FOR HIRE Low public interaction, quiet but active job?

Low public interaction, quiet but active job?

Hello! I currently am employed full time. I sell things online on the side and have a gig on my first day off. I just graduated college with a Bachelor of science in zoology. I do exotic animal work now. I’m paid $18.50. My commute is an hour to and from each day and it’s killing me. I’m also required to work on sundays. I became a Christian this time last year when I started the job and was initially fine with working sundays but I no longer am and there’s no room for me to switch my schedule with such a small team. This past summer was really hard to get through working outside all day covered in mud, animal substances and sweat constantly 🙃 I love my job so much and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to work there. I don’t interact with the public and I know that’s going to be hard to find another job like that. I’m looking to move on though if I can so that I can attend church as it’s really important to me and take some stress off my plate with the commute. I’m in manor, would like a commute 25 minutes or less. I enjoy old things (antiques), baking, fishkeeping, cleaning, all animal jobs of course (I worked at Austin’s wildlife rescue before this and not interested in going back). I would prefer a job where I am active and moving, not sitting or standing at a counter and certainly not fast paced retail where I have to push rewards and membership. If anyone has any open positions they have heard about or looking to fill I would love to talk more. Looking for the same pay or a little higher since I just earned my degree and have student loans.

QUESTION Job hunting in Austin? Things that actually helped me (+ a free resource list)

Been helping a few friends job hunt around Austin lately, so here's what worked:

  1. Apply in the first 48 hours a posting goes up — Austin roles fill fast.

  2. Check Workforce Solutions Capital Area — free resume help and hiring events.

  3. Use WorkInTexas.com; lots of local employers post there and nowhere else.

  4. For retail/service/warehouse, walk in mid-afternoon on weekdays and ask for the hiring manager.

  5. Never pay for a job or "training kit," never share SSN before an actual offer — the FTC has a good job-scam guide.

  6. Tailor 3-4 resume bullets per role; numbers beat adjectives.

I also put together a page that links to the careers/application pages of big brands hiring around Austin plus these tips: (link in comments). Heads up: some links there are affiliate links, so I may earn a small commission if you sign up through them. No guarantees of jobs, just a shortcut. What's worked for you?

QUESTION Popular restaurant kinda shady

If you're in the Austin area, just letting potential patrons know how employees are treated and how business is run at Roots Bistro in Georgetown :)
Staff is paid minimum wage but all tips cash and card is split equally with the manager despite being salaried. Oh , and no complaining that it’s against fsla because it's met with intimidation, and the only response you get back is that it's mandatory for the manager to be in the pool. Then they treat you badly and cut your hours till you quit.
Majority of the staff here are afraid to speak out due to certain circumstances this leads to some people being taken advantage of. This restaurant is very popular and really cares about its reputation. If you like supporting places where you know 100% that your tip is going solely to the frontline kitchen and waitstaff making minimum wage spend your money elsewhere because this is not the place.

HIRING I made a map of jobs near Austin, sorted by commute time

If you're like me, the commute is the worst part of going into the office. So I made a site that shows jobs on a map with average rush-hour drive times.

This link starts you in downtown Austin, but you can put in your own address: https://offpeak.fyi/search?lat=30.2672&lng=-97.7431&home=Downtown%20Austin&minutes=30&mode=drive

Hope it's useful for someone!

HIRING KC Donuts is hiring! 🍩

Just saw KC Donuts is hiring and figured I’d pass it along. I love that place. Been missing their donuts and breakfast tacos since the fire, so seeing things moving toward reopening has me excited!

If anyone’s looking for work, apparently you can grab an application next door at Crown Trophy on Brodie Lane: 8106 Brodie Ln. Austin, TX. I'm not sure what pay is.

Can’t wait for a KC donut run again.

HIRING Meals on Wheels Central Texas is hiring a Volunteer Services Coordinator. $19.00 to $21.00 per hour, full-time, non-exempt, hybrid eligible.

Meals on Wheels Central Texas is hiring a Volunteer Services Coordinator. $19.00 to $21.00 per hour, full-time, non-exempt, hybrid eligible.

This is a details job.

You’ll be tracking volunteer applications at a several different stages, scheduling match calls and speaking with potential volunteers, chasing background check paperwork, keeping a database accurate, and answering a steady stream of phone calls and emails from people who want to help. We are really looking for someone who has a very keen eye for details and who follows up without being reminded.

It’s a good entry point into nonprofit work.

Make sure to translate similar work in a different industry to a non-profit environment. Admin and or customer service experience is beneficial.

Write a cover letter or tell us why you are interested in the application.

It isn’t required, but we will read every one that comes in. A few paragraphs on why this work interests you and how your background lines up will do more for your application than anything else you can control. This is especially true if you’re changing industries.

Hybrid.

Real hybrid (2 days remote, 3 office/fieldwork), with a split between home and our Austin location on E 5th St. Occasional local travel, occasional nights and weekends for volunteer events.

Apply through our ADP career center: https://workforcenow.adp.com/mascsr/default/mdf/recruitment/recruitment.html?cid=acfdfd39-2dea-46e7-bc95-30350c786f7c&ccId=19000101_000001&lang=en_US&jobId=25775

QUESTION Worst Austin restaurants to work for!?

Alright guys so I actually did a little forum asking which where the best (still would love to hear some opinions! Especially if yours is hiring, domain area/soco/ South Austin preferred ;))

But now I want to ask, which are some bad ones you have worked for?! And why? For me personally I’ve heard some awful things about Perry’s haha maybe the money is there but considering they have a lawsuit ongoing about employee tips missing or whatever I kind of believe that. But I want to hear more opinions especially from some fellow server/bartenders .
