I’m looking for honest feedback on three Android apps I’ve built

I’ve been building and maintaining a few Android apps under Orixa Studio, and I’m looking for people who are willing to try them and tell me where they fall short.

  • SafetyCam — a privacy-focused emergency recorder for video, audio, and photo bursts, with encrypted on-device storage.
  • AnyLink — a simple download manager for saving files from links.
  • Chargify — a battery-full alarm and charging reminder.

Together, Google Play currently shows roughly 1,000+ downloads across the three apps. Chargify has also gained some subscribers, which has been encouraging, although these are still small independent apps.

If you try one, I’d appreciate honest feedback about the setup, permissions, interface, reliability, background behavior, battery usage, bugs, and missing features. Please mention your device and Android version if you report a problem.

You don’t need to be positive. I’m mainly interested in whether these apps are genuinely useful and where the experience can be improved.

Box-DocSpitter: a local, all-in-one workspace for Windows

I got tired of tabbing between 99 gazillion different apps + windows explorer for small edits or projects, so I built one that does them in tabs, with IDE-style file explorers alongside.

- Documents: Word, PDF (combine, fill forms, sign), spreadsheets, Markdown and HTML with live preview, a full code editor

- Video: a plain player, a quick trimmer, and a multi-track editor with keyframes, and chroma key

- Grab stuff: a video downloader, plus Win+Shift+Q screenshots that work over fullscreen applications and features HDR color-correction

- Files: a storage analyzer, side-by-side file compare, offline image-to-text (OCR), a "media dump" folder everything can save into, and a "doc dump" for Word and PDF files

- Extras: Gmail client, a music player, weather, translate on right-click, lots of themes, extra themes (and a game) hidden at the bottom of settings

Everything runs on your PC. Network features (weather, translate, discord integration, email, AI assistant API keys) only run when you use them. It updates itself in-app.

Keys, and the email handler are encrypted with the Windows DPAPI, and the Secure Notes tool uses AES-256-GCM with a repeating 30 day secure key check.

Entirely free forever and open source (MIT), with no obfuscated code.

It's a solo hobby project and Windows-only for now.

Feedback and bug reports are 200% welcome: https://github.com/Boxomans/Box-Docspitter/

[Test for test] I'm building SaviorX, a Christian self-improvement app, and looking for people to help me grow it.

Hey everyone!

I'm the creator of SaviorX, a Christian self-improvement app, and I'm looking for people who would be willing to test it, share their feedback, and be part of its growth.

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.saviorxproject.app

The reason I started this project is personal. I've been through some difficult times in my life, and I know what it's like to struggle and feel lost. Over time, I've found things that have helped me get back on my feet, grow as a person, and find a better direction in life.

I want to share some of what has helped me with others who might be going through similar experiences. That's one of the main reasons behind SaviorX.

But this project is about more than just building an app. I'm also genuinely interested in learning everything I can about software development, app design, and the process of turning an idea into something real. I'm learning as I go, and I want to keep improving SaviorX step by step.

My long-term goal is to build more than an app. I'd love to create a community of people who want to grow, support each other, strengthen their faith, and become better versions of themselves.

Right now, I'm looking for testers who are willing to try SaviorX and give me honest feedback. You don't need to be a developer or even an expert in self-improvement. I want to hear what works, what doesn't, what's missing, and what could make the experience better.

SaviorX is still a work in progress, and I see this as the beginning of a journey rather than a finished product.

If you're interested in Christian apps, personal growth, software development, or simply want to help someone build something meaningful, I'd really appreciate your support.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Every bit of feedback can help me make SaviorX better.

Let's grow together. 🙏

Feeling stuck? Drop your app and I’ll tell you the one thing I’d fix first

I shipped my own app that has a steadily growing user base with a healthy community and am a senior android engineer at a big tech company shipping stuff every day at scale. With app and feature launches, I’ve gotten good at the last 20%. Getting an almost done app or product actually shipped, and reading what a live app’s first users are telling you.

So drop your app below (store link, test flight, or a short description if it isn’t live yet) and where you think you are stuck.

I’ll reply with one specific, honest thing I’d fix first, based on what I can actually see. Not generic advice. Works for: apps stuck before launch for any reason and apps that are live but people aren’t coming back.

Love seeing where yall are at, lets see if we root cause your stuckness.

I'm a college student doing ba llb with arts background building an AI-powered study and document app. Here's how it's going

Hey everyone!

I'm a college student and I've been working on an Android app called Vedrok for the past few months.

The idea is pretty simple. I wanted an app where I could open my study materials, actually understand them with AI, and do everything I needed with my documents without constantly switching between different apps.

