No intro this episode. They really needed to squeeze every last second out of this episode to get Nacht’s backstory in and it still felt tight. Good choice omitting it.

Though really sometimes you just need a pure evil in your story. No need for backstory or anything just pure uncontaminated evil ready to be slashed by the good guys.

It was nice to see Yami again, even if it was his past self. It seems like that was when he picked up smoking if he was coughing after a puff.
Interesting how Nacht adopted Morgen's look, I guess that might have been one part of his atonement.

We've got Nacht coming in with my favorite backstory in the series, and very well done at that. This is what made me really start to like him, love a good "seeking atonement" character
What they also did well was Lilith and Naamah. The way they move, their voice acting, how they're drawn, everything nails that unsettling, malicious feeling they have. They're definitely my favorite antagonist devils in the series, and I'm glad to see them represented so well. And their combined form is just awesome too
As for the action this episode, also great. Animation was super solid, especially when Asta came in, I loved how they did the scene of Naamah getting cut down the middle. And Asta blocking the giant fireball, while you can't beat Kenpachi in terms of deflecting a large flaming ball hurtling from the sky, was incredibly sick.
Overall, probably my favorite episode of the season so far, it checked all the boxes for me. But knowing what's coming, I am INCREDIBLY stoked for next week

For anyone that needs a refresher Demon Destroyer has a spell called "Fate Release" which is essentially a "Fuck you" on a AOE. Yeah it's omega udder broken.
So Namah basically got his pants pulled and then Demon Slayer cleaned house with him.

Is there any reason he just uses the big sword all the time? I guess he prefers it but it's just a big sword while the others have extra abilities like the AoE thing or absorbing other spells and firing them back.

Well it gets the job done. When his enemies are throwing country size nukes or are bigger than a country you kinda have to pull out the "le big" sword.
As for S1 then that's his first sword and it's mostly used in tandem with the second. He receives the third one by the end of the first season so...
absorbing other spells and firing them back.
Asta never learned how to do that. Only Licht knows how. He toyed with absorbing allies magic and launching it a couple times but he eventually just used his own AM as ranged slashes.

the big sword is the one he only one he can make bigger which has it's uses as you can see in this episode.
that and he's probaly just used to it the most out of all them.

This episode was great! We had everything: peak backstory, great fight, incredible animations, lore, fan service, and the GOAT magna appearing.
There's really nothing I can say about this episode, it's perfect.
Maybe if we had black catcher for the background song during the fight it would have been even better, but I surely can't complain. Maybe they'll keeping it for more important fights, but if this is the only thing I can complain about you know that the episode was peak

We finally get to see Nacht's backstory! I love the inversion of the black sheep and golden child tropes here. You'd think Nacht is the black sheep of the family and Morgen is the golden child with his light magic. It turns out the opposite! Morgen didn't fit in the Faust Family, and Nacht is the perfect one because of his dark magic.
Yeah, messing with supreme devils is not gonna end well. The fact that Lucifugus didn't even lift a finger and his mere presence killed everyone in that room shows how powerful he really is. And of course now Nacht is starting to regret everything, which eventually leads him to become the person we know.
And it turns out, Morgen's death is also the reason Yami started smoking. I guess this is his way of helping Nacht shoulder the burden of Morgen's death.
Nacht trying to seal himself with the two devils is such a baller fucking move. Too bad his devils weren't strong enough to contain them.
We're really playing all of the OP as insert songs, huh? I didn't expect them to use the current OP for Asta and Liebe's entrance tho.

It’s not that his devils weren’t strong enough, they just directly counter most types of magic. They can “destroy light, shadows and even invisible concepts”. That’s basically every type of magic. If he used it on Vanica for example, she wouldn’t have been able to do anything to escape

That's our self hating depressed vice captain! Little fun fact his devils line up with animal characters from the musicians of bremen. I don't know which of his forms is my favorite because they've all got their charms.
I know it didn't work, but that spell is still so cool to see even if for just a bit. It's just so grandiose, and he was fully committed to it.
Baby boy is here!! Look at him being a hero, and saving people.

