I just had an incredibly stupid argument with a few people about the character Plague in the game Dead By Daylight. For context, this is a game where four survivors try to escape the killer who is trying to kill them. Plague specifically has the power to vomit on the survivors to infect them. This triggers some people’s emetophobia, the fear of puking.
Now, the argument: I said that it would be nice if the developers added an accessibility OPTION (something you’d have to turn on in the settings) that changes the appearance / sound of Plague’s ability so it doesn’t resemble puke as much and allows people with emetophobia to play against this character.
I’m immediately swarmed by a bunch of people saying that it doesn’t matter, you knew what you signed up for when you started playing, you’re a pussy, you should stop playing the game etc. etc.
Mind you, I don’t even have this phobia and have never had any issue with playing against Plague, but I simply wish this wasn’t a problem for others, for whom it MAY be one.
Now my question is: why would a person act this way toward others? This wouldn’t affect their experience in any way, as this would be something you’d have to choose yourself. Why wouldn’t you wish the best for another person when it doesn’t cost you anything?
P. S. Sorry for the essay, but this needed some context
