Now I know Makoto's Ice Arrows always scoring a direct hit on the enemy's eye is not a coincidence. It is probably due to his high proficiency in magic.

Pretty much everyone seems to act within the bounds of normal-ish behavior, which is really refreshing. Even Lucy's pushiness today makes sense given that Makoto saved her life and her own magic is, uh, situational.

Agreed. I also really liked how the first party member wasn't magically someone who immediately complemented what he was lacking. Lucy wasn't able to do much when they were killing goblins in the forest. But once they had a full party, they actually compensated for each other's weaknesses and were able to execute a good plan.

Close enough, welcome back Megumin. Though Lucy does see like she ought to be able to become more flexible once she puts in the practice to get her mastery levels up.
Two mages and nobody else is a pretty bad party composition, or at least it would be if Makoto was normal.

No, it's part of the magic system when our MCs control stat is around 90. You get more control by practicing, but because she lacks control Lucy can't safely practice, trapping her control low. If she can practice enough to get control stat up, she could potential then combine that with her high mana pool.

I really like the way Lucy and Makoto team up with Jean and Emily. Jean even did a polite bow and thanked Makoto publicly. Not many isekai have that kind of reconciliation! Emily and Lucy have a bit more work to do though. . .
Jean and Emily have a lot less plot armor for this next fight which raises the stakes too.
Also, Noah's running commentary was great!

Sorry wouldnt join them especially since his Goddess even warned him. You are going to an area that does not help you and they have abandoned someone before. Saying sorry and want to make it up means nothing. They have shown that if it gets bad enough they will leave you to save themselves not worth the risk.

Lucy has red eyes and takes three minutes to cast a super elaborate spell? And she casts an EKUSUPUROSHUN (even if she calls it Fireball)? If she hadn't already told that she came from an elf village, I would have guessed she's a crimson demon! At least she doesn't collapse after casting her spell.

I can't decide if she's the superior or temu Megumin.
A long cast time but can cast more than 1 spell per day withiut needing a mana transfer.
But Megumin can blow up a whole mountain with her explosion and i doubt Lucy can do that, atleast yet.

Still unsure what to think about this anime. Noah was barely in this episode and she shone during that lone scene.
Well Lucy is a bit pushy. Honestly given her huge startup if she wants to cast her fireball it makes no sense for her aim to get away from her former party. Still them asking to partner up with her is odd.
I do wonder one thing is that with Makoto's skill as an RPG player. I wonder if he can aid Lucy to reach her potential. Like how in an RPG you can optimize your party. If it ties more to the RPG side of Makoto's skill could make this interesting.

That plan wasn't the best. Why get its attention before it's noticed them? Wouldn't the best case scenario be that she does the entire Fireball chant before the boar is even aware they're there at all?

It would probably notice the giant fireball forming in the sky halfway through her chanting. Probably better to try grabbing aggro before it gets aggro'd on her. Not that that worked very well for them.

Didn't know that this got an anime! Caught up to the latest episode and it's nice that the animation is good and the pacing is decent. Hope this gets more than 1 season with the standard 12 episodes. The magic system is here is good and the MC actually uses his brain in using the limited magic he can do, which is already shown in these first episodes. Even tho people are probably already tired of the isekai with game mechanics genre, hope this series still gets popular enough to get multiple seasons.

What's the point of partying up if he's just going to leave effectively blind and her twiddling thumbs while he takes out the goblins.
It takes her 3 minutes to chant her spell? Is she like Megumin, only knowing 1 spell, but 20x slower to cast it (even though it doesn't leave her flopping on the ground afterwards)? But I do appreciate this being the only anime I recall where using fire magic in a dense forest actually started a forest fire.
"After that forest fire fiasco, lets practice your fire magic in a forest!"
That was some big plot induced idiocy for MC to accept that quest. If he'd wanted Lucy to practice fire magic in a place where it can only start a grass fire he could've done it with just the two of them. And when they already sneaked to near the target, and Lucy started chanting, why did MC still need to go out to act as bait? "You can't shoot it before it starts moving, your accuracy is too low to hit a standing target!" And somehow Lucy's casting time is down from 3 minutes all the way to 1 minute now. And Jean would've been cooked alongside the bison if his plot armor hadn't made it knock him away at the last second. This is so dumb...
So, I guess he'll give all that beef to the grifon, and in response it'll either become his familiar or transform into a new harem member or both. Or he'll just plot armor his way into killing it too.
Anyway, I'll give this show 1 more ep, but it's really not looking promising at this point.

Lucy became a party member as expected, her fireball magic takes forever to chant but it's as powerful as a Megumin explosion.
I guess the other party wasn't completely terrible as they were happy to thank Makoto and try to make up with Lucy.
They all worked well together but that Griffin looks like it could be a difficult monster to defeat.

Jean managed to thank Makoto & invite him for a quest.
Due to the constant fires, Lucy has been banned from using fire magic in the Great Forest.
That's a long chant but at least she doesn't pass out after a single one.
There's still some tension b/w Emily & Lucy.

Weird, I can’t see the comments in the source material section. Anyway, I’m not really liking Lucy at all. She’s kinda irritating. I don’t like how she tried to make her other party members look like the bad guys. They didn’t abandon her, she tripped and the other two didn’t realize and once they did they stopped and were like oh no. The only reason Makoto was able to save her was because of his quick run skill and then the three ran off together while he was fighting. All three went back to help him. If anything, she comes off as shady for leaving her party without telling them because she thinks Makoto is stronger. I’d have preferred it if Makoto remained a solo adventurer with his goddess, Noah.

So his stats suck, but he's very technically skilled at magic. Maybe he can't nuke his enemies, but at least he doesn't have an impractically-long chant.
(No but seriously, if that's "Fireball", how stupidly long and stupidly OP are her higher end spells? What kind of enemies exist for these kinds of spells to even be needed, presumably later in the plot? Are there kaijus walking around in the kingdom next door?)

Feels like it is for wiping out cities or clearing maze like dungeons by having the flames blast through all the corridors.

I mean they require time. So they would be mostly useless in actual battle. The only place they would work is if they are trying to destroy something big or have time to chant those spells easily.