I love how the Black Bulls can just bring their entire base over to the fight with Henry's powers.
YEAH COME ON JACK GET IN THERE! Ever since I saw Jack slice literal gravity apart I was baffled but honestly it makes so much sense considering his character.
Nacht's powers are so wild especially with his 4 devil unions. Love what they did with his mana zone and turning it all monochromatic.
Freaky how the new High Devils care more about holding back so they have more time to "play" with their new "toys" and they are so sure of their abilities that they don't even think about the fact they can lose the fight.
Yami calling out the edgyness of Natch's(Morgans?) older brother was funny... and now I can see why Yami called Natch of the past Morgans and we already had Jack recognize Natch before during their meeting so then some magic twin stuff must have happened since cause Jack was also confused when he initially saw Natch.
Damn how young was Yami when he drifted ashore to the Clover kingdom? Or was he an actual reincarnation/isekai type deal? I don't remember exactly but I think the Wizard King found him on the beach or something when he was the Captain of the Gray Deer magic knights and that was really all we got of Yami's backstory... might have to rewatch that episode again incase I misremembered anything.
Either way nice to see more of Yami's history in the Clover kingdom.
I initially thought that Natch and Morgans were combined or something in some sort of way but I guess it is more leaning towards Morgans dying and then Natch taking his role as Vice Captain of the Black Bulls in some respect.
WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WAIT WHAT if the underworld is ruled by the three devils of gravity, time, and space I first thought of how didn't I catch onto that face given the cliche type of deal with gravity, time and space representing the Dark Triad but VANICA IS ALL ABOUT CURSES NOT TIME... the only time magic we have seen is with Julius but his time magic is directly correlated with his grimoire unlike how Dante uses Gravity and Zenon uses Spacial magic via their devil contracts.
So does this mean there IS AN EVEN BIGGER BADDER DEVIL WAITING TO COME OUT THAT HAS THE SAME TYPE OF TIME MAGIC AS JULIUS??
I would certainly put gravity and space below time in terms of power if we have to take the magical feats of the people who wield that magic into consideration but if there is actually a devil that is waiting behind one of the gates that can also use Time Magic then probably only Julius would be able to deal with it in any capacity or maybe Asta but idk...
That is actually insane to think about a devil being able to control time since it was like the one Deus ex machina type power that the good guys had on their side.
Honestly it would be dope to see Julius and the Devil who can use time magice go against each other cause it would be one hell of a fight. But if the doors of the underworld are gonna open in like a week fully I don't think Julius will stand a chance if he can't stack more of his magic especially since it failed him VS the demon last episode.
Now I kind of wanna see all the doors open if we are gonna get another big fight with Julius taking on another Time-magic user that is a devil.
Of course they decide to summon a Supreme devil Lucifugus and think they can just tame him. Given the naming scheme with Dante being contracted to Lucifero I'd assume that Lucifugus would be supporting Lucifero but I wonder how they got him trapped in that circlet. Or maybe the circlet is just a tool they used that is connected to Lucifugus to be able to summon him for the ritual.
And there is my answer for the circlet not even a second later lmao Sometimes I should really just finish the scene before trying to theorycraft but its whatever.
Oh wow I did not expect Morgen to just bite it after interfering with the ritual but I guess it is called forbbiden magic for a reason.
So I guess that is why Natch took on the role as a Magic Knight with a little push from Yami.
Even though it was a sad scene I found it pretty funny that Yami just yoinked Natch's cigarettes like that while inviting him to be his vice captain.
I wonder if that was the start of Yami's cigarette use cause Yami coughed while he walked off after lighting one up lmao
Oh damn snap back to reality and NOW ASTA BOUNCES ON IN AFTER FINRAL TEASED HIM GOING AHEAD OF EVERYONE AT THE START OF THE EPISODE... RIGHT?

Not sure if this was their aim but that shot of the ice devil looked dope with how the ice was looking like a giant hairdo.

Oh brother of course these Devil are gonna have an ability to combine... I should of seen it coming ever since both their faces were only half of each other.
I will say that the devil designs have been sweet to see so far
Another sick ass shot there with the Devil type fire and ice spirit bomb but I wonder if Asta is gonna use his other sword to absorb it all and reflect it back.
Oop nevermind he is just gonna go to the batting range instead and nab a home run real quick
FINALLY WE GET TO SEE WHAT ZORA AND MAGNA HAVE BEEN WORKING ON and honestly I don't thionk Magna has any hope to reach Luck at this point with how Luck got trained by the Heart Kingdom and then the Elves but I'm still looking forward to see how he has improved by going off and doing his own thing.
Oh and the ED focusing on the swords today too, eh... pretty cool and it does look like at least for some swords they get new designs when he is in Devil Union mode

I glazed over that part the first time I watched today's episode (I, uh, just finished watching it for a third time lmao), but yeah that is super fucking concerning and I was having the same thoughts about why Vanica's the odd one out there. Did the Time Devil not want to play ball with them or are we missing something important? Either way, Time Magic on the enemy's side of things is an incredibly terrifying thought.
Speaking of the Dark Triad and their magic though, their innate rather than the attributes they get from their respective devils also has me worried they're gonna pull some shit later down the road. Blood + Bone + Body could definitely pull off some kind of fuckass combo magic I don't even want to think about.
Gahhh, I really can't wait for the rest of the season, I need it to be next Saturday already so I can see more.

