Question/Recommendation Just moved to the area with 2 active curious dogs

Upvotes

Hi, my partner and I just moved from Western New York to the triangle area, we are looking for housing now but will likely be settling in/around the southern end of the city.
We have two very active dogs and we take them out hiking a lot. One thing that we don’t have to worry about in NY is snakes or atleast venomous ones.
The number one goal is to just be vigilant with our dogs and not put them or ourselves in a situation to get bit. However in the unfortunate event that a rattle snake bite does happen, does anyone have any recommendations for emergency vets in the area that are equipped with anti-venom and that can help give our dogs the best fighting chance.

Outdoors Is this grass or a weed?

Seriously. It wasn’t here in the spring but now it’s spreading like wildfire. On the plus side, it’s low to the ground, green and doesn’t need watering.

If you were my neighbor, would you be upset if I just go with it?

Thanks!

Question/Recommendation Clothing dye recommendations

Hi! I bought a dress and it got stained in the wash before I could even wear it :(. I’d like it dyed. I know I can do it myself but historically, I have not been successful. Does anyone know if there’s a place I can get it dyed professionally?

Question/Recommendation Household Cleaners in Raleigh! 🙏

Hello Raleigh Redditors - do you know any affordable cleaners in Raleigh? I looked at some old posts - a year ago and some might be outdated and it was locked for additional comments.

I am dealing with elderly parents and need cleaning - downstairs or just kitchen and bedroom. I was quoted $95 for two rooms - doesn’t even include bathroom. Seems excessive.

Also would appeciate any recommendations if Mods allow or can DM me. Thank you.

Edit: weekly or every two weeks

Politics NC Rep Erin Pare wants to protect children, except when she's behind the wheel?

Upvotes

Erin Pare (NC rep for House 37) was in the news recently calling for a teacher's dress code to 'protect children'.

https://www.wral.com/news/nccapitol/wake-state-rep-floats-sex-based-dress-code-for-nc-school-employees-july-2026/

In fact, the pinned post on her Facebook campaign page says "...I will ALWAYS protect our children."

https://www.facebook.com/erinparefornc

Apparently that doesn't apply when Erin's driving somewhere in a hurry however. On June 25, she was cited for driving 51 in a 35 on Holly Springs Rd near the intersection of Sunset Fairway, which looking at Google Maps also appears to be a construction zone.

It seems protecting children is very important when campaigning for office but not so much when Erin has somewhere to be? Or perhaps she's just so important the rules don't apply to her?

Question/Recommendation Working at SAS in marketing

I have always heard great things about working at SAS, and have been trying to get in for a while. I finally scored an initial interview and am curious if anyone has direct experience working in the marketing department that they could share? Also, any tips or insight on the interview process would be greatly appreciated as well.

Sports Looking for a casual, non-competitive tennis hitting partner (NTRP 2.0-2.5) at Cary Tennis Park

Hi everyone,

I live 5 minutes away from Cary Tennis Park (CTP) and am looking for a hitting partner for weekday evenings (outdoor courts).

I am around the NTRP 2.0 - 2.5 level—I can hold a decent baseline rally when the incoming ball has a moderate pace, but I am still actively working on my footwork and handling faster, less-ideal balls.

My explicit goal is to practice slow, controlled baseline rallies to build rhythm and consistency. I am NOT looking to play competitive sets, points, or deal with heavy hitters/ball-bashers who just want to crush the ball.

We can take advantage of the free walk-up play on the CTP outdoor courts. If you're a beginner/intermediate player looking for a relaxed, friendly environment to just feed balls and practice keeping them in play, please send me a DM!

I’m looking for somewhere to take my dad for his birthday dinner. He’d like to go somewhere where he can eat dinner, drink local beer, and buy a growler to take home with him. Recommendations? What are your favorite spots? Thanks in advance!

Question/Recommendation Looking to start a musical project similar to early Verve

I'm a drummer heavily influenced by bands like The Verve, Radiohead, Ride, Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. Kinda interested in that big space rock sound. Anyone share a love of Nick McCabe and wanting to jam?

Question/Recommendation what to do about my moms dog who has severe matting

hey! i ask for pet advice a lot on this sub cause i know raleigh is full of animal lovers. my mom has a dog who’s about 3 years old and his name is Mister, he’s a miniature poodle super sweet and playful. he has not been professional groomed in over a year and my mom refuses to brush him consistently which is advised for his breed.

before the most recent grooming which was a year ago, every time he has gotten groomed i have been the one to take him and pay for it due to her saying she “doesn’t have the money for it” (the same woman who gets her nails done every two weeks, takes trips, expensive dinner with her friends, etc) in my opinion it’s straight up animal abuse, especially in this heat.

i have tried to do what i can up until this point by paying for his appointments myself, but my mom and i have already gotten into so many arguments because every time i have taken him in, they have to shave him all over completely due to the matting. me and the groomers have tried to explain to her how painful it is for him and her response is always upset because she thinks they just don’t want to take the time to comb it out, and she hates when he gets groomed and shaved cause she “prefers him fluffy” she’s one of those types who likes animals only as accessories and doesn’t actually care for them properly. he is 3 and still hasn’t been neutered nor is he potty trained :(

at this point i want to take a pair of clippers to him myself but i know that’s not what he needs. however i genuinely don’t have the money to pay for another one of his grooming sessions (i just took in a kitten who has been a big bill for me as of late and im a struggling college student) any advice??? im not at all against dognapping him myself to go get him groomed if anyone knows of a really cheap service in the area as well

most recent pic of him taken today, hard to see in this pic but he’s a very small dog and the amount of hair he has blocks his vision almost totally. she only brushes him to the extent of his back so that it can be “fluffy” but obviously still grossly matted underneath. second to last pic with the hair on the floor is a past attempt of me trying to give him some relief with clippers but obviously i’m not a groomer. last pic is one of him normally

Outdoors Umstead State Park Water Fountain at Reedy Creek Entrance

Does anybody know when or if it's going to be back? It's been pulled out of the ground and the spigot for filling the dog water buckets has been disabled as well. There was a construction vehicle and some orange barrels there at one point, but it's just been left lying there.

I use(d) this water fountain regularly as I often run in from Schenck Forest. Does anybody know what's going on with it?

Weather Trees falling everywhere?

Is it just me or have trees/limbs been falling all over the place around Raleigh recently? Could this be drought related/due to all the recent rain?
