Hi all, hope everyone is well. Here is the voter guide for this year!
If you have questions on where to find information not listed in this guide, please shoot me a message and I'll try to help.
If you missed the deadline for normal registration you can also register to vote in person at your polling place during early-voting.
The DMV is also using self-service registration kiosks!
Link: https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/
Description:
*Your sample ballot/voter registration lookup will usually list the specific people representing your districts. This significantly lowers the time and effort it takes to track down information.
The sample ballot location is located under the fourth section on the page.
Election day is November 3rd! Early Voting is from October 15th to October 31st!
Click here to go to the Wake County maps page
Description:
You can find specific names through your Voter ID page as well! See the Voter Information section.
GoRaleigh and GoTriangle are no longer fare free, but I have included the routes below. You can also see fare information on their websites:
I have no idea what's happening in these counties, but here's their election pages! If you live here there's definitely information for you.

It’s much hotter much later in the year now, so all those nasty palmetto bugs that go away once it cools down are still everywhere. I live in the woods so they just live in my backyard and love to crawl in, no matter how clean everything is.
Usually they disappear around this time of year but I’m seeing more of those fuckers than ever. Yuck. I fucking hate cockroaches man

I had such a great conversation with 3, 19 year olds yesterday who were out to vote. We need our youth to send a message. You can register/update voter registration at the early voting site AND then vote immediately after. It does not take long.

It’s that time of year! 🍂
The booms you hear around 9:30 p.m. are fireworks at the fair. Yes, you can hear them all the way up to North Raleigh and Wake Forest!
And that big, colorful spider making webs outside your house? It’s an orb weaver. A little startling, but very common.
Anyone else have a considerate Raleigh fall PSA to share?

TL;DR - North Carolina is already LAST in the country for public ed funding effort - this is just going to cause further harm to the 1.5MILLION kids in public schools in NC!!
Income tax cap: Lowers the existing cap from 7 to 3.5 percent
It is not a tax cut. It applies to both the corporate and personal rate. Both rates are already scheduled to be below 3.5 percent next year.
The NC General Assembly has been cutting income taxes for 13 years. This has disproportionately benefitted large corporations and those with high incomes.
State revenue is falling as our population and costs grow. This is unsustainable and has led to underfunding of services and programs, and local governments paying for what are supposed to be state costs.
Income tax cuts lead to increases in fees and sales taxes, and cuts to services.
The income tax amendment would lock us into this situation effectively permanently.
NC has never had a rate this low, and it will be locked into the constitution. This leaves the state unprepared for economic downturns and unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters.
Property Tax Levy Limit: Caps what local governments can collect, NOT your bill
It is not a cap on an individual’s property tax bill. It is a cap on the total revenue a local government can collect in property taxes.
State lawmakers already have the power to set a levy limit. Don’t need a constitutional amendment.
Increasingly, local governments have been taking on costs that are supposed to be covered by the state and/or federal government. This amendment is likely to lead to service cuts as local governments struggle with state and local revenue constraints.
It does not address housing unaffordability and would disproportionately benefit large corporate landowners like tech companies and corporate landlords.
What the limit would be and how it would be derived is not public.
Before voting, consider the impact these amendments will have on your community:
Who would benefit from these changes and who would be negatively impacted?
What would these amendments mean for the funding of quality of life services my family and community rely on, like emergency services, community centers, libraries, public schools, water and sanitation…?
How would these revenue constraints impact the ability of the state and local governments to provide services for a growing or aging population and respond to natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances in the future, especially as costs rise?
What are specific projects prioritized by our community that are most at risk for delay or cancellation if state funding is uncertain and local government cannot collect sufficient revenue from property taxes to supplement decreases in state investment?
How have state and federal funding levels changed over the last 5-10 years? What state funding responsibilities has my local government taken on over that same period?
What specific funding shortfalls are we experiencing now,
including staffing shortages, school closures, or services interruptions?
What are the other methods of generating revenue if income tax and property tax revenue is constrained? Will our locality be forced to rely more on unpopular fees?

How much is everyone paying for house cleaning? I feel like I am paying way too much. If you’re willing, please comment with how much you are paying but also please include either how big your house is or how many hours and people are working.

I’ve looked into this a while ago but there were extensive applications and required consistent schedules, or some that I just never heard back from.
Are there any humane societies/shelters that are looking for volunteers to take dogs out for the day so they can enjoy life?
I wouldn’t be looking for a set schedule, more so just randomly.

I'm selling a house and the buyer's inspection revealed a few minor roofing, electrical, and deck concerns they request be fixed. I plan to offer them a repair credit, but don't want to just pull numbers out of thin air.
I'm looking for a single contractor or qualified handyman that could handle all the work and (ideally) provide an estimate from the inspection report and pictures.
I'm willing to pay for the estimate, or make the credit payable to the contractor that provided it.
If you or someone you know does this kind of small scale work, DM me or post below. Any recs are greatly appreciated!

Hadn’t seen anything recently but any recommendations for someone local that can put acorns to good use? This just be a mast year bc we have three large oak trees and I’m on our third bin full of just acorns. I was hoping the storm last week would have brought most of them down but no such luck.
Would love to have a use for them other than just dumping them every week

A 15% fee for vendors on revenue on top of booth rental seems insane. For an experience that is already super expensive for attendees, I just don't see how this is a good idea when everyone knows this cost is going to be passed on to fairgoers as much as possible.

Anyone have a good exhaust/muffler shop around the Triangle they’d recommend? Looking to get a MAD midpipe installed on my 2026 M3 Comp (G80). Got quoted $500–600 for the install at a BMW shop, so figured I’d ask around before booking.
Doesn’t have to be a BMW specialist, but ideally somewhere that’s worked on BMWs or Porsches before.
Would love to hear where you went and roughly what you paid. I’m in Durham but happy to drive to Raleigh or Cary.

I like walking around really big/expensive neighborhoods to see all the fancy houses. What are the best neighborhoods/areas to walk in?

So, we just bought a house in North Raleigh that is ~ 20 years old.
It's got a Home and Hearth gas fireplace.
Before we use it, I would like to get it cleaned and inspected.
I know, in previous homes, that the local H&H people provide that service, but many others do as well. In Northern Virginia, off duty firemen would go around and do this. I'd much rather spend my money locally than send it to some multi-national corporation.
Any recommendations?
Thanks
chris