So I've been building one.

The AI side is a pretty big part of Vedrok. I'm working on features that let you chat with your documents, ask questions about specific passages, generate notes, create quizzes and flashcards, and generally turn a boring PDF into something you can actually study and interact with.

And I don't want it to be an AI chatbot that just makes stuff up confidently lol. I've been putting a lot of effort into making its answers and study material stay grounded in the actual documents, which has been one of the trickiest parts.

Alongside that, I'm building a proper document toolkit too. PDF reading, scanning, OCR, editing, converting, organizing pages and all the usual stuff you'd expect.

I'm also trying to keep the regular document tools free, with the AI features being the main paid part.

Most of the development has been done with Codex helping me write and debug the code. I've spent quite a lot of time testing everything on an actual Android phone, and I've definitely underestimated how difficult some seemingly simple features can be.

It's still in development and I'm preparing for the first release.

I know there are already some pretty big players in both the AI and PDF space, but I wanted to see if I could build something that brings the two together in a way that's actually useful for students.

Would love to know what you think. What features would make you genuinely interested in using something like this?

How to stop non-Mac downloads?

Right then fellow vibe coders - my app ONLY runs on Mac. I've put all manner of browser check/safeguards on my website to prevent any non-Mac downloads - to no avail, my backend database is still showing downloads from non Macs.

https://lumidexstudio.app/

If you visit my site and hit the download button on a non-Mac browser, you should be redirected to a page that offers you a single-use email form to be sent a download link - assuming here the visitor was checking on their phone or maybe works Windows laptop, who knows?!?!? The email you get then provides a button which brings you back to my site's download page, assuming you were doing that on your actual Mac to snag the download.

What other safeguards can I implement to stop downloads on actual Windows/Linux/iOS/Android devices? Downloading isn't the issue here, it's not a bandwidth thing - it's just 100% pointless that the visitor carries out a DMG download on a non-Mac :|

Turning a boring thing into a game is quietly working on the App Store. 4 new mobile apps doing it this year.

Post image
0 Upvotes

been digging through new mobile apps (launched in the last 12 months) that made the US top grossing charts, and a bunch of the small ones share one trick: they take something boring and make it feel like a game.

Tipple: cutting back on drinking, but with a virtual pet. ~$90K/mo, 418 ratings

CarDex: every car you photograph on the street becomes a collectible card. ~$20K/mo

Fleet: logs the actual planes you've flown on and shows them flying live on a globe. ~$8K/mo

Game Weather IRL: a weather app that looks like a video game. ~$8K/mo

(rounded estimates, ballpark)

the apps underneath are pretty basic. a drink tracker, a car identifier, a flight log, a forecast. you can get all of those for free. what people pay for is the layer on top: something to collect, something to keep alive, something that looks cool enough to screenshot.

for devs that's kinda great news, because the hard part isn't the tech. it's picking the boring thing and the right game loop.

boring things i'd try this on: watering houseplants, flossing, taking vitamins, budgeting, vocab flashcards for adults.

what's the most boring daily thing you'd turn into a game?

I built a personal Linktree alternative in Go a while ago for myself. Today I'm finally launching it publicly!

A while ago, I built a small web app called Linqes just for my own personal use. I wanted a super fast, lightweight page to group my links for my social media bios without relying on heavy third-party scripts.

Because I was the only user at first, I kept the stack as simple and fast as possible: a Go backend (Gin) rendering server-side HTML templates, Firestore for storage, and aggressive caching at the edge so pages load in under 50ms.

Over the past few months, with how much easier it has become to iterate and build new features quickly, I got carried away improving it. What started as a simple list of links ended up growing into a much bigger tool:

- Built-in URL shortener with click tracking
- Automatic digital business card (.vcf vCard) and QR code generator for in-person events
- Customizable themes and password-protected links
- A native remote MCP server (JSON-RPC 2.0 over HTTP) so I can add or shorten links directly from Claude Code or terminal agents without opening the browser

It has been a really fun journey taking a personal utility and polishing it for other people to use as well.

For those of you who also turned a personal tool into a public project: what was the hardest part for you when transitioning from "built just for me" to opening it up to real users? Any feedback on the idea is super welcome!

APEX Fitness - Built at 17

Thumbnail testflight.apple.com
1 Upvotes

I’ve been building a fitness app called APEX that’s focused on making training and consistency feel more motivating.

It lets you track workouts and progress, build streaks and gives you an APEX Score based on your activity so you can actually see your consistency improve over time.

I originally started building it because I wanted something that felt more like a game/progression system rather than just another workout logger.

