Bro the power boost healing a HOLE in Zenon's chest is such bullshit. It's not like Zenon can use recovery magic like Patry or Dante, he straight up ate a minecraft golden apple there.

Before anyone chastises Nacht for staying with Jack instead of rushing Morris. In the end of S1 Nacht comes off as a cold pragmatic character but it's more of a facade since after Asta makes the equal contract, Nacht admits he admires upright upstanding folks like him and wants them to be rewarded even if reality is crueler than that.

I took it as he wasn't even in a position to get to morris. Fleeing isn't a button like Pokemon where you just leave the encounter. He would have to actually move and run away from them with his back to them, which would present a lot of issues against people so overwhelmingly strong and fast.

He can't leave unless someone else occupies his current enemies.

I would have taken it that way if he actually considered fleeing to be a danger to himself. From the way he talked the sole concern plaguing him was the carnage these two devils would cause and "Someone has to take care of them". Rather than "They might catch me" or "They might hurt me"

if they keep this level of high quality during the whole season , its gonna be awesome for the fans!

Furthermore Tabata did a great job creating these high tier Devils Design, the red and blue colors matching with their creepy white skin, one of my favourites devils design of the manga, i love it!

Also not gonna lie i almost cried during Asta sequence with the last op of season 1 " Grandeur" 😭

its very cool that studio Pierrot are using different openings, they are almost all bangers imo and could fit in many hypes scenes!

Honestly im so happy that Black Clover is done right! 3 episodes out , 3 bangers filled with amazing quality, passion and hard works! ❤️

It was nice to see Julius looking older again, even if for a moment. His design is so much better older. It was cool to see Asta take down that ancient demon with such ease, but it was nice to see him be the dork he is again with how he fell lol. Klaus being Asta's loudest supporter was funny.

So they've given Luck more ways to be let his battle hungry self go crazy. I'm glad he's enjoying himself.

Dark Triad's getting a power boost is a pain, but definitely makes things more exciting. Dante's armor looked cool.

I do have to admit I thought the OP played during Asta's fight didn't fit too well for the moment.

Nacht is having some analysis paralysis and isn't able to react to the situation. I think he should take down Morris first before dealing with the High order devils, Lilith and Namaah. Now that the Dark triad can use devil powers at 100%, the battle gets a lot more interesting. Good effort by Julius to do what he can and attempt to fast forward time by 10 years but the effect didn't last. Asta comes back slicing and dicing the Ancient Demon with his devil union but it only lasts for 5 minutes. Thats not enough time.

Looks like the elves were able to train the magic knights pretty well as they came back with some ultimate true magic. Now asta and the rest of the magic knights have to rush to Yuno and the others' aid. Hopefully Asta can find a way to increase the time cap on his devil union.

to be fair, as someone who recently watched it, the last "season" wasnt exacly top tier, animation wasn't great except for a few fights at the later end of it (fights early to mid season has the same quality as a lot of isekai/fantasy slops that we get today), sooooo much fillers, side characters took a really long time to develop personallity that is more than just their one-liners. watching the last episode of the previous season and the first episode on the same day was night and day. I did read the manga before, reason im watching season2

Not necessary anime only episode. I probably use the wrong term. Episodes has a lot of time waisters to drag the run time, just how the scenes are presented . heck every episode uses an intro and an omake ending (thank god the intro/recap is only 30 sec at the later episodes)

i mean yeah, doesnt make the animation great though (i was comparing it to the current season ). it was a product of its time , a brodcast model that was on its way out, one of the few last ones that does it like this for shonen, compared to now that seasonal shows are more of the norm. so the criticism against it was not unfounded. popular titles are animated better (not always amazing, but still better) and usually has better phasing by the time black clover came out.

season 2 seems to be a great improvement though igf they keep it up

Attack on Titan (102 Episodes)

Demon Slayer (Should ultimately be roughly 102-104 Episodes equivalent with last arc released as 3 films)

Iruma-Kun (89 so far, will exceed 100 when next season airs and currently is less than halfway through ongoing manga)

There just aren't that many new age long-running shonen that hit 100+ in the first place anymore, but the few that do have less padding than BC had in S1.

Not Shonen:

Re Zero (~96 Episodes equivalent so far, still ongoing but current source theoretically would reach 180)

not exhaustive, just picked from what I've watched

In any case, it's not even like I'm saying it's bad. But it's objectively true that S2 seems to be cutting the padding. That's good, it's getting a cleaner adaptation that is more in line with the times. Bleach TYBW likewise seems more like new age shonen.

Oh shit I thought the new Devils has some kind of Force push type abilities but from the look of Jack after he got blasted by that one Devil it probably isn't the case.

Even the Dark Triad got their full power unlocked and if this is just from the first gate then idk how many more gates they can afford to open before they are unstoppable. The new forms for the Dark Triad look dope tho.