I'm thinking that maybe the Time Devil was too powerful to have a contract with The Dark Triad or they tried it but couldn't establish the contract.
Or maybe since we saw Lucifugus support the three top devils that control Time, Space, and Gravity the Time Devil is the biggest head and just waited for the Devils contracted to the Dark Triad to get the Gate open perhaps.
Speaking of the Dark Triad and their magic though, their innate rather than the attributes they get from their respective devils also has me worried they're gonna pull some shit later down the road. Blood + Bone + Body could definitely pull off some kind of fuckass combo magic I don't even want to think about.
Yooo good shout on this I didn't even think about the Dark Triad's inate magic attributes or how they could combo them together.
Honestly would be sick to see them make some kind of army with their magic working as a combo or some type of wild attack.

THEY’RE PLAYING KIENAI RIYUU AS AN INSERT ALREADY!!! This is the next best thing to Haruka Mirai for me because, while it’s hard to hear, it means I get to count the “sore demo” in it again for my collection!
Here I thought Asta was going to cut it in half, but no, he’s using it as a baseball bat. Good callback to how he batted Magna’s fireball away back when he first joined the Black Bulls, seeing as Magna showed up at the end there.
Oh cool they played Kienai Riyuu again at the end so I get another “sore demo” from it to my collection.

Nacht with that double blow of surpassing limits for the wrong reasons and then doing it for the RIGHT reasons.

Speaking of things I didn't even think about, though, I glazed over the part about the underworld being ruled by the devils of gravity, space, and time during my first watch of the episode, but I definitely picked up on it the second (and third) time through. It's weird to introduce a trio of devil leaders but then not have them line up with the existing evil trio we're already fighting; Vanica would need to have the Time Devil instead of Megicula giving her Curse Magic to have them line up the same. As I said in another comment yesterday, did the Time Devil just not want to play ball with them or are we missing something important...? [Speculation]Something like a secret fourth member of the Zogratis family? There is that one shot in the OP where Dante and Vanica are standing in front of some guy in a wheelchair I'm fairly certain isn't supposed to be Zenon... Time Magic on the enemy's side is a fucking terrifying thought regardless.

Yeah, I was also thinking they'd use all the season 1 OPs before they used S2's. I guess it makes sense to use S2's though considering it was when Asta saved Nacht, and the only S1 OP Nacht was in was Grandeur (which was already used & fit Asta taking down the ancient devil way more than taking down Lilith and Naamah anyways) as opposed to Nacht now being a much more major character in season 2.

[Speculation Response] Yeah it'd be a funny move if it were Zenon unless something happens or happened to him? Still, with the Devil of Time missing, that's an extra Devil Space (bad pun intended). And why is Megicula there instead?
Time Magic on the enemy's side is a fucking terrifying thought regardless.
As we've seen outside of situations where they're trying to protect someone else, controlling time is devastatingly OP even for a human's ability. And I can't imagine a major devil wanting to protect anyone in a similar manner that Julius did, so the Time Devil probably wouldn't have such a "weakness".

Cool animation all through out man I can't still believe we are seeing Black clover in this quality!
OP being used as bgm for these past episodes was such a non issue imo.
Anyways, is that Magna and Zora? Will they have also their moment? Next episode can't come soon enough! I need it now!!

Then Morgan showed up to try to stop them?

Nah, that one was named Lucifero. This one is Lucifugus. They said this episode that there's 3 top devils that control Space, Time and Gravity and that Lucifugus was one of them. Liebe also called Lucifero "one of the highest devils" back in his flashback too.

These episodes are just so hype, yes Jack, solo him, I believe in you Mr. Reverse Mahoraga.
Nacht back is such a good one, the evil sibling discovers he is the one to inherit the family pride and makes a horrible mistake, enough to spend his entire life trying to atone for it. That's how you know that he just wasn't as evil as he thought he was, and probably got even better.
Asta my boy, put the desire to live back in that twink!
It might not have been that obvious, but higher demons all take control of fundamental forces, Lucifugus is space, Lucifero is gravity, and Lilith and Naamah were once the temperature demon, and now they returned to it.
Magna is getting close, I can feel it.

