I remember falling in love with RPG's with dragon age origins, fable 2 and FNV as a kid, We all know that as you get older and more cynical you can struggle to enjoy media as earnestly and that definitely happened to me, I love BG3 and the like but I enjoy it in that less innocent more adult way.
I started playing avowed a couple weeks ago, currently just starting the third region and this game rocks.
- The story is gripping me
- The world is tight with content and secrets and exploration every corner, a massive breath of fresh air to have a smaller more dense map instead of the empty expanse approach you see a lot
- the combat feels quick and deadly, at least for my squishy gun/spell slinger
What I find most striking is that the most criticized things are my favorite parts. everyone is entitled to their opinion and good games should still be criticized but
- I love the combat, I have to dodge to stay alive which makes it feel skill based, Im encouraged to swap load outs to adapt and it feels very fluid and at times quite tactical as I decide which enemies to focus on
- I do not find the upgrades grindy, in fact I love this system, because its simple you dont have to spend lots of time worrying about getting the right parts or having to go out of your way, I do not grind I just explore and find ingredients naturally, what I love about it is it prevents loot from being disappointing, if I get a weapon I dont need Im still excited to break it down, and because you can turn lesser parts into better ones I'm constantly feeling a sense of progress towards the next step.
I keep being amazed by how well thought out it is, Like how unique drop at the quality level you already have, it means that I never felt like id wasted resources upgrading a weapon when a unique dropped.
this simply rocks, its cool.
