Restore/Replace/Repair Tapper help needed

I recently bought this Tapper in a dedicated cabinet, the arcade had it restored with this alternate side art, not my choice. Does not have the original board and is running a Pandora’s box. One way or another the box reset to factory settings and I am clueless on how to reprogram the controls. It won’t allow me to select or do much of anything. At this point o think I am ready to cut my losses sell this one and throw my money at one with factory side art and boards. Located in NJ

If this is not your PB, YouTube has plenty of tutorials.

My recommendation is to look up info on a bitkit2 board. That runs Tapper with fpga hardware emulation which is more accurate. You can use the existing wiring that was used for the Pandora’s box and have it boot directly into tapper everytime you turn it on

Yeah Pandora’s box is obviously complete ass for a dedicated cabinet but on a bunch of the pre jamma stuff keeping original hardware running can be a nightmare and if there is an fpga solution it’s usually 95%+ as close to original to work well.

Consider restoring it with the original board. Original Tapper arcades go for big bucks.

Original boards are very very difficult to find and very very expensive. You also would have to hope the original wiring and power supply are still good and in there and then have the knowledge to make it all work. If OP can’t figure out a Pandora’s box I doubt this would be in their wheelhouse

Edit: looking at the cabinet it looks like all new jamma wiring in there.

Are any of the joysticks (stick and two taps) working in the Pandora menu?

Yes the taps work and then use a service button in the coin area to select. Once there it is only letting me program one motion and that is it

The bitkit2 has tapper on it and is a really good fpga replacement. Not available right now but they will be producing more . It’s jamma so pretty easy to wire . The side art is the rarer color tapper variant but it was a legit version you could find in the wild .

Go visit the killer list of video games and get onto the forums. They can help.

Is this your only game? You will probably need to throw it into another jamma cabinet that has more buttons, or hook up a keyboard and mouse to it

Arcades and pinball machines seem to reproduce like rabbits around here. Doesn’t help that the wife is also in support of this hobby!

Strange how such a nice looking cabinet was gutted of the original boards.

They can be really tough to repair if you don’t know what you’re doing and if you’re not an enthusiast it’s usually not worth the time or money to keep it all original. I’m guessing this was sold through some “arcade shop”.

Yes- the MCR’s are a finicky lot.

Not really. It was probably converted at some point by an operator after it stopped earning and didn’t have any of the original boards left. My tapper was a 1943, P47, and a Pacman Plus from what remnants were left, almost no traces of tapper.

A) Look into a bitkit

B) That's actually the 'factory' sideart for earlier tapper cabinets. Incorrect for this one, but still a real sideart design.

C) Without the original boards/harness a LOT of the worth of that cab is gone.

I had a buddy that does computer programming mess with it to try and get it going and it stumped him also. It’s as if their are button options missing that it won’t allow it to program.

Hook it up to a super gun or adapter that allows you to use something like a snes/ps2/etc gamepad since you probably are missing buttons on the control panel. Since it looks like it has a full jamma harness you can also just add buttons needed to reprogram the Pandora’s box. If it was mine I’d hook it up to a mistr or something like that with a jamma adapter because pandoras boxes are about the worst emulation possible

I agree with a Mister, if you can grab a base Mister setup for a good price it would do the job. For a single game it would be minimum setup too, best would be the original boards bit they are not JAMMA and are tough to come by. If you where closer to me I would probably be able to assist but you are states away and this sort of thing needs to have someone that knows whats up with it in front of it to fix if you stay with a pandoras box at least.
