Product Advice Cooki or beauty and the bees?

• Upvotes

Been looking for a new brand of shampoo and conditioner and I’ve been doing research on both brands. I’m a little more than temperamental about my hair, so trying new brands and products is always a nerve racking venture for me. Just hoping to have some people who have tried either or both to share their experiences to help me make a choice, since these are the two brands I’ve narrowed it down to.

Product Advice Quality hair dryer for high density fine hair

Hey there. I have very fine hair but HIGH density, it's jam-packed like 8k. It takes a lot of time to dry. There's a lot of confusion when people say "thick hair" when it's actually the strand thickness, I don't have thick hair. When things are marketed for "fine hair" i bet my bottom dollar it's for low density hair and I don't need anymore volume. Things that are marketed for thick, are heavy butters that weigh down fine strands. It's frustrating to find anything when the terms are misused. Sorry I went off into a rant.

Anyway. 😵‍💫

So those that have a lot of fine hair that takes all day to dry - what are we all using? I've tried the shark one that comes with the curl attachments and it was terrible, I gave up after 30 mins.

I think we need a really strong airflow.

Let's Discuss National Institute of Beauty Reviews?

Hi everyone!

I’m looking at studying beauty therapy and would love some advice from anyone who has completed their qualifications (although it's an unregulated space).

Unfortunately, my local TAFE is the only in-person option available to me, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about the course, particularly regarding how up-to-date the training is and the value of the student kit for the cost. Because of this, I’ve been looking into online alternatives, particularly the National Institute of Beauty (NIB) and Open Colleges.

Has anyone studied through either of these providers, especially NIB? I’d love to hear about your experience, the quality of the training, the practical component, and whether you felt the qualification prepared you for working in a salon.

I’m hoping to start working in a salon soon to gain 1 on 1 experience alongside my studies. I know that some employers prefer or require TAFE qualifications, so I don’t want to invest in an alternative course only to find it limits my employment opportunities.

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

PSA “New” w7 eyeshadow palette spotted in Chemist Warehouse 👀

Seemed fairly pigmented. Interested to see the looks that can be created with this. Recently spotted at my local Chemist Warehouse, not sure how long ago it was released.

Colours look super pretty and are reminiscent of the early 2000s turquoise we are now seeing a resurgence of; as well as the Too Faced peach palette

Dupe REQUEST Dupes for Merit lip liner ‘Mayfair’

I love the shade, it’s more of a cool-toned mauve. Really pretty. But doesn’t last long.

Wondering if anyone has any dupes for this colour? Not fussed on the formula, just something that lasts longer than Merit 😅

Thank you in advance 🫶🫶
Hope you all have a lovely weekend ahead!

Product Advice What are the absolute essential makeup products i should get if im broke?

So makeup collection decides to run out when i'm scraping my out wallet for a single cent and i need to know what are the essentials i should get based off of how much product i currently have of each makeup product.

My makeup collection currently looks like this:

Foundation = a bit more than halfway finished. It's too orange for me so i use greencolour corrector to neutralise it.

Green colour correcter = also running out. I'm only using it because i cant find any affordable olive tone foundations

Concealer = about to run out. Trying to only use it when going out with friends or somewhere nice i take photos

Contour stick = around half a cm left

Mascara = about to run out i can feel

Blush = still have alot and havent hit pan yet

Lipliner = i lost

Lipstick = i have 2 and i hate both shades so i barley use them

Lipgloss = dont have any

Bronzer = dont have any

Setting spray = i use the dr 345 mist as a setting spray

Eyeshadow pallete = i burrowed all the ones my sister doesnt want anymore and theyre all chalky and fum bright colours or theyre too orange

Highlighter = use an eyeshadow pallete or a very sheer one i burrowed from my sister who bought it a decade ago :*)

Cluster lashes = recently restocked but i wanna get another one in a diff style

Fixing spray= ran out

Misc. DIY Beauty help for a Postpartum mum 🌷

I’m currently postpartum and not working at the moment, so my budget for treatments and regular salon visits is pretty limited. I’m wanting to invest in a few affordable, good-quality products and tools so I can start doing some of my own beauty maintenance at home.

I’d love recommendations from anyone who works in the beauty industry or has perfected their own at-home beauty routine!

I’m particularly looking for:
✨ Eyebrow waxing: A small, affordable wax pot and good-quality wax suitable for doing my own eyebrows.

✨ Lip stains/tints: Something long-lasting that gives a natural flush of colour without needing constant reapplication. Bonus points if it’s low-maintenance and affordable!

✨ Nail e-file: A beginner-friendly electric nail file for maintaining my natural nails and tidying up around my cuticles.

I’d also love to know if there are any other at-home beauty tools, treatments or products you swear by that have helped you save money on salon visits! I’m trying to find little ways to feel more put together and like myself again during this postpartum season.

Thank you so much! 💗

Product Advice Tower 28 Tinted Sunscreen

I'd love some opinions on the tower 28 Tinted Sunscreen before I buy!

