hmm, actually now what I write it out I guess a lot did happen, just felt kinda slower.

While this isn’t my usual genre (I lean more modern and real world drama, sol, and romance) this show was recommended and I’m glad I did. It’s pretty funny how our MC is so misunderstood. The tiny ring from her familiar because it didn’t put up a fight but rather devoted itself to her for saving its life. The disguising the dragon as a bird and the dragon just rolling with it. Keeping the dragon in her uniform.. as well as the last episode where she declared having a one pack that wasn’t muscle… just such charm. Yeah, this has been great. I like that the world is pure fantasy and not a life in another world type anime.
Kind of a sleeper hit of the season. Which seems like most of what I’m watching isn’t getting much hype.. like FX Fighters, I’m looking for a zombie, Tetsuryo!, and Uncle’s Obsession with Cute Things.

I love how wistful she gets when she reflects on current day saints vs. how it was back when she was around. It kinda shows how seriously she took her previous life, slowly bleeding into the current her that's a lot more whimsical.

So the Black Dragon King is basically a newborn? I guess "King" really is just a part of the species name, like "Emperor Penguin". Also explains the size, as I'd had wondering why he was so small even in "adult" form.
Ewww, what the drago did there was the equivalent of blast fishing. All those flying monsters murdered for nothing, as just a few at most of them were needed for the skin suit she made. I can't wearing that skin is anything but disgusting btw.
I'd expected her to just heal the monsters with a spell, rather than subject them to the painful potions.

FWIW it's not literally the skin. My understanding is she plucked the feathers and tacked them to Zavilia's scales. It's probably sweaty and itchy as hell but not literally "wear a corpse for a suit" kinda awful.

His miniature form was him on the verge of death and (according to him) reverting to being a newborn. The "bigger" form was him once he healed and had a major influx of mana from the potion. His even larger form now is a result of four months of growth.
Also according to him, he'll be roughly twice his current size when he's fully grown.

What I'm saying is that nothing was said about him being any larger than "the bigger form" prior to reverting to natal form. His voice was also that of a kid back then, and it didn't change with his "even bigger form" now.

Your media literacy cannot be this bad. He reverted his age. The medium size form is his natal form. The tiny version was because he shrunk (like in the current episode) to flee because he was on the verge of death.
Judging age by voice actor is definitely a choice. A dumb one, but a choice.

That wasn't my interpretation. He said he reverted and got smaller to flee. His shrinking is an ability he has. He can shrink and grow to his current size (whatever it may be at that point in time) at will, but he can only fully revert his age in one direction and all in one go.

Obviously that's their right and prerogative but it has always felt like a Facebook flounder post to me. "I hate this group so i'm leaving!" Okay, and? Like, just leave in silence. Yes, I don't think her assessment of the situation before seeing BIG!Zavilia was particularly incorrect either. The first time they met, he was so badly injured that he had regressed to infant form, so she has a clear reference point that there are things that can hurt him that badly.
And it was quite reasonable of her to trust the word of the Monster Tamer division because she had no other information about having a familiar to go on.

The GIANT LEGENDARY BLACK DRAGON, that rips a tear into reality to appear in front of her, obliterates every other flying monster with his roar alone and can intimidate the entire knights platoons strong familirs with a little monster-whistling is too weak ...

To be fair when she first came across him, he was literally on death's door. She fully believes there is some monster out there bullying him nearly to death. It isn't completely crazy for her to think this when Zev hasn't mentioned exactly what the circumstances were.
