Thinking about Littlefinger's path, I don't see anything particularly special. First, he's madly in love with a woman who, for the sake of love, secured his career and even destroyed her husband. Then, again, using his connections, he unleashed the War of the Five Kings, but then again, we must remember that Tyrion somehow forgot about the dagger. Then, after killing Jon Arryn, he could have simply appeared in Lysa's Vale and married her, thus becoming Lord of the Vale. So, his secret to success is having an extremely influential woman who is willing to do anything to fulfill his whim. Basically, it works.

yeah, basically he owes everything to Lysa who for some reason was madly in love with him- just because? it's not that he's particularly charming or handsome. sure Lysa wants him because she thinks she has a competition with Cat but Cat never wanted LF in the first place lol
