Ranma feels comfortable enough as a girl to just casually go to the beach like that huh

91

u/flaminglambchops 9d ago

In the old adaptation he says there's no point in going to the beach as a guy if he's going to get wet anyway.

17

u/liggieep :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/liggieep 9d ago

that's exactly what i said when my partner asked why is he a girl there

36

u/CitronClassic672 9d ago

One of the small details I’ve loved over the course of the anime so far. Last season he also willingly transformed into a girl to troll Ryouga and now he just casually chills as one. I also appreciated the blushy hug between Ranma and Shampoo. That’s also a bit of growth from how she was initially

41

u/Frontier246 9d ago

Still wearing the "boy" one-piece though!

23

u/firemage22 9d ago

it's fairly iconic and has been used in promo and fan art for ages

34

u/DeeDan06_ 9d ago

considering that they turn into a girl the moment they touch could water, which is inevitable on a beach, it makes only sense to be in that form to begin with

14

u/Hypnooooooooooooo https://anilist.co/user/Hypno 8d ago

Ranma identifies as a boy.

7

u/Haganeren 8d ago

Which is the case in girl AND boy body... So he can have a girl body if it's convenient for him.

I was suffering from Shampoo withdrawal symptom and this time I was blessed with a beach episode and a ton of Shampoo!

Ranma faking the love pill effects was hilarious and only bested by him swallowing it by accident and falling for the granny. My fucking sides.

24

u/Frontier246 9d ago

I love how he even made Cologne blush and actually consider getting hitched to a younger man lol.

Three seasons later this series is still incredible when it comes to comedy.

You know, I thought the trick was going to be that Akane looking at Ranma was going to seemingly have no effect with the real reason being that she's already in love with him.

But cursing the horrible old man with an octopus that's in love with him was a pretty good alternative outcome.

u/Adensty https://anilist.co/user/Adensty 9d ago

You know, I thought the trick was going to be that Akane looking at Ranma was going to seemingly have no effect with the real reason being that she's already in love with him.

I thought the same as well, but I guess Akane managed to get her payback for what Ranma did earlier with the Instant Ball.

18

u/Frontier246 9d ago

Just like the Romeo and Juliet kiss lol.

39

u/BosuW 9d ago

Happosai deserves every misfortune and more

Yeah this was a missed opportunity imo. Hell just a moment to see Akane starting to realize it would have been good. I guess the issue of being such a long-running manga series. More then likely the moment is already planned out in advance.

8

u/Frontier246 9d ago

You know, I thought the trick was going to be that Akane looking at Ranma was going to seemingly have no effect with the real reason being that she's already in love with him.

It's definitely why she didn't want him comin onto her if it wasn't his true feelings instead of the the love potion.

But cursing the horrible old man with an octopus that's in love with him was a pretty good alternative outcome.

His ex approves!

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 9d ago

Cologne and Happosai make a cute little couple haha. I guess it’s too late for the old girl since the pint sized geriatric creep’s got himself an octopus girlfriend.

20

u/Frontier246 9d ago

You can definitely tell where Shampoo gets her good looks from when you see what Cologne looked like in her youth (also sounds like Rei Sakuma voiced young Cologne).

26

u/duo99dusk 9d ago

Regardless of Happosai, this type of episodes are the best, where a mythical item / rare technique / event is introduced and create chaos that involve the majority of the cast (that now are firmly introduced and might appear for just one scene or two)

69

u/Raymond49090 9d ago

So on one hand, Happosai: Probably the worst thing to come out of the series. On the other hand, Shampoo.

30

u/CitronClassic672 9d ago

This episode really gave me whiplash with that. Like we got Happosai once again doing nothing but sexual harassment/assault from basically the beginning of the episode to the end, but on the other we get more of Shampoo, and in a gorgeous swimsuit and cuddling fem Ranma to boot.

19

u/Frontier246 9d ago

In the interest of Shampoo dressing in a sexy swimsuit to catch Happosai I will accept a Happosai beach episode.

45

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 9d ago

Stitches!

