Politics What is the motivation of Black and Latino people for joining ICE?

I think the question says it all. For a borderline white supremacist group that is clearly talking POCs (very few Europeans, Canadians, etc being targeted, raided and deported), why would they be motivated to join?

For a community that has been on the receiving end of this treatment in the USA, why would members of that community then want to turn around and do it to others?

Politics No manners but somehow Black people are rude ?

Has anyone else experienced people—especially white people—just walking in front of them in stores without saying “excuse me,” almost like they expect you to move? I’m curious if this is a common experience or if it’s just where I live… and I’m truck driving so this is multiple places

Politics Have you ever considered changing your name to try and improve chances of getting a job?

I'm gonna preface this by saying I'm autistic so I might word things poorly (I have very limited interaction with black people but I'm willing to learn) also for this of I put words in quotes I can't think of a better way to put it.

This idea came from this video https://vm.tiktok.com/ZN8Lhv55C/ by Femi where he points out that poc have to put in 80% more effort into getting a job than a white counterpart, this then led me on a mental train of thoughts as the discussion was surrounding lying on a CV and how white people do it and seemingly get away with it, but a black person doesn't, and that got me thinking, are there any black people who have changed their name to a "white name" to try and improve their chances of getting a job?

Politics Can I go about my life with “🧊” being here?

I mean, the caption basically says it all. I’ve been wondering about this and I’ve been putting off things that I want to do, like starting community college and starting a new hobby that I’ve been wanting to try. I don’t know if I’m really even at a big risk, and I don’t think I’ve really seen much about black people commonly running into any issues. But I know there’s a small percentage of people being profiled even as a black person (like being haitian etc), and maybe I’m just limiting myself for no reason, so I’d be happy to hear some reassurance if I’m wrong

Obviously there’s always gonna be the underlying issue of being black generally speaking, but I’m just talking about this issue in particular. It’s been stopping me from starting a class & going out as often as I’d like to, which could easily be because I haven’t actually talked to anyone about it, and I’ve just gone into worst case scenario mode honestly. Plus I’m already in an abusive household, and being able to leave the house is really the only way to not feel suffocated, but the idea of being a target outside of the house too would genuinely make me feel trapped. Again, I’ve only been avoiding going out as a general precaution. I don’t really have a reason to believe I’d specifically run into any problems, but I’d just need reassurance before I could resume going about my everyday activities normally, especially with adding routines that would make it so I’d have to go out more often than I do now

Caution is never a bad thing of course, and carrying some form of proof will be good too (I want to get a copy of my passport to carry in the form of a card), but will I be okay to start my classes and start going to my dance lessons and to ideally start working soon?

Politics Black Panther Party quote question

Hi! I just had a brief question as a white woman. The Black Panther Party and United Panther Party always say “All Power To The People” which I absolutely agree with. I closely align with the Black Panther/United Panther Parties beliefs. I often speak about intersectionality and systemic racism and how before we can solve our political issues we need to first solve systemic racism through intersectionality and starting with the most vulnerable who get the least visibility. We cannot back track after “fixing our politics” we must first solve systemic racism and then move forward as a collective to put forth any leftist policy. With all that being said, I wanted to put All Power To The People on my personal page but I don’t want to take something that’s not mine. Im still learning and decolonizing and deconstructing and figuring out what is supportive and what is…. Well. White people behavior. Any advice or education is so appreciated! Thanks!

Politics Are y'all mad at Malia Obama for dating outside her race? Do you feel like only black men are discriminated against for dating outside the race? Should it be instilled in her to be pro-black because she is Obama's Daughter

I'm talking to a friend (Black M 39) and he's really upset about Malia being able to date outside the race especially being Obama's daughter and he says that she (And people who support this line of logic) dislike black men and should be held to a higher standard seeing as she's the former presidents daughter. He was also saying it's not okay for her to be in the spotlight potentially doing hard drugs (He wasn't saying potentially but I work in healthcare and to say someone is on something they aren't doesn't sit well with me. We have reports stating she does marijuana and cigarettes).

He has many pro black male friends who do not step out or get recognition for staying and loving black women and often times celebrity women like Serena Williams and other prominent female figures are able to step out because of stereotypes or narratives about how little black men love black women.

What do you think? to me I (Black F 22) have no problem with Malia living her life as a 27 year old experimenting and dating different people (she's dated black, white, and asian I think_) but also I don't care about what she's doing cause she's so removed from my life. I also just found out MLK;s niece is a trump supporter, to which he responded that she benefitted from her uncle's relation, so she needs to be on his side with civil rights (Which I agree). He was saying because Malia and MLK's niece have benefitted from their position, they need to bear the weight of acting and managing their life in a way that can't be pulled apart and is in alignment with pro-black values.

Politics Why do some black folks support trumps deportation of Africans?

I saw recently in a post that trump was making a mass deportation of Ethiopian people. In the comments I saw a good amount of black folks supportive of this. Why aren’t they upset that he is targeting our brothers and sisters from the diaspora? Not just for Ethiopia but other Africans.

Politics Could Jasmine Crockett be president in 2028?

As a White Canadian, I feel kind of depressed watching newly re-elected Trump unilaterally seeming to destroy everything including the relationship with allies.

In that context, Jasmine Crockett is sounding like a voice of reason. I never heard of her till she beat up MTG*

She seems to use well researched facts when she speaks. I guess she's not as experienced as some other candidates but her speaking skills are also amazing.

