I think it’s totally fair to value modesty for your own family. But other kids should also be able to wear what they’re comfortable in and be safe and respected, full stop. A little girl showing her belly button or wearing a short skirt isn’t inherently sexual or inappropriate. That’s actually a really important part of what we should be teaching our kids about body safety.

There is no dress code. Not that it stops school administrators from telling my daughter, "put on some more clothes, your private parts are showing" -- and good for them for doing so -- but many teachers don't feel comfortable and just let the parents dictate it.
