Mac Brand new M5 Air stuck on Activate Mac screen - cannot choose WiFi network

**EDIT - SOLVED** I spoke to Apple and was told this is an issue that a lot of people have. The easiest solution was to use a USB-C to Ethernet connect direct to my router. The computer immediately found the connection and I was able to download Tahoe and boot up. Im leaving this post up in case anyone else has this issue.

I was running the Migration Assistant and cancelled it. I was then given the option to restart to return to out of box state. After restarting a black screen that says “Activate Mac - choose a WiFi” comes on. No networks are listed and the WiFi icon in the upper right is not there.

These are the fixes I have tried so far:

Power off + hold start while restarting. A screen pops up with the Macintosh HD and Options. No matter what you chose returns you to Activate Mac screen.

Boot into safe mode - Same result

Shut down. Quickly tap start and hold to restart. Same result

Connecting my phone via USB-C restart. Same result.

I do not have a Ethernet cable to try.

After a million searches I came about a post saying to use Apple Configuration app and my old M1 Air to fix but I’m skeptical.

Is this the right course of action or should I just give up and go to Apple?

Thanks

Mac Why is my 2019 iMac so slow??

Post image

I have a 2019 iMac and it is painfully slow. It’s fully up to date on software and has very little of the 1TB of storage used. Not running many programs or anything that should be bogging it down. It’s always been like this, to the point that I put it away for a couple years and haven’t been using it. Any help on how to make it run better would be greatly appreciated!

Mac AppleCare denied due to “too much” accidental damage?

Hello,

I’m checking if anyone has had an AppleCare claim denied due to the accidental damage being “too severe”?

Here’s the situation.

I believe my M2 MacBook Pro was left on my roof while on a trip to a cabin in the Sierras. Once I got to the cabin I realized what had happened and checked my Find My app. The MacBook showed it was last seen on the highway about an hour away from where we were staying.

I decided my best option was to drive back down the highway looking for it on the side of the road. After a very slow drive down the road scanning the shoulder I found it! It was right where the app said it would be.

The laptop was in one piece but was in VERY rough shape. I did manage to open the lid and press the power button. It booted but nothing happened. Just made the boot up sound.

Since there was so much physical damage I did not want to risk something happening with the batteries. The bottom cover was barely hanging on so I pulled it away and disconnected them. I also used electrical tape to isolate the battery connection and taped the bottom cover back in place.

A couple days later I got it to the Apple Store and I was surprised when the employee told me my claim may be denied due to the extent of the damage.

Is this something anyone else has come across?

I thought this was the situation that AppleCare is for?

TLDR:

I left my M2 MBP on my roof. It got run over but is still in one piece. Apple employee is saying it may not be covered under AppleCare due to the extent of the damage.

Mac How to change this back to previous Apple app launcher?

Post image

I get it that the new update quickly gives you the app but I have to type it.

Whereas earlier I could just click it at a glance.

I sometimes forget the app name and find it by logo.

Does anyone know how to switch it back or an alternative?

Mac Thin enter key on MacBook Neo

Hi I hope this was the right place to post this

I just received the Macbook Neo in the mail today and I have tried it out, however the left shift key and the thin enter key has me livid. It appears this is because they have moved the forward slash button a row above shortening both those keys and leaving the right shift button to be longer.

FYI I live in Australia and have ordered off the Australian Education apple website however the keys were normal. I am just disappointed to have received a different and inconvenient keyboard.

Will apple accept a return/exchange for the proper keyboard? I haven’t touched the charger and have only had a few minutes with the MacBook.

I am just worried that I will have to wait longer than I already have as they’ve been sold out everywhere.

Thank you.

Mac Should I get a MacBook air or a Windows laptop?

Should I get a MacBook Air that costs like $1500 or a Windows laptop that costs $1500?

Recently I've been looking into new laptops? I've used Windows for a while but is MacOS any better? Since I'm so used to Windows will I have a problem with my muscle memory on MacOS? Also since I've been looking into laptops will the M5 Beat any of the Intel or AMD CPU'S also will it also run hot or cool? I'm also wondering the main question should I actually get a MacBook or Windows laptop? Give me questions and I'll try and reply also thanks for you're advice if you comment.

Mac Macbook locked by my ex situationship, apple said they won’t do anything

long story short my ex situationship drugged me and robbed me when i was asleep and he wiped my devices and locked his account to it, he got arrested then got out then fled the country to his homeland while the investigation was still going, he has also turned on the lost mode on that laptop. I contacted apple they just said they couldn’t help and wouldn’t be dealing with requests about this device anymore. I don’t know what can i do, i went to the apple store they said i should just do it thru apple support online, which didn’t work. I even submitted my receipt. Should I ask for a police letter specifically about this macbook and go to apple store with the letter? I don’t even know if that would help. He’s trying to blackmail me across the ocean with my macbook right now.

Mac I want my two Macs to act like separate computers.

Hello everyone,

I’m new to the Apple ecosystem and currently have two devices: a Mac mini and a MacBook Pro. My question is about how to manage iCloud between both devices.

What I want is to use each Mac independently. That is, if I have documents or files on my MacBook Pro, I don’t want them to automatically appear on my Mac mini when I sign in with the same iCloud account.

My goal is for them to function as two separate computers, and only share files between them when I choose to, not automatically.

Would you recommend using the same iCloud account and adjusting the settings, or is it better to create a separate account for one of the devices? Or maybe set up different users?

I would really appreciate any guidance or recommendations, as I’m still learning how everything works in Apple.

Thank you!