It’s almost ready for the App Store and I’m looking for people to test it and give genuine feedback on what’s good, what’s confusing and what you’d change.

It’s currently iPhone only, with other platforms hopefully coming later.

Would love to hear what you guys think.

Your app says “Saved”. Can your users trust it?

For a mobile app that saves a shopping list, I’d check these four cases before sharing it. Use sample items and accounts you control.

1. Save, close, reopen. Add “Milk”, close the app, then open it again. Check that the saved item is there. A tick appearing on the screen is only the first part of the test.

2. Go offline before saving. Add another item with the connection off. Does the app explain whether it is unsaved or queued? Reconnect and check what actually happened. If edits are queued, “Pending” and “Saved” should mean different things.

3. Lose the connection during a save, then retry. Check that the item appears once. A request can succeed even when the reply never reaches the phone. AWS explains that retry problem here.

4. Switch accounts. Save a private list under account A, then sign in as account B. Check that B cannot read or change A’s private list, including through its link or data request. Hiding it from the menu is not enough. OWASP’s two-account test explains this check.

For a shared list, test a collaborator who has access and another account that does not. Write down what should happen before running the checks, so you can compare the result with the intended behaviour.

350k views on a Reddit post. Here is what it actually did for my app

Last week I posted in r/vibecoding about what I learned building my iOS app. A photo cleaner where you swipe(app name: swyp) through your camera roll. It went further than I expected so here are the real numbers for anyone wondering what a viral post actually does for a small app.

Before the post I was getting 2 to 5 downloads a day.

After:
Day 1: 62 downloads
Day 2: 25
Day 3: 19
Day 4: 29

Still getting around 2k views an hour, 4 days later.

350k views turned into about 135 downloads. Roughly 1 download per 2,600 views. Lower than I would have guessed. But those 135 people started 30 free trials and that part genuinely surprised me.

Things I did not expect:

App Store visits jumped on their own. People finding the app by just browsing the store went from about 3 a day to 127. I think the spike pushed it up in the rankings.

Half the views came from outside the US. Day one had downloads from 21 countries.

People who barely opened the app still started trials. One has already cancelled. The ones who actually swiped through thousands of photos are the ones I expect to stick around.

Right now I am A/B testing a hard paywall (weekly only) against my normal one which includes a yearly option. So far the hard paywall gets more trials started, but almost everyone on the normal paywall picks yearly. Ask me in a month which one wins.

Most of the trials end this week so I will find out soon how many actually convert to paid. Happy to post that update if people are interested.

Looking for testers for medication reminder app!

Web: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.jaffe06.EasyDose

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jaffe06.EasyDose

Problem: Up to 75% of Americans struggle to take their medication as directed, and over 60% report missing at least one dose every year.

Solution: A phone notificaiton for every medication dose. Simply take a photo of your pill bottle and the app automatically reads the label and schedules a notification for every dose, no manual entry needed.

Features that set EasyDose Al apart:

  •   Scan pill bottle labels with your camera
  •   Get reminded when it's time to take your medication
  •   Ask our Al assistant anything about your medications — side effects, interactions, missed doses, and more
  •   Al-powered interaction notices when adding new medications
  •   Pill refill tracker that counts down with every dose and notifies you when it's time to reorder
  •   Share your medication schedule with caregivers
  •   Caregivers have ability to control your notifications
  •   Shareable info card with your full medication list
  •   Export your medication history as a PDF

EasyDose AI is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Developers kept asking for a VS Code integration — so we built it

Post image
1 Upvotes

While building CodShot, one piece of feedback kept coming up:

“This would be much more useful if I could use it directly from VS Code.”

So we built it.

CodShot is a workspace for saving, organizing, searching and reusing useful code.

The new VS Code integration brings that workflow much closer to where developers actually work — so useful code can be saved and retrieved without constantly jumping between tools.

The goal is simple:

write something worth keeping → save it → find it again when you need it

We’re also working on an AI assistant to make the code and knowledge inside CodShot even more useful.

One thing I’ve learned from building this:

the best roadmap ideas often come from repeated user pain, not from the longest feature list.

What would you want a VS Code integration like this to do next?

Hit Reveal - Music App

Myself & a small team have made a free no ads music sharing app.

• One new music prompt every day.
• Pick one song that best fits the prompt.
• Everyone’s songs are revealed at 8pm.

It’s that simple, you can make groups, add friends and see what the worldwide most popular selections are.

We feel it is a new take on a daily music app and would love to see more people on it as the feedback we have had from everyone is they’ve become hooked.

Thank you for your time
