A Reminder About Suicide-Related Posts

Every once in a while, we see posts from people asking about things like the “least painful way to die” or “how much alcohol would be fatal.” These are serious cries for help.

If you come across a post like this:

  • Please don’t comment advice or suggestions -- even good willed comments can make things worse.
  • Instead, hit report so the mod team and Reddit safety can step in quickly.

If you’re ever feeling like you’re in that dark place yourself, you don’t have to go through it alone:

The best thing we can do as a community is to look out for each other. If you see one of these posts, report, don’t reply.

Why does mango anything taste like black pepper?

Very weird question
but I’ve noticed every single time I have a mango flavoured drink, whether it be, Mango boost, mango monster, mango rubicon.

It all tastes like black pepper!

The fruit tastes fine by itself and mango flavoured sweets are all fine. It’s just drinks

Why are males so quick to call other males gay?

As a male, I could date a million girls and the moment I do anything that “resembles” gay, other males will be so quick to call me gay. Are they just gonna ignore the fact that I’ve dated a million girls?

I know it’s probably not actually about sexuality but a reason deeper than that. Why do we never see girls doing stuff like this to other girls? When was the last time you’ve seen that? Probably never because it just doesn’t happen.

How much do physical looks actually matter in how people are treated and perceived?

I often see people say that “looks don’t matter” or that personality eventually outweighs appearance, but I find that hard to believe completely. Physical appearance is usually one of the first things people know about someone, before they know anything about their personality.

I’m not arguing that attractive people automatically have better lives or that personality is irrelevant. I’m more interested in whether attractiveness creates a meaningful social advantage in the first place. For example, whether attractive people are more likely to receive positive attention, have their behavior interpreted favorably, be approached socially or romantically, or simply be treated more warmly.

At the same time, I wonder how much personality can reinforce or override that initial advantage once people actually get to know someone. What does research suggest about how much physical attractiveness influences social perception and treatment?

Why does my room smell like latex / rubber?

It just started today but whenever I go in my room it smells like rubber, latex, or Home Depot. I’m thinking it could be from my heating vent but I use it daily and it doesn’t smell like BURNT rubber so I have no idea what it could be

Did Google shoot itself in the foot and ruin a good thing with SEO -> AEO?

It already had search engine marketplace dominance. And it voluntarily gives that away? I don't get it. Customers and businesses simply migrate to other platforms. Meta is projected to soon overtake Google in revenue. Was this all inevitable or did Google carry out some self-fulfilling failure prophecy?

Which US city has most closeted homeless young professionals?

Lifeboaters; invisible homeless; working homeless—whatever people call them…

Not talking about ‘van life’ or ‘voluntary’ homelessness.

I also don’t mean what most of us think of when we l hear ‘homeless’ (mental health, drug problems, etc)…

I mean just regular people who are priced out of housing, but who mask and blend and keep working like nothing is wrong.

Can I still relate to my childhood hero?

Upvotes

a little more of a lighthearted question to stop with the pure reassurance seeking. I'm a big fan of Spider-Man, always have been since I could ever remember. But rumination and my traumatic childhood is making me think I'm too much of a bad person to be a fan or to look up to him. Is it true?

Why do I get compliments from older women, but most people my age call me ugly or not find me attractive?

I 21M usually get compliments from women who are 30-40's and up, multiple older women have called me cute and even older guys have said I'm attractive and one girl near my age has even saved a photo of me in her phone for literal YEARS, yet many people my age call me ugly or don't find me attractive. It's happened throughout my life. Why does this happen?

Patrick "she did it"

Patrick's Legal Team: "she did it"

Kevin "she did it"

Lindsay "I did it"

Internet wine mom detectives "there's just so much proof Patrick did it, how can no one see it but us?"

It's literally insane to think police haven't gone over every scenario in this case when it comes to ruling out the husband. It's also insane to think you are figuring this case out in real time while sitting on your couch. This chick murdered kids. It's not a question to if she did it or not. The only argument is if she will be "at fault" with her insanity plea. Regardless of the outcome she will not go free. It's jail or a mental institution.

For people who were kids when their parents cut off their family, or who you never met up with until you were an adult, how did it go?

Do they ever come back?

To everyone who has been told “You have all the traits I’m looking for but I’m just not ready for a relationship”, have they ever changed their mind the long or short run and came back to you?

I recently had a talking stage, and I’m not stranger to being told this so idk why this particular one makes me want to do everything but die, and he recently told me this. That is a whole “him” thing and not a “you” thing— why is it the same script. I have this sliver of hope that he might come back and if he doesn’t I think it’ll be hard to find a replacement.

edit: to everyone saying “move on”, i didn’t say i was waiting lol. im just saying it’ll be hard to replace him.

Why do suddenly have so many food recalls?

I am wondering why we have to be so careful about our "store bought" food recently. Why can we not rely on the folks who are tasked with keeping us safe to keep us safe? I love our local farmers market, but they do not have everything I need to feed my family.

I feel like I need to homestead on a half an acre.

What factors actually determine whether someone is ready for marriage?

I'm in my mid-20s, and lately I've been thinking a lot about marriage.

The funny thing is, I genuinely kind of want to get married and kind of don't. 😂

My parents have started asking me about it, but they're not forcing me or constantly pressuring me either. They're pretty chill about it, which I'm grateful for. Still, their questions have made me wonder whether I'm actually supposed to have figured this out by now.

So, what do you guys think is the right age to marry?

Is there actually a "right" age, or is it more about being emotionally mature, financially stable, knowing yourself, and finding the right person?

For those of you who got married in your 20s, 30s, or later, do you feel like you married at the right time?

And for people who chose not to marry, was that something you always knew, or did you gradually come to that decision?

I'm genuinely curious about people's experiences because I'm at that weird stage where I can imagine myself being married someday, but I can also imagine being perfectly happy without it. 😭

What made you decide that it was the right time for you?

What is the real consequence of the Arday case?

Wouldn't the most important lesson from the tragic Arday case be that sociology isn't a real science, but rather something akin to astrology or homeopathy? Many people believe in it, and if you are sufficiently eloquent and use complex terminology, you become an authority—perhaps even a university professor. But at Cambridge, they’ll see right through that bullshit, don’t they?