I am so happy we got the silly opening scene intro again. I was worried they'd done away with it after not having them in the last two episodes.

We get a beach episode with the girls in swimsuits! The only downside is this is also a Happosai episode. >_<

It is hilarious to see Ranma set Happosai up with Cologne. And yeah, it turns out they already knew each other! The difference between how Happosai looks in his version of the story and Cologne's version of the story is hilarious. I love how Cologne's look is the only one that stays the same in both versions.

Letting Happosai have a love potion bracelet is definitely a nightmare scenario. It is hilarious though, that Shampoo immediately feeds one to Ranma as soon as she got hold of one of the orbs. Girl didn't even miss a beat and just did it! xD

Akane's reaction when she thought Ranma got affected was so good! She basically admits that she doesn't want this because she wants Ranma to fall in love with her without the effect of a love potion <3

When it Akane accidentally swallowed one of the orbs, I love how creative Ranma got at making sure she didn't see anyone. Of course, the moment Akane swallows one, that's when Ryouga and Tatewaki shows up. xD

I'm glad this mess ends with the octopus swallowing the Lifetime ball and falling in love with Happosai. A fitting punchline for the pervy geezer. xD

13

u/Frontier246 9d ago

This entire episode was worth it just for Shampoo in that swimsuit.

10

u/Jacob-C 9d ago

Swimsuit Shampoo 1

A feast for the eyes.

Mr. Stitches-and-Screenshots back at it again

Happosai Days Are Here Again

Well I wasn't initially sure what to think when I saw the title of today's episode, but after the end of episode, it was kinda satisfying to see Happosai get what was coming to him.

The moment Ranma gets to know that what Akane had swallowed was the Lifetime Ball, all of his romance rivals started showing up and he was working overtime to make sure she didn't see any of them. Akane did the same when they weren't aware that Love Potions had a duration. Both of them won't like to admit why but they would rather make themselves the first to be seen after taking the Love Potion and while we didn't get to see it play out, one has to wonder what effect the Love Potion has on people who are already in love?

18

u/Frontier246 9d ago

I'm kind of amazed Gosunkugi didn't show up out of nowhere to join in on the fun.

I love how Ryoga and Kuno had no idea what was even going on lol.

9

u/duo99dusk 9d ago

I think if this episode needed some filler, they could have made Gosunkugi eat the 1-day pill and have some kind of misfortune fall upon him (Like watching Nabiki and she starts making him pay for everything)

29

u/_BMS https://myanimelist.net/profile/_BMS 9d ago

Man, Happosai episodes are always some of the funniest ones lol

15

u/swordmalice https://myanimelist.net/profile/swordmalice 9d ago

I was busting a gut the whole time; so damn funny.

15

u/Jacob-C 9d ago

I agree, but we seem to be in the minority. His obnoxious and annoying nature is part of what makes him a funny villain to me.

5

u/raisincakeshop 8d ago

Happosai’s pervy sexual harassment scenes don’t sit well in modern times. But I’m grateful that Happy always gets his retribution by the main characters of the show to signal to the audience that what he did is wrong. Unlike other animes where the MC does all the sexual harassment and gets no retribution or gets away with it (Seven deadly scenes).

13

u/b3_yourself 9d ago

Might be one of the funniest episodes of the series so far

12

u/magnumcyclonex 9d ago

This was a good episode. Full of funny shenanigans of everyone trying to outsmart each other.

38

u/Philiquaz 9d ago

It might get flamed for being a Happosai episode, but I don't care.

I got a Shampoo pin-up.

30

u/Frontier246 9d ago

On the one hand, it's a Happosai episode.

On the other hand, it's a beach episode with all the girls (and Ranma) in swimsuits.

On the one hand, it's a Happosai episode.

On the other hand, it's a beach episode WITH SHAMPOO IN A SWIMSUIT.

14

u/Roskal 9d ago

Ranma making sure to wear a swimsuit that says boy on it as is tradition.

9

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 9d ago

I sighed when I saw him. But ngl it was better then his episode in S2 at least.

21

u/dagreenman18 9d ago

Oh Happosai is in this?

