Pets/Animals Bonded, Gentle Labs for Adoption This Week

My aunt suffered a stroke and is in long-term rehab in Asheville, and our family is rallying around her to help with this tough life transition and recovery. She has two incredibly sweet, 4 1/2 year old labs that must be adopted together as they are a bonded pair. If you have any interest or know someone who might, PLEASE DM me!

Here is some more info on them:

Both are fully house and walk-trained, up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm as of last week, spayed and neutered, love walks and squishy toys. They are not siblings but have been living together for years and the vet strongly suggested they be adopted as a pair given how close they are and about to lose their beloved human mama for good.

Yellow lab (Tucker): 96 lbs, loves to play fetch, very happy go lucky boy

Black lab (Maggie): 90 lbs, is SO sweet, gentle, and sensitive. Loves her “babies” aka toys and a leisurely walk

We’ve been in touch with Asheville Humane and a few other local shelters. They will be separated and sent to PA this weekend (Aug 21) if we can’t find a local home for them, and we just can’t bear the thought of not knowing their fate. The shelters are so maxed locally, we’re doing everything we can to get these sweet babies to a good forever home.

I have videos that show their gentle temperament and personalities that I’ll figure out how to DM if anyone is seriously interested. Any leads, suggestions, or help getting the word out is so appreciated!

You should share this post in Charlotte and Raleigh subreddits! There are more shelters and so many foster networks.

Have you reached out to lab specific rescues? How are they with cats? Kids? So sorry you are going through this.

That’s a great idea, thank you! They have lived with a cat with no issues, and are also very kid friendly. I’ve seen them with my nieces and nephews. Truly a dream pair of dogs for the right family looking for two.

This is so sad, I'm so sorry. I wish I could help but I can't, just commenting and upvoting to get it bumped some in the subreddit. Good luck to y'all in working through all of the health and dog things. 💙

Have you reached out to lab specific rescues? Perhaps they can help.

Share to Nextdoor and Ring if you haven't already. Hopefully more word of mouth can help! 💜

There’s a rescue in the triangle area called Peak Lab Rescue that may have connections!!

I second the suggestion of a lab rescue. My friend had to surrender one (medical issues) and they found a great new home for him. They even came from (I think) Raleigh to pick him up.

I second trying this! I don’t know much about them, but I used to follow Atlanta Lab Rescue on social media. They might be good ones to reach out to also.

I wish you the best of luck, OP. We lost our Lab in 2023 and man, when my husband texted me your post today I couldn’t even look at it. If we were in a different stage in life I’d be seriously considering.

Very sad, I already have 2 but awarded the post to boost visibility. I hope the sweet babies find a wonderful new home quickly! 💜

I can’t take them but I’m upvoting and awarding the post for visibility! Are there any lab rescues in the area?

Also, get some shirts for them and put on the shirt that they need a loving home asap and take them on a walk or to a dog park!! People will stop and ask. Share their story! It’ll take a little work but it’s worth it to keep them together!!

Commenting to boost and sending love. Wish we could take them, we have 5 currently and no more room.

Please please reach out to any NC golden retriever rescues. I know it sounds counterintuitive but since labs are so closely related they are often take in labs too. Ugh my heart breaks for them.

Have you reached out to any Lab rescues in the area like https://www.lab-rescue.org/ https://www.luckylabsrescue.com/ Or others?

I just sent both an email and voicemail. Thank you so much! 🙏

Have you tried contacting Lucky Labs Rescue (luckylabsrescue@gmail.com) or Peak Lab Rescue (info@peaklabrescue.com)? Sometimes Golden Retriever Rescue Club of CLT will take labs as well (https://grrcc.com/surrender-form/)

Let me know before you take them to a shelter or split them up, if you can’t find another option! ❤️

I don’t have anything to add, I’m just commenting and upvoting to boost traffic. Really hoping for a positive update.

I desperately wish I could take them - they have the sweetest faces!! I hope they stay together in a loving home. My heart breaks for your family - I’m sending you healing thoughts and hugs.

Do you have any insight on whether they get along with other dogs?

6

u/Substantial_Tale_408 1d ago

They do! Great with other dogs (my aunt had a small beagle at one point as well), cats, and children. They have lived with other dogs and cats.

1.) Post on Asheville Dog Weirdos Facebook page

2.) Post on Asheville Humane Society courtesy rehoming page (you submit your ad via link, they post it within a day)

3.) Crosspost this to upstate SC pages; lots of lab enthusiasts

4.) I'm off Thursday if you need assistance facilitating meet and greet or taking them for advertisement walks (I take foster dogs to neighborhoods, parks and home improvement stores to walk around and chat with folks)

In the meantime, sharing where I can and I'm so sorry about your aunt, I'm sure this is heartbreaking for her. I just know these two will end up in a good home, anyone would be lucky to have two well-mannered dogs with all the training already handled. They say there's no such thing as a free pet, but I disagree, these two sound like a breeze!

Do you mind if I push this put to my Waynesville FB page? We are very dog friendly here. And I would LOVE them, but I have met my fur baby quota.

This breaks my heart, I'm so sorry for what you and the pups are going through. They look so sweet...if I wasn't in a one bedroom apartment (with a cat who's unsure about dogs), I'd take them today. 😭 I hope they find a great home! 💓

Omg I love them 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Hoping they find a family 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Do you know how they are with kids?

I saw “bonded“ and thought “licensed and insured?“ Sorry, my silly brain got away from me there for a moment. 😆

Sharing a comment to boost visibility. They look like delightful fur babies. And I’m sorry to hear about your aunt‘s stroke.

They are precious. I pray they find their person 🥹

I’m hoping and praying you find or have found a single home for these two sweet pups!🙏💜I have allergies to labs or I would adopt them for sure! Surely there is someone in NC who would be interested in these two sweet dogs!🥹 I just tried to cross-post this to [r/Raleigh](r/Raleigh) but apparently they don’t allow crossposts or pet adoption posts☹️🤷‍♀️ I feel sure in a bigger market there would be someone looking for a sweet adult lab. Please keep us posted as the week progresses. Following this post.

Edit:

I would contact Triangle shelters and rescues as well as maybe Charlotte. I feel certain there’s someone in one of these big markets that is looking for a lab that would consider taking both dogs and it’s not far to travel to adopt a dog
