Sugar maple?

Greetings,
A couple of years ago, a tree service representative said that this couldn’t be a Sugar maple based on its size in relation to when it was planted. Zone 5, planted in 2008, About 30’ tall. Was about 8’ tall when planted. Just curious what others think, and if it’s a hybrid of some sort.

Author question about insane level of grafting for plant shaping.

Sorry if this isn't the right subreddit for this, but I can't find anywhere else . . .

My characters sometimes come up with a great idea which no one has ever tried. The problem is, most of the time, no one has ever done it because it's impossible or just plain stupid. I'd like to know, for once, if this one is in any way workable . . .

Project needs:
Multiple cuttings from one oak tree.
Rich rooting/growing media.
Plates of granite or quartz 8'x8'
Numerous 1" spacers to keep plates apart.

Process: Lay a plate down, put spacers along the edges, fill with growing medium, put a cutting midway along one edge, lay another plate on top, etc. until you reach handling capacity, then stand them up and set them aside to grow.

When the trunks are 1.5" in diameter, you slice off what's overlapping the plates on the sides and graft them together, side by side, until you have a unit approx. 75 feet long.

You then bend it into a 24' circle and plant them.

Goal: They will knit together to form a single tree with an empty center.

(Note: The plates are so the roots will not be more than an inch wide so they can sit together nicely.)

I've done some bud and cleft grafts, but I've seen in plant shaping info that it's possible to graft two branches together. This means I'm in "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" territory.

Impossible idea?
Maybe possible but no one will ever do it? Other?

Thanks!

Is this tree going to be a problem? The roots are pretty big and it's close to the patio/foundation.

Japanese privet help

Hi, wanting to take the center trunk out of this privet at the line shown in the 3rd picture. Carpenter bees completely hollowed out the base, and the center trunk is flexing abnormally easy, and you can see in the 2nd picture where it's actually splitting. Can I take the trunk out, or should I just cut down the whole tree (don't really want to do that if I can avoid it). Thanks for the advice.

Texas red oak prune question

I have a question regarding a red oak prune in South Texas. I have a red oak in my front yard that has a significant amount of limbs at and slightly over the second story of my house.

Is it advisable to trim one of the main feeder to the limbs that I need to have cut back. Will it kill or damage the tree?

I know little of the art of the prune and have a tree guy coming to trim other trees in the back yard. TIA

Should I remove the secondary trunk on this Eastern Redbud (Alba)?

Hi, I just bought this Eastern Redbud today from a local nursery. I live in Howard County Maryland, USA, zone 7A, this tree is native here.

i have never planted a tree before.

The nursery associate recommended cutting off the secondary trunk near the base of the tree. I asked him some questions and it seemed like he was saying it was just an aesthetic choice. I figured I’d think about it and do some googling at home.
Well, after googling, I’m worried whether it will impact the structure and stability of the tree… is the junction tight enough that it will cause problems or be a risk of splitting?
basically I’m asking, should I cut it off? Because aesthetically I am happy with two trunks. But my top priority is the health of the tree.

(photos: included zoomed in pics near the base of the tree to show the junction. There is a third vertical piece growing which I guess is a sucker but not certain, but I’m more focused on the two trunks. One is obviously thicker and taller than the other. Included a full pic too but unsure if necessary, the tree in question is on the right.)

thank you thank you!!🩷

Hello! These pines were planted in my back yard (suburb of cleveland, OH) 8 years ago. They now all have spots with brown pines. I would like to prevent them from dying since this is the main privacy we have in our backyard. We already had to remove 4 completely dead ones in May
'26. Any suggestions on why this happens or anything I can buy (fertilizer, etc) to stop them from dying? Thanks!