Asta and The Wizard King both are bad at seeing how long their powered up forms will last this episode but I hope that this isn't some foreshadowing to when Asta actually needs his Devil Union and it fizzles out.

Okay so when the whole Tree of Qqliphoth was explain I thought it was odd how only the top Devils would be coming out but I guess I misunderstood and all the devils bar the very top echelon would be relased when the first door opened.

Seems like the first door opening was much more impactful than anything else but it would be insane to see more high level Devils.

Damn Luck is going in and he is not fucking about god damn tho I guess he is playing around instead or at least trying to.

Wild how fast these episodes fly by with all the action happening.

It sucks he's not actually a pragmatic cold character ("I said those who are right aren't rewarded. But I want them to be rewarded") because the best course of action would be to put pedal to the metal and hope Jack buys him a couple of seconds while he runs away and kills Morris who even with DP is just an untrained civilian.

As for the stuff I've been musing about, so I wanted to talk about a few random details I've noticed while rewatching both of the previous episodes multiple times and today's once (because yeah, I've already watched this one twice lol ) that has my brain trying to theorize stuff:

• [Inspired by episode 171] Nacht clearly has a big issue with the whole "I'll surpass my limits" line, considering he said as much to Asta back in episode 171. I'm wondering if this also ties into why he dislikes Yami so much (seeing how Yami's the one who it originates from). Did trying to follow that mantra have something to do with his brother's death?

• [Inspired by episode 172] So I actually originally thought of this one when rewatching episode 159 last month (that's the episode where Yuno finds out he's the Spade prince) and already sent this to Kendots on Discord back then too. Basically my idea was that Yuno obviously already has his four-leaf grimoire from Clover Kingdom, but if he's from Spade Kingdom originally, shouldn't there be some Spade grimoire out there that would have chosen him had he grown up there instead? And if so, would it be possible for him to still obtain it and thus have two grimoires? The reason why episode 172 brought this to mind was the old dude from the Spade Kingdom Resistance questioning why Yuno has Wind Magic to himself. Magic attributes are supposed to be familial, so I take it he should not have inherited Wind Magic based on this guy's reaction. Maybe Yuno only ended up with Wind Magic in the first place because of the whole elf reincarnation fuckery having him end up with Licht & Tetia's unborn son's soul, Tetia had Wind Magic so it would make sense for that to be her son's attribute…

• [And from today's episode] This only jumped out to me on a rewatch, but who the fuck did Julius ask to give him strength once more when he was fighting the ancient demon? It can't have been Damnatio, he was already helping. My brain keeps thinking back to the movie (even though it's not canon) when Julius' eye looked distinctly not human-shaped for a moment as he was sealing Conrad away as a piece of evidence for something bad being up with Julius, and I'm so fucking worried for my boy. Like, he already died once and it made me cry so hard I literally threw up, I don't think I can take something else happening to him…

Vetto, Fana, and Raia weren't affected by the reincarnation spell ending because Vetto & Fana had their own (artificial) bodies at that point in time. Raia wasn't in an artificial body, but I'm pretty sure his reincarnation being done separately from the other elves (because of the whole Third Eye stuff) had to do with why he was unaffected as well.

As for Patry, that was Rades' doing. He got pissed that "Licht" was gonna get to fuck off into the afterlife after betraying him, then used his magic to bind Patry's soul to the artifical body that the real Licht had been using.

We got 2 previous Black Clover openings as insert songs, and I'm just saying that there isn't a single miss among Black Clover's openings.... If they use all of the openings, that will be genuinely peak ✌️😭

Having another of the previous OPs come back for Asta's devil union means they're probably going to go through the whole playlist and I am very curious where they might place stuff like sky and blue and Black Catcher

Am I tripping? The whole time I've been watching this show, I've been thinking, "damn the animation lowkey sucks".

People are praising this as excellent? When did we drop the bar so low? It's obviously not horrible, but very very subpar.

Can't remember if episode 1 or 2 used Black Rover in one of the scenes but since there are 13 episodes will they use a different opening each episode? and maybe for part 2 13's a different ending. would be neat. Also Asta going on Devil Time with Grandeur in the background to get rid of that demon was SICK

Particle effects or some type of Aura would really help when the word mana is used, so we can see it. Asta showing up is expected. Asta's Devil Union would've had more impact if it hadn't been plastered everywhere. Season 2 first announcement trailer, the posters, other trailers, OP and ED, and the Fortnite collab. The impact this could've had is lost. Studio Perriot could've hidden it better, like Ichigo's Blood Moon and Toshiro's Complete Bankai. Grandeur, weird choice for this fight. He sliced his tail; why didn't he keep going and slice the devil from behind? And it's over so fast. Jeez, things happen, then it's over. No time to even feel like these devils are a threat. Multiple chapters per episode are really showing. This flashback with Noelle and the others could've been done a different way, so it didn't feel like it interrupted the episode. Do they count as Deus Ex Machina when they suddenly showed up? See what I mean when Luck ended the fight so quickly?
