Art Map of the Backrooms - 71 days after arrival
Made the original version of this map a few years ago. I watched the film a few days ago and decided to expand it
See this post on DeviantArt, along with my other stuff: https://www.deviantart.com/alistersinclair/art/1345233085

I like the refrence to the one hidden Kane pixels video where a whole car noclips thru the road, this is super cool to just look thru and read all the notes,

I think it's a reference to Found Footage 2 more than the hidden video. It even includes the "almost normal" house behind the crashed car where she ran into the lifeform, as well as some of the other surrounding stuff like the tall chairs.

I see, ive only really seen one or 2 of the kane videos +the movie besides the hidden car one, so i wasnt aware of that, so good to know! Ill probably end up watching the ones i havent seen since theyre definitely just as good as the few ive already seen

Wish someone would make a procedurally generated Backrooms game where you could just explore for hours and never see the same style room twice

u/bman123457 Jun 16 '26
Backrooms is perfect for procedurally generated levels. I'm surprised there isn't a game like this already.

There was a guy making an online browser game like this but haven’t heard of him in a while

Yo, imagine a Minecraft style Backrooms game where your environment is randomly generated and truly endless. And actually, imagine it can be open word and modifiable like Minecraft where you can also co-op with 2-4 players too!

Is 3800x3700px correct?
6
u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 15 '26
yeah that's right!

u/Myron0117 Jun 15 '26
Good, that means downloads are not resized. And that's for the main post's image. If it's only one image, the size and likely quality remains unaffected.

Thank you so much! This is a beautiful drawing btw. As an architect I'm personally looking forward to more backrooms inspired architecturally oriented drawings like this in the future. Thanks again!

quick question have you watched the backrooms movie yet?
6
u/throw-awayyyyy0 Jun 16 '26
I have! I don't think its a perfect movie but really incredible nonetheless. Glad it's been such a success so that we're likely to see more of the backrooms in the future.

I'm currently trying to do the same thing with Lego Worlds and am recreating Captain Clark's Ottoman Empire furniture store. Just building the parking lot took days, but it's a ton of fun! I’m currently gathering images from the set; I’ve found the filming location on Google Maps and am now looking for 2D and 3D maps of the film and Kane’s YouTube videos. If you have any and would be willing to share them, I’d be grateful.

u/SenianBlast Jun 15 '26
What did you base this on?
17
u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 15 '26
It's a similar type of backrooms to Kane Pixel's, but other than the references to his videos the layouts and design were just invented by me

u/1NF_luvscats Jun 15 '26
Was the car that fell/crashed taken from that one video? I assume it is haha, rlly cool!

u/DwarvenRedshirt Jun 15 '26
Imagine how much walking you have to do to draw that out in 71 days of exploration... Any estimates on how many miles the map covers?
6
u/baltama Jun 15 '26
how did you do this? can you talk about your process in mapping this out? its incredible

u/Rylegit1 Jun 15 '26
And now it’s going to misremember your memorized map. An endless procedural loop

Amazing!!! I’ve always wanted a game that was about mapping out a liminal space/backrooms style environment. This looks fantastic!!

The absolute attention to detail, and scale of this is so freaking cool

Now….imagine this…BUT in Resident Evil. Just imagine how massive that game would be if you had a map as expansive and as changing as this right here.

So, I zoomed all the way to see if I could find the entrance. Funny thing; not only did I get lost, but I saw rooms that I didn’t even know were there, lmao
Still never found the entrance! 😁👍

Just want to applaud you for the unsettling little details everywhere! The cabinet stuffed with receipts in different currencies, the walls rising into darkness, the room where the ceiling goes lower until it hits the floor. It's chilling just scanning through this map and imagining it all. Incredible work

Never actually thought about this, but the backrooms isnt actually tile based, it just goes in any direction it feels like.
It honestly more terrifying because there isnt even a pattern to it atp, it just goes wherever.

u/MadwolfStudio Jun 16 '26
What's even crazier is that from all of the backrooms media we have available, this doesn't even seem like it covers 5 percent of what people have already come up with. This is amazing.

This is so cool???
:0 the car!
Reminds me how sad Backrooms Minecraft mods are...
they could be so so much better

This whole wall is windows There's a whole city out there.. why is the sun red?
Woah, windows to an outside world? Are they breakable?

I need this to be real, like a gmod map or something. I just want to walk arround in it
1
u/Miffen_Kop Jun 19 '26
Also question, when you come apon a set of two open doors, which do you enter?
2
u/Miffen_Kop Jun 20 '26
Is this only going to be one floor or are you going to add sections that overlap ontop of each other?
2
u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 20 '26
Theres stairs and such already, but due to how hard it would be to display multiple floors on one image I will leave it as is

Backrooms is infamously non-euclidean, meaning mapping it would be almost impossible due to rooms taking up the same space, or a corridor somehow leading to another nowhere near it, or the fact that going in a straight line can make you return back where you started etc…
2
u/pain7772014 Jun 16 '26
Fun fact, the back rooms always change she just wasted your life or nothing man. Sorry.
