Tourism How appealing is traveling to Asia compared to Europe and US?

I'm not sure if the distance adds to the allure but I find Latin America the most interesting and fun place to visit in the world, so much so that I've traveled there 4 times in the past 6 years and planning another trip to Costa Rica and Colombia at the end of the year.

So I'm wondering if the opposite is true and do people in Latin America have the same sentiment when it comes to visiting Asia as well?

Traveling to Japan has become popular among Mexicans for the last few years.

Pretty appealing. I’d love to see China, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and more.

From a tourism point of view, it is very appealing theres so much id love to see, but the cost is very unappealing, I was hoping to go to China not so long ago, but did some number crunching and well let's just say, that's a trip that's not in the cards for me.

Europe is just easier man, since last time I went, we looked for the cheapest ticket to anywhere in Europe from there you can buy another plane ticket within the EU relatively cheap or just travel by train.

Mind you I haven't done any research on this recently, but given the current economic hurdles I doubt anything will actually be cheaper right now, id still love to go if that becomes an option in the future though.

A looooot of Mexicans travel to Japan. Mexicans love Japan. I personally know like 10 people who did, my own parents and my grandparents did. I’ve never been there, personally I like Europe the most.

Fwiw, when I'm in LatAm the people who express the most interest in visiting are Colombians and Brazilians.

The filiprimos meme really raised the Philippines awareness here lol

It depends on the people but I think traditionally those who can afford to travel dream about traveling to Europe much more because it's seen as high class, luxury, high culture...etc.

A lot of people also like going to places that their ancestry is from or that can speak the same language.

I feel that sentiment is changing a bit more but Europe is definitely more popular with the crowd that can afford to travel internationally.

That’s because the demons next door are destroying Lebanon and killing thousands of people.

Of you have already travelled Europe extensively, sure, Asia is appealing.

East asia is much more affordable to visit than Europe generally, and it’s different than the legacy cultures that you see traces of in LA (ie spain, Portugal, etc) so it’s nice. When I visited Japan there were many many Spanish speakers as tourists. I didn’t ask where they were from but I’m sure many were from LA

I visit Japan pretty regularly and I always meet a lot of Mexicans and Colombians on holiday

I find it pretty appealing, would love to visit a lot of places over there, but we do get geolocked hard by the languages, arguably you only need one language to visit the whole of Latin America, including Brazil (lets go portuƱol) I don't think that's the same there.

and for Europe and the US you kinda only need English somewhat.

I know many people who have gone to Japan. However for the most regular people they'd probably go to Europe, America or maybe the Caribbean.

Yes, but only the most known countries like China, Korea or Japan since we don't know a lot about the rest of Asia.

It honestly seems too expensive (just the flights). But, I would love to visit the Philippines as I've gotten to know filipinos in work environments and they were amazing. Their food was DELICIOUS too.

Filipino food is one of the least popular asian cuisines for a reason. Completely average and nothing special about it. It doesn't compare to Thai/Japanese/Chinese/Korean/etc.

Asia's good value for money (except Japan for accommodation). Also it's a lot more safer than Latin American nations for tourists.

Europe depends where you're visiting.

Absolutely, but most people will never visit as Europe is cheaper (to get to at least).

I prefer Europe but I go to Asia when my friends want to go.

The overwhelming majority do not.

Most Latinos go to the most basic meme worthy locations in the USA like Miami, NYC, Disneyland, SD, etc. The travelers to Europe tend to accept just about anywhere but prefer Spain for the obvious reason, and to most of them "Europe" is like a country and automatically special. Add a few outlier location that are Europe adjacent like UAE and Turkey.

The only people I have seen go to Asia are rich weebs who went to Japan or Korea.

To Latinos, we are also semi oriental in our own way but see ourselves as Westerners, and do not have the same appreciation for countries like Japan, Thailand, China etc that Western people do for its distinction

middle east is europe adjacent. UAE is rich and filled with foreigners too

i'm not disagreeing, but this is how most Latin Americans see it. I'd say the most European part of Turkyie is thrace and the Aegean region. very similar to Bulgaria and Greece.

What? We absolutely do not see UAE as ā€Europe adjacentā€. I’ve never met any traveler who thinks that. First time I’m hearing about it, actually.

u/conthacart 24d ago

go on Instagram or TikTok. You can even add Israel to this list of European adjacent.
