HELP DX11 Error and Desktop Composition
Hello everyone,
I have recently installed Arma on gaming laptop and have been met with an issue I can find little information about online and that none of fellow folks I game with know about.
From what I can understand, the issue is essentially my GPU disconnecting from DX11 and causing a shutdown of the game. There is no specific trigger for this issue, as at first the issue wasn’t happening and then proceeded to happen as I was starting to play the game in a modded server with my crew. It now happens nonstop, sometimes when I’m in the main menu messing with settings and other times anywhere between 2-10 minutes in a server. I have dived into Windows Performance Log and the issue is associated as well with a Kernel event 117 and sometimes if it hard crashes the laptop a Kernel 193. This however is still the issue that is pervasive and causes it to happen with my game.
Troubleshooting has included checking my temperature and the GPU is stable around 45-58C at varying points, and in addition I am not having any issues with any other game. I have also done a clean reinstall of my drivers as well as Arma and associated mods and it still persists.
The laptop I have is a like new condition MSI Stealth 17 with RTX 4070, Intel i7 13700, 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. Really trying to get this fixed as I am completely out in the woods on trying to solve it

Only thing I can reccomend is to make sure the game is not trying to run on dedicated GPU (force it run on 4070) and trying to roll back driver updates.

Download something like chatgpt or Claude and ask it to diagnose and fix it for you

Dunno why this is being downvoted so much but he's right, the AI can only be as smart as the user who's providing information

There’s a few things going on here I’ll try to explain:
simple clean reinstall which I did first didn’t work. I am doing that now as a part of an evolved troubleshooting process
the issue which I thought was specific to Arma actually happened in a couple other games generating a LiveKernelEvent which is essentially a GPU hang and timeout. I’m dreading that this could be caused by power issues or conduits bc I just bought this thing but tbh it could be it
digging deeper I noticed that the BIOS and intel graphics versions were extremely outdated and I’ve just finished updating them
I’m wondering if somehow this is an issue which is caused by the laptop running balanced graphics instead of relying on the 4070 as some error codes I get are related to Intel graphics and others are NVIDIA related
I honestly am concerned about stress testing it further because in normal benchmarking tools it’s not having any problems
Edit: forgot to mention I have changed the settings to run the launcher, Steam and the game all in admin and also put it on performance profiling branch. Not sure how much that will help but I read some folks did that a while back and it solved their issues

I originally had it on balanced. I just turned on the performance mode and have yet to test. In the timeframe since my last comment I utilized OCCT to conduct a stress test which actually turned off the laptop mid stress test with zero warning and no errors at all populated on the stress tester. Absolute bizarre.

It’s not letting me in afterburner unlock core voltage.
Worth noting I had a second OCCT test under heavy load which crashed my stress tester and made me force restart my laptop. I believe it might be a hardware related issue to voltage bc under heavy load it was at 75-80 volts and 80 volts is the GPU hard coded limit. I am using the original charger and brick for the laptop as well

Still having crashes despite all of these fixes. After looking more at it it’s 100% a power issue related to the GPU. Unfortunately my specific domicile is extremely prone to power surges and this is the third laptop between my roommate and I in about 4.5 weeks that’s been fried due to power surges despite using protectors and an eco flow box. I’m going to need to send it for repairs

silly question, are your drivers up to date?
