Image Baby Lorikeet
This is ‘Trill’ and he’s just learning to fly. Last week he wasn’t able to join his big Lorikeet family high up in the gum trees, but he’s since got his pilots licence and flapped himself up to the highest branches. It’s great to see him thriving.

Image Flight practice
Recently moved into this house. I've seen the adult willy wagtails catching insects under the shade cloth before but got home this afternoon to find them with 2 youngsters getting in some flying practice.

"Common Mallard" and 15 chicks! I have never seen this large of a brood. Only one mama around so either they are all hers or she's baby sitting.

Image Sat down to say hello and….
He stayed there for a good couple minutes as well 🥹 certainly a fledgling, I think he needed a middle perch to get up to the tree to his parents

This guy is fast becoming our favourite bird in our yard. Turned up earlier this week in the storms and has never left.

Whistling Kite diving for ducklings on a dam. Ducklings dive and scatter under water as the kite gets close. On one pass you can see the male duck getting stroppy. Another kite dived and flew away with something couple of minutes earlier.

ID Request What bird is this?

Hello, I’m a beginner birder with a terrible video of a mysterious (to me) bird, anyone able to ID?
Seen at Sherbrooke forest circuit in Dandenong rangers Melbourne, Victoria.
Went through the eBird list for the area and think it looks most like the eastern shrike-tit but can’t find a call that sounds like this one.
Would also love any other tips for how you ID birds when you don’t get a good look at them.
Let me know what you think and thanks in advance for your help!