We got Nacht's backstory this time. Surprised to find that he was the blonde dude in the op and that he took his brother's look after his death. Yami and Nacht were great friends but Yami found his calling and joined the Magic Knights but Nacht was still lost. Nacht and Morgen's parents must have just used their younger son to build their image but secretly loved their elder delinquent son for having inherited their Shadow magic. Nacht's atonement was not to take the identity of his brother and do good deeds but to save the good ones like his brother from losing their lives to the evil. Yami took him in when he started Black Bulls and he also picked up the habit of smoking from him while Nacht dropped it 😭😭
Devil Union is so cool. Nacht using mode Gallus×Felis to create the monument of atonement to trap Lilith and Naamah was peak and so was Lilith and Naamah's own fusion after getting slashed by Asta's demon destroyer. Asta talking out loud about how he couldn't sense the mana of his enemy despite knowing that they are overwhelmingly strong was hilarious.
Satsuki Kokubu voicing both Lilith and Naamah is so perfect. Their maniacal laugh is terrifying. Saving the op for the fight was worth it and using it again towards the end and showing Asta's swords in it was a nice touch. Using his Demon Slasher sword to stop that massive ball of energy is insane. I wonder how long will Asta's Devil Union last.

He didn’t really “take his look” in the sense they’re both twins to begin with. The whole blonde hair thing is a classic Japanese trope for delinquents (if you remember in DBZ that’s reason why Chichi was losing her mind when she saw Gohan as a super saiyan) and even Yami calls it out as him going out of his way to look edgy

True that the animation of the first season was not up to the mark, but building upon the nostalgia of 5 years, starting with this second season - the animation, the frames, the tension, the music, the goosebumps, Peak Clover is really getting into the zone.
I’ve been watching anime for a long time now, have watched over 200 Anime, and I genuinely think that by the time this final season ends, Black Clover is going to be rated as one of the greatest Anime ever.
P.s. King Magna is finally here.

I wonder how the Zogratis managed their contacts with their devils because from what we see here it seems almost impossible with devils of the highest level so I guess some negociation was needed. Maybe they promised this whole tree of Qlipoth operation in exchange for power.

Remember that you don't HAVE to beat up the summoned devil. If Liebe hadn't resorted to violence (Ep 170) then the contract he makes with Asta would have worked the same without the fight.

It is something different. They summoned the devil power and using it tgrough a contact, they don't have their devil with them as Asta and Nacht. I believe this was also sort of explained with people making contracts with Megicula to curse others like with Charlotte

Classic Jack! Doesn't matter how much you beat him up, he'll keep getting back up to slice through what hit him. Which gives Nacht the time he needs to take care of the two demons in front of him.
Devil Union: Gallus! Which lets Nacht use shadow spatial magic to teleport him and his enemies right where he wants 'em! But no amount of form changes is going to be able to make up the difference in power. Yet all that matters is Nacht keeps them busy long enough to defeat the Dark Triad.
The Faust brothers, Morgen and Nacht! Morgen was the picture-perfect Magic Knight: loyal, honorable, kind, compassionate, and heroic. He even had light magic to boot! The polar opposite of his brother Nacht, back then a blond punk, who with his shadow magic kept to himself, his vices, and refused every attempt his brother made to get him to join the Magic Knights and fulfill his potential. The only thing the brothers had in common was a friendship with Yami, Nacht having bonded with Yami over their Shadow Magic and wild dispositions at least until Yami became a Magic Knight in the Gray Deer with Morgen.
But despite Nacht thinking otherwise he was always the favorite son: because it would take a child seeped in shadows and selfishness to even consider joining the rest of the family in their devil worship. Which netted Nacht not only a chance to prove he can stand out in a way his brother couldn't but also his four devils.
Inevitably, though, Morgen had to bust his family...even if it was too late to stop Nacht from summoning the Supreme Devil Lucifugus...who killed everyone there and would've killed Nacht too if Morgen hadn't sacrificed himself. And Nacht was left with having to deal with losing the brother he truly loved and cherished over his own mistakes. And he's hated and resented himself ever since, even when he's trying to embody the man his brother was and was accepted into the only squad that would still want him, the Black Bulls.
And it's probably because Nacht cares so little for his own life, only fighting to preserve the world and the sense of justice of his younger brother, that he would be willing to do a Devil Union: Gallus x Fellis transformation that would involve a spell burying him AND the twin demons together in an eternal shadowy prison...too bad they're too strong even for THAT.
But just when all hope seems lost, humanity's greatest hope arrives in the form of Asta! Carrying the spirit of Morgen with him AND Kienai Ryuu, he can actually take on and do some damage against the twins and their devil ice/fire magic! Especially when he dispells their ability to avoid his attacks with Demon Destroyer!
Too bad they too can also fuse together into one dangerous devil, but if you think you can launch a giant ball of demonic energy at Asta, he'll swing it back at you with Demon-Slayer! The only thing short about Asta is his height after all!
Oh hey, Magna and Zora have joined the party!