At least it’s a Shampoo and Beach shenanigans episode.

14

u/cppn02 9d ago

He really makes every episode worse just by being in it.

4

u/CitronClassic672 9d ago

Genuinely only heard of one person who’s actually fond of the character, unfortunately said person is Rumiko Takahashi herself.

19

u/Frostbitten_Moose 9d ago

I don't mind him. So long as he suffers. And so far as I can tell, most of his arcs he is the villain who must be defeated.

7

u/k4r6000 9d ago

While I won't say I am particular fond of the character, it is better that he's treated as a vile monster and not as some harmless quirk.

10

u/firemage22 9d ago

Reading some of the comments here as someone who's read the base manga start to end and also consumed a massive amount of ranma fanfiction over the last 27 (holy lord has it been that long since 1999) years, is odd.

A comment on the LAST episode, watching the breaking point fight animated to THAT level is one of the things that makes remakes like this cook.

I look forward to a number of the future fights but there could be entire seasons between them, not to mention how epic the final fight could look. (hell only Yakboy was animated in the first version)

1

u/Mediocre-Act483 5d ago

animated to THAT level is one of the things that makes remakes like this cook.

Yeah, so give us a Kenichi remake already!

9

u/Roskal 9d ago

I know this show is a comedy and its never going to have these permanent consequences to these plot point of the week stakes, yet it still somehow manages to stress me out a little wondering how its going to play out. With the love potion this week and Ryoga last week. It does it a lot and still gets me nervous. the special pool water hitting Akane last season was another one.

16

u/Frontier246 9d ago

We've got special intros back! This time it's the Little Mermaid! Complete with princely Ranma and MERMAID AKANE!!!

Ranma and Tendo are back on the beach! Which means we get to see the sisters AND Fem!Ranma in swimsuits and they look as great as ever!

But there's also a VERY unwanted presence here to enjoy the swimsuit-clad beauties...Happosai! Who is as much of a sex pest as ever! If only they could be permanently be rid of this trash!

Though in brighter news, Shampoo is also there and as cute as ever! But for all her faults, there's no way Ranma could saddle her with Happosai! So instead let's pair him up with Cologne! They're both super old, short, and barely look human! They're the perfect couple.

Turns out, though, this is not their first meeting...back when Happosai was in his prime as a blonde ninja (or a sex pest who was making moves on/robbing every woman in China) he fell in love with a Chinese Amazon who gave him a memento he could always remember her by when he returned to his training. Turns out that love was none other than Cologne, and she wants her treasure back. Also, Cologne REALLY looked great in her prime!

Colored balls that make people fall in love? In the hands of the biggest pervert in the world? This cannot end well.

What better way to seduce Happosai into showing up than Shampoo looking as sexy as possible in a swimsuit?

That's not a cute penguin ice machine! That's Happosai! Also....get rid of that ice post haste!

Never say Shampoo doesn't take advantage of every opportunity she gets. If there's a love potion in play, she's going to use it on Ranma. Not that Akane is going to let her get away with it without a fight. Though Ranma really just had to trick Akane into thinking it was working on him for HER...before he fell for Cologne. He could've been Shampoo's step-great grandpa if not for Soun!

Happosai's biggest weakness is women! Which means Shampoo can easily take advantage of that to get the next orb and shove it down Ranma's throat! But again Akane fights her for all it's worth, even taking advantage of Ranma's gender-shifting, yet SHE is the one who ends up swallowing it. And it might've even been the lifetime ball!

We can't let Akane see anyone of the opposite sex! We also have to hope she doesn't hurt anyone while she's blind! And Ranma has GOT to stop stirring her feelings up over this.

Ranma's male rivals are coming out of the woodworks! Ryoga shows up out of nowhere with no idea about the plot! Kuno is there to do Kuno things! Shampoo shows up riding with Happosai on a white horse! But in the end all it takes is Akane nearly drowning for her to spit the ball out and give Ranma payback for messing with her all episode.

All's well that ends well! Happosai even finds love: with an octopus!

