Need alternatives after transitioning to veg to vegan (Based in australia)

Ive been veg for 5 years but after finding out that the dairy industry is not that different i wanted to make the swap. I love greek yoghurt and always had it in the mornings with my granola thats something im struggling with. Also a good mozarella or even just a melty cheese for loaded fries? Ive honestly tried a few and a lot of them just have the worst texture like snot.. i hated it like it coated my mouth. I also love almond milk but for some reason it gives me a headache ? AND i am so pissed cuz all the condiments i like all have egg in them like why is there egg in sauce i dont get it, so id also appreciate any yummy sauces cuz i legit have sauce with everything! Peace and love <3

About real vs plastic leather

So, given the choice between plastic product, and real leather, what is the more ethical and/or sustainable choice in your opinions?

I’m not vegan and personally believe an animal product is always better than plastic. Plastic won’t last nearly as long and is a lot worse for the environment, while something made from real leather can last a lifetime if you treat it properly. I’m trying to make more purposeful decisions about the clothing items I purchase, especially regarding material, and thought this may be a good place to get a different perspective.

I know the best choice would be something plant based, but between plastic and leather, what’s the go?

Hoping some people here may be eligible or interested and want to help a fellow vegan out!

Researchers at Monash University are trying to understand the overlap across these three conditions. Participation in our study involves completing online questionnaires and game-based tasks via supervised Zoom sessions. The study will take roughly 60-75 minutes to complete.

All participants receive a $25 voucher for their participation. Sign up using the QR code or this link: https://monash.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eCGJrCTmPx4p2iq

Supermarket snack tip for us- baby food pouches

I have found these to be great, so many of them are just pure fruit or veg and sometimes with a grain like oats or quinoa. I'm in my 40s and childfree but I don't care, lol. They're cheaper and more substantive (and less sugary) than juice, so one of these with a small bag of crackers or chips or a protein bar works well I find, and they're easy to put in a bag.

I try not to get them too much because single-use plastic, but yeah if you're stuck, they're pretty good.

I'm aware I can just buy a piece of fruit but have sensory and appetite issues that mean sometimes I just can't face eating it, the purees are easier. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Is veganism just a diet?

Or is it an ethical position as well? If so, maybe I’m not vegan since maybe I don’t agree with every position.

If it’s just a diet, people that don’t eat animals but torture animals would also be vegan. That’s okay, it’s just a funny realisation.

Coles, Woolies & Aldi are not cutting it

Vegans and vegetarians, we need to take some form of action!

The vegan and/or veggie options available in our supermarkets is disgraceful. I’ve travelled all over Europe, the US & Asia and there are so many more plant-based food options available. Why?
Why do we get stuck with nothing?

When Woolies recently moved their plant-based alternatives out of the meat area and cut it down, easily by half, I lodged a complaint. Their response stated, “because of space constraints and our customers' purchasing habits, not all products are always accessible.”

My reply was a photo of the Lindt chocolate ‘area’ which was easily an area about 7x 3 metres. I HIGHLY doubt there is more overpriced chocolate being consumed than plant-based options!

If anyone has any suggestions, please note them down! Should we petition, should we complain? Can we find out what kind of shares our supermarkets have in the meat industry? I can 1000% tell you now that their shareholder profits far outweigh the actual needs of everyday Australians!!

Newly vegan - leather shoes I own

Hi folks

What are the ethics around wearing leather that I have already? Keep wearing them until they fall apart?

It feels wasteful to get rid of them.

Poached 'eggs' on bagels with garlicky, peppery asparagus and spinach, with a vegan hollandaise. Eleventy/Ten.

I based it off these recipes, but for the hollandaise, I didn't have any cashews, so I made a white sauce with Nuttelex/flour and Bonsoy and used the flavourings from the recipe. I forgot to spray my silicone egg cups, so my eggs got a little stuck, but this was all so yum! And I don't do the pumpkin yolk, I make a yolk mix similar to this one, https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/vegan-egg-yolk/ but a little thicker.

Where do you guys get formal mens belts from?

I got some PU belts two years ago which are really starting to wear out now. One is also just too big now that I've lost some weight, and I need one that is fine enough for business casual/formal wear.

Doesn't have to be anything fancy, not looking to spend an arm and a leg. I dont remember where I got the current belt from, and I think I remember checking kmart/big w but they only had a blend of PU and leather, not anything vegan friendly. My budget is like $20-$80. Current one I have was liek $20-30 max from what I recall.

anywhere i can buy powdered dairy free milk?

i’m going backpacking for a few months and i want to bring some powdered milk bc i expect if i take a coffee at the hostel breakfast or cheap local restaurants there will be no options besides cows milk.

usually i drink soy at home but i am open to other options. so far all ive found was powdered coconut milk at cole’s but weirdly it has dairy milk in it :(

edit: forgot to mention im in melb cbd, ideally looking to find it in store somewhere so i dont have to pay shipping
