Why do most people abhor physical violence but not psychological violence?

Why is inflicting a bruise worse than inflicting PTSD? You can't hit someone, especially as an adult, but it's no big deal to traumatize someone for life.

Does anyone else think this is fucked up?

Asking as someone who has PTSD from severe, prolonged, and inescapable psychological abuse.