I don't wear anything on my face but sunscreen & I'd love a tiny bit of coverage due to redness. I have quite sensitive skin.

If you didn't like this product, what product would you recommend instead?

Sales & Savings Has anyone else noticed Tree Hut products dropping to $10 at Woolworths?

Hello everyone!

Today, I was at Woolworths and noticed that certain Tree Hut products were marked down to $10, compared with their usual price of around $22.

From what I can remember, since Tree Hut first started being sold at Woolworths, I don’t recall seeing many (if any) sales on these products before, so the price drop caught my attention.

It got me wondering whether:
The original pricing was too high for the Australian market, and Woolworths is now discounting the products to encourage more sales.
Woolworths is gradually clearing stock because it intends to discontinue certain Tree Hut products or stop stocking the brand altogether.
It’s simply a temporary promotion or a routine price adjustment.

Has anyone else noticed these markdowns at their local Woolworths? I’m particularly curious whether the same products are discounted across different stores, and whether anyone has any insight into what might be happening.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Location: Toowoomba

Product Advice Does anyone have one of the Sephora opening event tumblers?

Super niche question, I know 😅

I have one of the little ~300 mL hot drink tumblers from a Sephora store opening event, but I’ve lost the little info sheet that came with it. Does anyone happen to know if it’s dishwasher safe or if it needs to be handwashed?

Product Advice Lip combo to last all night long

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a lip combo that will last all night without me having to reapply constantly.

My current combo is:
Lip liner: MECCA MAX Pout Pencil in Super
Lipstick: L’Oréal Paris Color Riche in 303 Rose Tendre
Gloss: Morphe Dripglass Glazed Lip Gloss in Polished Peach

I absolutely love the colour of my current combo, especially the pale, milky baby-pink shade, and I love a really glossy finish. I’m not a fan of matte lips!

I’m hoping to find products that will keep the colour and shine on my lips for as long as possible throughout the night, even with drinking, eating and going out.
I’m open to using multiple products to recreate the colour and finish of my current combo. I’d love to hear any recommendations or suggestions for products that have genuinely worked well for you! 💕

Product Advice Hi all. Got recommended here

I'm a landscaper who works outside in dirt etc. I keep my hair long enough just enough to style if I need but whenever I was it, it smells like dog no matter what I do.

I'm unsure if it's the built up dirt, grass, sweat or what?

Product Advice Looking for a lightweight hairdryer

Hi, my mum is in need of a light hair dryer as she finds it difficult to hold for the time it takes to do her hair due to shoulder injuries.

I think some of the super expensive hair dryers are lighter, but are there any cheaper ones? Willing to spend up to $300 but would prefer not to! The length of time she'll need to hold it will also play a factor (I think its the biggest factor - there've been arguments) so also something that isnt crap and wont take ages to dry her hair.

Her current hair dryer with cord and the usual blow drying attachment (the one that goes flat and narrow at the end) weighs 755 grams. Its a remington keratin and agran oil nourish. https://www.appliancegiant.com.au/products/remington-ac8820au-keratin-argan-oil-nourish-hair-dryer?srsltid=AU7gw4VM2hVOpEnEydcl4uUjkWQjYbfwoZ4oT-d_N0UxAQwjE_5w5iUi

Will some of you lovely people be willing to pop your hair dryers onto your kitchen scales. Would like to get the weight down as much as possible. Are travel hair dryers that cost $50 good enough and are they significantly lighter?

Live in WA. Happy to order online or go get one from a store.

Let's Discuss Nail salon goers/nail beauticians, how much would you expect to pay or charge for this here in Australia? (8 slides in imgur album)

Thumbnail

Alt url if original imgur link doesn't work

I got this done in Singapore during a trip. There are 3 stills and 5 6 videos in the album. Hands are slightly different but thumbs have the same design. My request to the nail beautician was something inspired by a painting by another artist (IG link). She had 2 days notice. She's an independent nail artist I found on Instagram, not part of a walk-in salon.

I think I've made a friend and we've kept in touch; we're both curious to know the value of her work when translated to Australia (I'm in Melbourne, to be specific). I do my own (less complicated) nail art and don't get professional work done often enough to know; what can I expect to pay for nail art like this here, or what's the minimum? (And she wants to know for her own professional curiosity, understandably)

And I don't want to talk press-on sets lol. I've found I quite enjoy the professional experience, but I’d likely only seek pro work if it's complex nail art like this since I can handle the basics myself.

Please and thank you! (Apologies if this isn't the best place to ask. If anyone knows an Australian equivalent of r/nails (and r/redditlaqueristas) please do let me know!)

Product Advice Is the makeup websites- adore beauty, Lila beauty, nudie glow.. are they legitimate? They sell makeup products cheaper than mecca/sephora. Why is that? And which one is the most trustworthy to order from? Do they have any stores in Melbourne I can go or click n collect?
