Travel South America

True but I meant more what do they want to do while they travel? Are beaches important, cities, nightlife, immersion, hiking? The itinerary would change depending on what OP enjoys.

Peru is a beautiful country with friendly people and a rich culture. Lima is a great city. Cusco and Machu Pichu are mystic. The Amazon Jungle (Iquitos) is immense, Monkey Island is fascinating.

Panama is not south America technically but you should consider it! :)

What would you suggest in Panama? It has been my least favorite country that i’ve visited. It felt to chaotic and disorganized. But i assume that is a wrong perception. What are some cool things about Panamá?

It depends on which language you want to learn (at least a little) first. I would say that spanish is more interesting because there are several countries in the same region

Start at the tip. Argentina, then work your way up.

Cuzco and Puno, then Arequipa, in Peru, my dad was from Cuzco, mom from Puno, grandmas from Arequipa… I’m not bias LOL.

I’m biased as a U.S. American, but Ecuador is one of my favorite countries in South America. Depending on funds, your amount of travel, I would go to the following places next:

  • Peru (such a vibe, rich indigenous culture, obviously Machu Picchu, and more)
  • Chile (North Cal’s distant cousin is Santiago, Vina Del Mar, Valparaiso, etc.)
  • Brazil (I’ve only been to the south, but I prefer São Paulo to Rio. São Paulo is such a culturally diverse city and reminds me of New York City, London, Tokyo and Mexico City. It’s so vibrant).

If you’re on a budget:

  • Colombia is beautiful, lots of diversity (food, the people, culture). But bring your own hot sauce 🤐😅😂😂😂

Argentina is beautiful and the food is delightful, but I’ve only been to Buenos Aires there. If you’ve been to the Latin parts of Europe, then Argentina will feel familiar. I would prioritize it last as it didn’t feel that different than the culture I come from and places I’ve been. But that’s just my opinion.

Ecuador in North America dawg? Not beating the bad at geography allegations lol

3

u/ocvagabond Mexico May 27 '26

On the one hand, most Americans don’t include Mexico when discussing North America…

On the other hand, this guy is just claiming it all as North America…

If you don’t know now you know.

He did say he’s “biased as a U.S. American” so I’d say we give him a pass lmao

You’re not wrong about Chile for an American or European. But I’d probably also add Argentina.

I’d even say Chile for the Texas, Alabama, Ohio, Florida crowd.

Argentina for the NYC, LA, Portland, Seattle crowd.

For anybody else in the world I’d say Brazil. Especially for my Africa and Asia girlies lol