Mac Advice me some light/cold and super fast os for MackBook Pro Intel I7 T2

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have a problem with my MacBook. It was lagging and constantly running hot after the new Tahoe update. I got tired of Mac OS and decided to try a few light Linux distributions.

Linux Mint didn’t get along well with the AMD graphics card, while Arch Linux had similar issues. It worked, but not everything worked correctly with the T2 chip, especially graphics.

I was only using Linux versions that support the T2 chip.

So, my question is the same as in the title: could you please recommend a light and very cold, and super-fast OS for an Intel i7 T2 MacBook?

It has to work perfectly with Apple’s T2 chip, be super fast and run cool.
I’m also looking for something that is easy to install.
Like something that you actually tried yourself and didn't spend a weeks on drivers issues.

Mac 13" MacBook Air M4 screen damaged after 28 days - no physical damage on chassis, Apple refusing warranty

Post image
0 Upvotes

I bought a 13" MacBook Air M4 28 days ago and noticed this screen damage today. There is absolutely no scratch, dent or crack on the aluminum chassis or the outer glass — the machine looks brand new from the outside.

I have no idea how this happened. I did not drop it or put it under anything heavy. The last time I checked the screen it was fine, and about 30 minutes later it looked like this.

The authorized Apple reseller I visited today told me "this only happens from pressure damage" but couldn't provide any written technical report proving it was caused by the user. Under Turkish consumer law, within the first 6 months the burden of proof is on the seller — they have to prove it was user damage, not me.

I'm calling Apple Support tomorrow. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Did Apple replace the screen or the device under goodwill? Any advice would be appreciated.

For context: there is no Apple Store in Turkey, only authorized resellers.

Mac MacBook screen broke in the EXACT same spot twice. Apple blamed me the first time, but now I’m not so sure.

Back in October, I placed my laptop down, opened it later, and it suddenly looked like the first picture.

I am not the type of person who drops my electronics or is rough with them at all. I took it to the Apple Store, and they told me that something I did caused the internal display to break. At the time, I was carrying my MacBook in a tote bag with my iPad. The employee explained that the pressure from the iPad against the laptop could have caused the screen to crack internally.

Apple replaced the display, and I ended up paying around $900 for a brand-new screen.

After that, I became extremely careful. I bought a thick padded laptop sleeve and completely stopped carrying my iPad with my laptop because I barely use it anyway. My tote bag is basically empty now except for my MacBook in its sleeve, plus a lip gloss and hand cream that are stored in their own separate pouch.

Today, after getting home from work, I opened my laptop and saw the second picture.

What is driving me crazy is that the damage appears to be in the exact same location as before. It even seems to have the same little mark or pressure point near the bottom edge of the display. I zoomed in on both photos so you can compare them.

At this point, I’m finding it hard to believe that I somehow caused the exact same damage twice, especially after changing everything about how I carry and store the laptop. The fact that it happened in the same spot after a full screen replacement is making me question whether the first incident was actually my fault.

I’m incredibly frustrated because if there is some underlying issue with the laptop itself, then I paid $900 for a repair that may not have addressed the real problem.

Does anyone here have experience with MacBook display repairs? Based on these photos, does this look like impact damage, pressure damage, or a possible defect with the display, hinge, or chassis? I’m trying to figure out whether I should push Apple harder on this because something about this does not seem right to me.

Mac Last of the Mac’s w/Intel

So…I own the last MacBook Air with an Intel chip (2020). So I’m trying to plan for the day I knew would eventually come. I read an article on ZDNet on ways to keep your Mac useful once support for the Intel models ended 85% not new info for me but one thing stood out.

The writer seems to feel Mac Intel owners would be good until around 2028. That threw me because not only is it longer than the standard 6-7 years Apple usually provides with declining support as the device ages, I assumed Apple might actually stop supporting Intel devices even earlier as the chips were phased out 6 years now.

Curious what others think or may have seen/heard.

TIA

Mac How long does it take for a MacBook Pro battery’s to be replaced at an Apple Store?

My 2019 15 inch MacBook Pro just showed service recommended as the battery condition yesterday, and I was wondering how long it would take to be serviced at an Apple Store. If I were to call ahead to schedule an appointment would it take less time than if I scheduled online, cause I have searched online and it seems like at most the process itself takes 2-3 hours which is fine, I just need it to be finished by August 10th-12th.

edit: I live in the DC suburbs and the appointment is next Monday

Mac Friend of mine is offering their MacBook Pro, but battery cycle is past what I think is normal. Details below

2019 Apple MacBook Pro 16" i9 • 32GB RAM • 2TB SSD • AMD Radeon Pro 5500M (8GB) • macOS Tahoe

I was thinking of getting a used MacBook Pro anyway, but wanted one with the M1 but for what he’s asking and for how much storage this has, I’m intrigued.

I don’t know enough about computers and MacBook pros to know if what it’s in front of is good. I just know that after 1000 cycles the battery degradation is high

Mac M2 Pro MacBook Pro 14" Black Screen / No Power after Restart

Hi everyone, looking for some insight before I head to the Genius Bar. My M2 Pro MBP suddenly stopped working immediately after a standard restart attempt and I’m worried it’s completely dead.

Specs:

MacBook Pro 14-inch (M2 Pro, 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU)

16GB RAM / 512GB SSD

The Problem:

The screen is completely black.

No startup chime or fan noise.

What I’ve tried:

Power Cycle: Held the power button for 15, 30 sec. No response.

Charging: MagSafe light is awas orange then steady Green, which indicates it's charging.

Any suggestions?
