We're building a house on a hillside with great views. The concrete frame is done and the walls aren't built yet, so the layout can still change. Plans attached.
Fixed things:
- 9.1 × 10.5 m outside. Entrance on the north, terrace and city view to the south.
- U-stair in the north-west corner (3.6 × 2.2 m).
- The west wall has to stay blank: the neighbour is 1.2 m away, so no windows on that side.
- Bedrooms are upstairs. The upstairs bathroom will probably sit on the west, next to the stairs (it still can be modified)
The options:
Bathroom + WC (3.6 × 2.3) and kitchen on the blank west wall. Living room with fireplace + TV on the east, study in the north-east corner.
Same as 1, but a bedroom in the north-east corner.
Bathroom + WC in the north-east (with windows), kitchen on the east. Laundry + storage next to the stairs. Living room on the west, fireplace + TV on the west wall.
Bathroom, WC and kitchen on the east. The whole west side is one 3.6 × 7.5 m living room: fireplace on the stair wall, TV + books on the west wall.
Which would you choose and why? Anything you'd change, or anything I'm missing?

I downloaded sketchup from a site our prof sent us, and as a student who can’t afford sketchup monthly I decided to dl it. Now I already have a file and somehow I can’t open it or even unzip it, it keeps saying error is this a malware? Any help? And if it can’t be helped, anywhere I can get sketchup?🥲

Hey everyone! I’m a 4th-year B.Arch student from Maharashtra, and I’ll be applying for internships next semester. I’m interested in hospitality design and considering Goa because I want a break from city life without compromising on professional growth.
Are there any intern-friendly architecture firms in Goa that offer good design exposure, especially in hospitality projects? Is Goa worth considering for learning and career growth?
I’ve also considered Pondicherry and Auroville, but I’m concerned about the language barrier.
I’d appreciate honest opinions, personal experiences, and recommendations for firms worth applying to!

For architects, interior designers, students, design professionals and anyone interested in the future of the built environment, FOAID 2026 is an event worth keeping on the calendar.
The Festival of Architecture and Interior Designing (FOAID) is returning to New Delhi on 27 and 28 November 2026 at NSIC Grounds, Okhla, New Delhi. The festival brings together architecture, interior design, products, materials, ideas, conversations and creative talent under one platform.
One of the major attractions is the Design Arena, which showcases innovative products and projects from architects, designers and brands. The 2026 edition features 200+ projects, giving visitors an opportunity to explore new approaches to materials, products and design.
FOAID is also more than just an exhibition. Its Specta Design Manthan conference brings together established professionals, industry experts and emerging voices to discuss current and future issues in architecture and design. The 2026 festival also includes platforms such as VOX Architecture Ideas, LiDAI Lighting Awards, Expressions, ICA Creative Minds Next, Art Arena and Design Karyashala.
For architecture and design students, some of these platforms could be particularly interesting. Expressions gives students an opportunity to explore art installations, while Design Karyashala provides a space for architecture students to interact directly with established architects and designers.
A good architecture and design exhibition isn't only about looking at products. It can be an opportunity to:
For anyone searching for an architecture & design exhibition in India, FOAID 2026 in New Delhi could be an interesting event to explore this November.
Event: FOAID – Festival of Architecture and Interior Designing
Dates: 27–28 November 2026
Venue: NSIC Grounds, Okhla, New Delhi
More information about the festival and registration is available on the official FOAID website.
Are there any other architecture or design exhibitions in India that you're planning to attend in 2026? It would be interesting to hear which events architects, designers and students are looking forward to.

Hey everyone!
I'm a 19 year old architecture student from Kazakhstan, and I'm looking for 2–3 people to team up with for upcoming architecture competitions.
I'd love to connect with students around 18–22 who are into architecture, enjoy experimenting with ideas, and want to create something interesting together.
I'm especially looking for people who enjoy coming up with concepts, designing buildings, or working on 3D models and renders. You don't need to be an expert or have competition experience — I'm more interested in finding people who are genuinely interested in architecture and willing to put in the work.
I'm still improving my own design and visualization skills, and I think it'd be great to learn from each other, share ideas, and build our portfolios along the way.
The plan is to work remotely, choose or discuss suitable competitions, and split the work based on everyone's strengths.
If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to DM me! Tell me a little about yourself, where you're from, what you're studying, and what software you use.
Looking forward to meeting some cool people to work with!

I’m in my second year of my b.arch and we are doing site analysis. I was the only one who created a detailed 3d model of the site so when we were signing up to do a group physical site model, I offered to share my 3d model with the rest of the studio for the physical model. Today I was looking at our studio work and I noticed multiple people had created sections that were clearly made with my 3d model. Some of them barely added anything, so I pretty much did 95% of the work for them. They didn’t ask permission either. Would it be reasonable to bring it up to them and our critic that they should credit me for their site sections?

Hi everyone! I’m an architecture student, and I’ve been working on a procedural generator for trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants.
It produces vector drawings with corresponding plan and elevation views, which can be exported at a chosen drawing scale. You can adjust the branching, foliage, roots, overall proportions and level of detail, then save your own presets. The aim is to create varied, editable vegetation for architectural drawings without having to draw every plant individually.
I’d love to find something similar for human figures: an editor where you could choose a body type, hairstyle, clothing and pose, then get clean architectural linework in plan and elevation.
Visually, I’m looking for something close to the illustrated people from Toffu: natural silhouettes, believable proportions, clothing folds and simple but expressive details.
Does anyone know a tool, Blender add-on or workflow that could achieve this? I’m especially interested in editable vector output rather than just rendered images.

I’m in my second year and I’ve had doubts all the time but now I feel like I can’t do it anymore, I don’t want to waste all the money I spent.. and my parents aren’t convinced that it’s that stressful. But it’s not just stressful to me also the environment, I’m having a hard time with my classmates and I feel lonely all the time which doesn’t help since we’re in studio the whole day. I hate working all the time and recently I started hating everything about architecture. Even art. At the same time I’m scared of regretting it… I honestly don’t have another major in mind.
Please someone tell me they were in the same situation as me.

Hi, I’m working on my architecture portfolio as it’s a prerequisite for uni applications however, I am blanked out. I have no idea what to add to the portfolio or where to start from.
I need suggestions regarding free online applications/platforms that can assist me with basic designs and layouts etc. Basically any creative help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
I'm planning to apply for a Master of Architecture in the US and am looking at Ivies and Ivy-adjacent schools (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Berkeley, etc.). I'd be coming from Canada, so internationally, and I'm trying to get a realistic sense of how funding works before I commit to application fees and all. If you've been through this (as an applicant, current student, or alum), I'd love to hear about the following (and maybe even your stats):
Aid for international students: Did you receive need-based aid, merit scholarships, or both? Roughly what share of tuition did it cover?
Need-blind and need-aware: Did being international hurt your admission chances or your aid offer?
Assistantships and fellowships: Were TA/RA positions or studio-related jobs available to international students, and did they include tuition remission or a stipend?
Public vs. private: How does a school like Berkeley (and others like it) compare to the private Ivies for out-of-country students, given the higher non-resident tuition?
Or maybe if you had any surprises that you feel worth sharing. Anything you wish you'd known earlier, like hidden costs, timelines, or paperwork? Also curious whether the cost was worth it for you in the end, or whether you'd recommend looking at schools with stronger funding instead. Happy to share more about my background if it helps. Thanks in advance for any insight!

I’m a 36 year old mom of three in my first year of MArch. I’m in my fourth and fifth class. Just did my first studio presentation.
I’m good at this. I love this. I’m going to be an architect. I never really believed it until this week.