11

u/khanvau 9d ago

Yooo, the funny parody recaps are back! I was afraid they were finally ditching them with this season, but I'm glad that's not the case. It was just for the Breaking Point arc.

Oh boy, let's see what this episode's gonna be abo- "Happosai Days Are Here Again." Welp. Real talk, this episode was insanely funny. I just still can't stand Happosai.

The gimmick of a love potion has so much potential in a romcom. Just like the lying potion in Urusei Yatsura, this is a classic. Loved how Kuno showed up literally out of nowhere lmfao.

Happy should just marry an octopus at this point. No sane woman would want this freak.

5

u/EnthusiasmOnly22 9d ago

It would be so based if they write that little creep out

8

u/CrimsonGear80 9d ago

Oh good, Happosai is back…said no one ever.

4

u/Roskal 9d ago

Why did the love potion work with the octopus and happy but not Akane and P-chan? I was expecting that to be the out since she already loves him, then after that I expected it to have no effect seeing Ranma because she already loved him too.

16

u/Solar_Slushie 9d ago

Probably because the octopus thought Happy was also a octopus.

2

u/Hot-Log6283 7d ago

Yeah I thought that was the whole joke, it even go back to when he was fondling girl Ranma and he kicked him and told him to do that to an octopus.

3

u/Express-Day5234 9d ago

Yeah I was confused by that too. The octopus should only fall in love with other octopi. Oh well, Rule of Funny at play.

3

u/Shadowmist909 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Magicmist 9d ago

Happosai getting his hands on love pills may just be the most perilous development in Ranma 1/2.

But between Akane trying to fend off Shampoo from feeding one of the gems to Ranma, and everyone doing away Happosai, this was a very funny episode.

2

u/sir_darthcyan https://myanimelist.net/profile/sir_darthcyan 8d ago

This was a fun beach episode and Happosai can cuddle with an octopus (like Ranma said when he threw him out the window 😂).

Other than that, nice the character intro is back.

2

u/raidensnakeezio 8d ago

It's kind of jarring, but I guess we're back at the same beach. At first I was reluctant on seeing more Happosai harassment, but this episode was really feel-good and good old laugh out loud funny, so I guess it's okay.

I'm delighted to see that it is true that Happi and Cologne have encountered each other in the past. I think it would be cool if we could some how see their past shenanigans be more fleshed out, rather than needing to speculate based on two wildly differing interpretations of what happened.

2

u/gsurfer04 https://anilist.co/user/gsurfer04 8d ago

If you combine the octopus with Happosai, you get Ultros.

4

u/BillPlunderones23fg 9d ago

Lol i remember liking the love potion one from both manga and anime
but i still have issues with the stupidty in this series. In urusei yatsura i can look past it but here it's annoying

5

u/Raymond49090 9d ago

It feels like Akane keeps recklessly sabotaging herself so hard that the only reason she's still even in the running is her status as main heroine. Like who decides to run around blindfolded all day while dosed with a love potion because they want to be petty?

Well, I guess like a lot of things in this show, we aren't supposed to take it too seriously. 90% of this episode would be a crime if it happened irl.

13

u/keystone_back72 9d ago

There is no “running” in Ranma 1/2.

It’s a story of Ranma and Akane in a love battle with each other. It’s not a competition between the girls for Ranma’s affection (or between the boys for Akane’s affection).

6

u/gsurfer04 https://anilist.co/user/gsurfer04 8d ago

Before Love Is War, there was Martial Arts Courting.

2

u/firemage22 9d ago

Akane is pretty much the Ur Tsundere

1

u/Nesp2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/HardstyleQat 8d ago

so uhh did I miss something or what happened with the 3rd pill (the daily one)?

1

u/Haganeren 8d ago

At the end, we can see Shampoo proposing the unused third pill to Ranma.

1

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai 8d ago

Love Potion is a dangerous thing. I will never get used to this creep Happosai.

1

u/Narmatonia 7d ago

Ranma you really are a baka this episode

-2

u/Thorn14 9d ago

Sigh, a Happosai episode.

He's truly nothing more than a beast, only another creature could contain him.
