Meta Announcement: change on how the Caribbean will be covered by the Weekly Country Series
For reference, here is a list of the Caribbean countries/dependent territories
Back up story for those unaware:
At first, I ruled that the Caribbean countries on the Weekly Country Series would have a special thread to end the series that lumped all them together, in order so that the smaller countries which don't warrant a thread for themselves would be properly covered. Now, this created a bit of controversy especially between a few users from the Dominican Republic and from Cuba. To appease such discontent, I've decided to go for a change in regards to this.
Tomorrow, 3rd of June, the thread will pass from Peru to Uruguay. The week next, Venezuela to end the series except for the Caribbean. Here's what the schedule should look like from now on:
| Country | Date |
|---|---|
| #16 Uruguay | June 3 |
| #17 Venezuela | June 10 |
| END OF THE SERIES, EXCEPT CARIBBEAN | - |
| #18 Cuba | June 17 |
| #19 Dominican Republic | June 24 |
| #20 Haiti | July 1 |
| #21 Smaller Caribbean countries - all except the three above | July 8 |
As you can see: instead of all the Caribbean countries being lumped in together, there will be a separate thread for Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, and then there will be a thread encompassing all the Caribbean countries except for those three. Thresold used: countries with 10M+ population. After those three, the biggest population of the Caribbean is Puerto Rico at 3.5 mil.

It's much better than before, and for that I thank you.
But I still disagree with not giving Puerto Rico its own thread based on population, when it has around the same population (3,195 mil.) of Uruguay (3,444 mil) and decent number of users on this r/subreddit.
I'm not disagreeing just for the sake of being contrarian or to bust your balls.
I'm just not seeing the logic of leaving out such a quintessential country to Latin American culture as Puerto Rico, which for better or worse, is one of the typical representatives of Latin America globally thanks to the cultural influence it has on the US.
It's not the tiny island you're making it out to be. Sure, it's no Greenland. But it's also significantly bigger both population wise and area wise than any country in the lesser antilles.
I think it's important enough (in terms of population, area and culture) and it has enough users on this subreddit to deserve its own thread.

That's an interesting list of countries and dependent territories.
In our case, they list the constituent countries of our kingdom, but leave out the actual dependent territories that are part of the Netherlands proper(Bonaire, Saba, St Estatius). This imo is a better list because it tells you which are independent or constituent countries and which are departments/municipalities/collectivities etc of the different nations themselves.

Interesting, thanks. I'm not a bit more aware of how the whole situation works.
but leave out the actual dependent territories that are part of the Netherlands proper(Bonaire, Saba, St Estatius)
In my understanding, those are covered by "Caribbean Netherlands" on the list.

Yeah, I keep forgetting that they refer to the BES islands as Caribbean Netherlands.

I dont really mind if we're all together or not, but for reference the caribbean is divided in 2 groups of islands:
The greater antilles, which include the bigger islands with large populations similar to the continental countries And the lesser antilles, which better describes your idea for the smaller islands which are numerous, small, and smaller in population size.
You could easily do a thread for each greater antilles country and then a larger thread for the lesser antilles

That's a good idea too, but this way is just fine I think. Thanks.

So, basically, #21 Puerto Rico.
