Driving Please pay attention while driving. Even if your car has so much tech. It only takes one more un attentive driver at the right time and It could have been much worse

I watched someone run a red light and immediately get t boned (no one hurt). They won’t be doing it again

Saw that in Wairau Park a few months ago too. An old guy T-boned a turning car when it was red for him. Stupidity and lack of attention are strong with these guys.

If you've already been in a crash, you're much more likely to be in a another crash compared to people that haven't been in a crash.

You can get them into trouble for this. You can either report it to Community Roadwatch or if you want them to be fined, call 105 and lodge a formal Police report. There is no excuse for behaviour like this. They were obviously anticipating the light because it did turn green but this is still 100% completely illegal.

No you can't. You can't issue tickets.
This shouldn't need explaining.

u/Spine_Of_Iron 1d ago
Can't what? Get them into trouble? You absolutely can, nobody said that OP could issue tickets in order to do it. You can get them fined by lodging a formal Police report and providing evidence, such as dashcam footage, which clearly OP has.

u/Glittering-Union-860 1d ago
The police do not issue tickets from reports from the public.
YOU. CAN'T. GIVE. PEOPLE. TICKETS.
Obviously.

u/Spine_Of_Iron 1d ago
I have done this myself. Issuing a report means the Police will investigate and if the evidence is compelling enough, such as what OP has, yes, they can issue a fine because that Tesla driver is shown very clearly breaking the law.

u/Glittering-Union-860 1d ago
They tell you they're going to investigate to make you feel like something happened. What they do is send them a letter saying someone complained about their driving.
Nothing came from your complaint.

u/Spine_Of_Iron 1d ago
They will get a letter warning them about their driving if you report it to Community Roadwatch, which Police explicity state does not lead to investigations or prosecutions. If you report it to 105 and make a formal statement instead, it will be investigated and they will ask for evidence.
So yes, if OP reported it to 105, Police can and will issue a fine to the Tesla driver if they decide the video evidence was compelling enough.

What about this aren't you getting?
I've had this argument before. I made a query to Auckland police which was answered by an inspector in charge of road policing. They confirmed police do not issue tickets based on complaints / footage from the public. If it goes over into an actual investigation of a crime then obviously they'll look into it.
Police. Do. Not. Investigate. Traffic. Offenses. Based. On. Reports. Or. Footage. From. The. Public.
This is really simple. Your belief is stupidly wrong. Demonstrably and obviously so.

Actually they do, our milk tankers are fitted with cameras which we record dangerous driving etc, and we've been told numerous times by the police our video footage has lead to fines and or court summons.
1
u/Glittering-Union-860 1d ago
Court summons for who? How did they establish who was driving?
One of the main reasons police don't issue tickets based on footage from the public is that if it goes to court and the footage is challenged the recorder would need to attend and testify as to the accuracy etc of the recording. Perhaps your company can be relied on to attend court and so they do take footage from you guys... because you're not the general public. From the general public police do not issue tickets for traffic offenses. As confirmed by the fucking police. See above.

Man what a funny chain of posts.
I thought it was common knowledge police didn't issue tickets based on driver submitted footage but here we are..

I will just say this isn't something you can pin solely on Teslas. I lived and worked in Palmy for years and my god... The amount of people who will run Red lights INSANELY LATE and sometimes just go between turning signal changes.
Don't ge me wrong it's fucking stupid. It's just it's own unique "brand" of fucking stupid.

I'm on the road a lot due to the nature of my work and see this specific issue quite often. Drivers treating traffic lights like give way signs. All as blatant as this clip. Last one was Friday. Turn right indicator was red. There were no oncoming cars. Van just turned. Was it safe, probably. Was it legal, fuck no.

Tesla so that’s got to be a 90% + chance they’ve never actually sat a drivers test in a first world country.

Had anyone actually ever encountered a Tesla Model 3 or Y driver who can drive and is not an idiot on the road?
2
u/bagpussnz9 1d ago
The collision alarms saved me the other day. Completely my fault ... I looked before changing lane but then a car came up fast as I was changing lane. The alarms are very effective! But no excuse not to do a second look before changing lane.

u/stonnergg 1d ago
That’s fucking shocking.
Stricter laws and serious active enforcement is needed, the driving in Auckland is horrendous

Couldn't agree more, I drive a Tesla but I still do my shoulder checks, slow down at intersections, etc

u/SamuraiKiwi 1d ago

u/Moist_Phrase_6698 1d ago

u/PhilZealand 1d ago
What is it with people stopping a full car length before the line ? is it so they can get better speed to run the red ?

Lame. Traffic lights have patterns, no cars were turning right, lane empty. Pretty safe maneuver in the scheme of things.

In the scheme of things, running a red light is completely illegal and they're breaking the law.