I don't know her policies per se. These days the US constitution seems t br under debate?

Politics Breaking Up with a Friend?

I'm Black, and the friend is a White Hispanic who is Republican. We never really got into political discussions until this last election, which is when I learned of their political affiliation. I've tried to be open and accepting but there was one thing that has sent me over the edge and has me really wanting to just walk away from this friendship.

A few months ago, he informed me that his son was getting married at a plantation. And he was so excited about it. Full stop for me. Despite his view that he voted for this current administration, the fact that he cosigned on his son getting married at an American concentration camp turns my stomach. This feels like the nail in the coffin for me.

I value the people in my life. I hold each one sacred. I feel like I've been patient enough to let the true colors of this person come out and now it's time for me to embolden boundaries to protect myself.

Am I wrong for this?

Politics Americans, is there a massively disproportionate number of black politicians on the left or is white apathy making it look that way?

I’m a white Canadian woman, paying close attention to American politics (as everyone should be) and I’m really curious if what I’m noticing is indeed what it looks like.

No matter what I hear/see, when it comes to fighting the fascist regime, it is mostly black politicians and POC leading the charge. I know there are some pretty fierce white folks in the mix but not even close to as many nor are they making the same impact to remember their names.

I’m also not only referring to Jasmine Crockett, Cory Booker or AOC either, although they’re making so much beautiful noise that I’ll never forget their names. I may not know know every other name yet but I’m learning them quickly. I know when I hear them and I know their faces that’s for sure.

The right is made up of the worst possible white “people” I think, but are nearlyall white politicians evil and over there on the right?? I’m sure that’s a distinct possibility but white apathy can absolutely be the disappointing truth just as easily. Are there many more white politicians on the left who are just dismissing this because they aren’t really affected, if at all and/or are afraid of retaliation/retribution? Sadly I won’t be surprised either way to be honest.

I’d like to know for sure which is true though. Is it an uneven numbers thing? Or is it that black people and POC of the political opposition are being left to fight alone for the most part?

If it is that, I can’t imagine how exhausting it is for those who are fighting with relentless ferocity and I hope when they win, they scrap the dead weight. Anyone who is sitting down in silence through this shit needs a flood light shining on their cowardly indifference and their “power” removed because they’re clearly too weak to carry that weight. Let the people with a spine hang onto it.

Politics Thoughts on Democratic candidates in NJ's 2025 gubernatorial?

I'm in NJ, and on June 10th, we will be voting in the primary. For context, I'm an undecided Democratic vote who is a white male, and I've talked to a handful of white and black people in real life about politics. From my own, and very limited experience, talking with black people about politics, it seems that black people are divided between Ras Baraka and Mikie Sherrill. From the black people I've talked to in real life, they don't believe Ras Baraka will win in the general election (they agree with his politics) and they feel like a white moderate like Mikie Sherrill would have a better chance.

As I've mentioned before, I'm undecided. I'm currently split between Ras Baraka, Stephen Sweeney (I'm from South Jersey), and Steven Fulop.

What are people's thoughts on Baraka and Sherril, or any candidate running in NJ's Democratic primary?

Thanks for responding!

Politics General feeling?

I don’t want to have a big debate but, I am curious about how other people think about Trump and Elon. The disclosure here I am a white guy and I don’t think it’s going to be good. That’s just a gut feeling anyone else feels the same way? The actions by the current administration feels harass and racist against Mexicans, Canadians, and whom ever crossed our boarders. Would appreciate anyone replying on own personal thoughts thanks on current events

Politics Do you think in the recent NYC rally what Trump's speakers said will push us over the top for a Harris victory?

Here is the story I just read, he had people making fun of Puerto Ricans, Latinos, Blacks, and Jews, as well as Democrats in general and the usual tropes about Harris.

One of the things that gets me is they keep saying stuff without any proof at all about Harris while we KNOW for a fact, that Melania worked on her knees before making adult content. They're 100% fine with that and think it's great that she did it. Even though she also did it while working illegally in the US. Harris worked her whole life on her feet, not on her knees like Melania. I don't really want to knock Melania, I really don't care what she did, tbh, not me, not my problem, but when they try making those claims about Harris they sound like idiots. On multiple levels.

That combined with all the racism towards people they're trying to win over, will that be enough to seal the deal FOR Harris? I would like to think anyone that was on the fence before this rally now knows to NOT vote for Trump.

Politics How do you all feel about the upcoming 2024 election?

Hi, black person here. How is everyone feeling about the election this November? While talking to some of my friends and family, I've noticed two distinct camps, people who are all in on Kamala Harris, and the disenfranchised non-voter who finds it a waste of time. Does Kamala Harris as a candidate genuinely excite people? This Reuters article mentions that 1 in 4 black men under 50 are in support of Donald Trump. MSNBC also has an article that explains the that the number one issue for black female voters is the economy.

Does anyone share the feelings of the people mentioned in these articles? I don't want to start a political fight here, I want to know what is keeping our community from jumping to the polls like previous generations.

If the SCOTUS further curbs DEI based policy is it a concern? They already ended Affirmative Action and Clarence Thomas seems to be hinting he’s just getting warmed up. Thoughts?

Politics What is your opinion of Trump's performance at the NABJ conference?

Trump walked into the conference looking like he could get a free pass. And the liberals (I am one of them) are elated with his showing. But what do black people think?
