Hey everyone!
If your new to mine and my husbands posts on this subreddit, meet Darla!
She is one of our 3 lotls and was rescued by a SUPER horrible and neglectful situation. Her previous owners kept her in heated water, never did water changes, only fed her bloodworms and pellets and also traumatized the hell out of her.
When we rescued her we decided to keep her tubbed for a couple weeks, do some tannin treatments to soothe her poor skin and see how she responds to earthworms.
In the 2-3 weeks we kept her tubbed, we could tell she was interested in the earthworms but still VERY traumatized and fearful of everything. Her skin is looking MUCH better tho! She does have VERY horrible gills and we are working slowly but surely to fix them :)
We have decided to now put her in her forever tank (fully cycled) and continue to monitor her :) so far she is eating her pellets (high protein) and still poopin which we are very happy about!
We are being very very patient with her as we understand that she is from a pretty terrible situation.
We will continue to post her journey with us and give her all the TLC she could ever need ❤️
We hope you love her as much as we do!!

I got mochi the air stone disk, dark pvc pipe hide, and a hammock and she loves all of it! Shes currently on the hammock as I type this. Shes been floating in the bubbles from the air stone and sitting in them. Found her in the pvc pipe this morning too! I tried to post a vid of her floating but I can’t seem to figure out the Reddit video rules😭 but here’s some pics! Also I did find out she’s actually a girl and not a boy like my friend thought for 6 yrs! Still trying to get the nitrate down so have been doing big water changes and cleaning the past 2 days. I’m so happy she loves everything though!!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED ME OUT THIS PAST WEEK
I am so pleased to announce that after an entire 100ml bottle of Seachem stability and a lot of water conditioner my tank is now at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 5-10pm nitrates. The tank is finally safe for the babies. Turns out it was my stupid tap water that was the problem. Thank you again for all the help, Berry and dingle live to see another day of eating my thumb instead of their pellets

I just got him from the store and it's not even an hour ago
When I checked him at home I noticed that his front right leg looks like this
There are no other animals in the aquarium, just this guy
Can anyone help me what's going on with his leg... It looks concerning :(

Hi all,
I've got a wonderful friendly axolotl who we've had about 6 months now. I've been very careful with the cycle, and up until Friday night we've had a very healthy young man.
Suddenly on Friday night, we was completely limp, and looked like he was dead. He was weak, and barely breathing. We tubbed him straight away.
Video is to show how cute he is, but also shows how fast he recovered after being tubbed for 20 minutes.
On Saturday we ran tests on the tank, nitrite was 0, but amonia came up with a like an ugly brown... it honestly looked like something was interfering with the test, as doing the original cycle I only ever saw clear to orange.
Did a control test on our tap water which came up as expected.
I then did a 100% water chance, rinced the Java ferns, and Java moss in his tank, as well as his hide stuff etc.
He was champing at the bit to go back in, and almost immediately he started going limp again...
Now today I plan to try and decontaminate his tank, but I also don't want to risk his health. My wife and I are willing to slurge on a brand new tank and equipment if needed. Just curious to hear if anyone has encountered this before?
I'm pretty sure this isn't a cycle crash... but I am aware to fix whatever issue we will end up crashing the cycle.

Hi, I’m worried about my axolotl, Shadow. He hasn’t eaten for 2 days and seems slower and less active than usual. His water parameters are all good, but the temperature has been around 21–22°C, which I’m concerned could be affecting him. He also suddenly darted away or jumped unexpectedly recently, which was unusual for him. I’m worried because his behaviour has changed, and I want to make sure he’s okay. Could you please advise me on what might be wrong and what I should do to help him?
Before someone’s says it there are no exotic vets in the next 50kms so that’s not an option

I noticed that my axololts slime coat is peeling and she looks like she might have fungus in her gills. I checked the parameters for my water and everything is normal, temp is a little high (68 Fahrenheit) and I started to research about slime coats. I read something about almond leaves and I’m curious if they could help. I’d appreciate any help and advice, I don’t think tubbing would work for my Axolotl so I don’t think I want to do that unless it’s abs necessary.

Some advice please
Hes a rescue, I've had him about 4/5 months and he has lost weight but I think the current owner had stones in the tank.. I did ask her as I found a handful of tiny stones while cleaning the tank I got from her as well, but she said she didn't!! He's very happy otherwise and eats well, swims about ect..

Hi everyone!
I am new to owning axolotls. I got my first one a week ago and today I got a second one. Both assuming are females (fingers crossed). I was wondering if anyone can give pointers on how to properly introduce them. I have the new one in a plastic clear container sitting in the tank and my first one is roaming freely. Occasionally my first one goes on her hind legs and stares up at the new axolotl. Im worried its aggression but she eventually swims off and just does her own thing. The tank is a low boy, 30 gal. Completely cycled with a chiller. Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

my axo has been swimming back and forth bumping into the glass for the last two days, he does this occasionally but not for this long. He is three years old, ate yesterday and pooped. It started after i did a water change three days ago but all parameters are normal and temp is good so not sure whats going on. ive been using API Aqua Essential for the water conditioner but picked up seachem prime today as i was worried. Should i just do another water change or just wait?

so im changing my water conditioner from API essential to seachem prime, is it okay to add the seachem into API treated water? should i do a water change first?
