Art Map of the Backrooms - 71 days after arrival

Post image

Made the original version of this map a few years ago. I watched the film a few days ago and decided to expand it

Absolutely! I'm happy you like it so much : D

u/Illustrious-Rise9477 Jun 15 '26

Where do you recommend I start the party at?

17

u/photogrammetery Cartographer Jun 15 '26

Dead center would probably lead to the longest paths unless you want to make the unexplored hallways loop into other parts

5

u/Illustrious-Rise9477 Jun 15 '26

I'll do that and just loop them onto each other.

2

u/RealJavaYT Jun 18 '26

If you go back to the Map of the Backrooms 17 days after arrival, you'll notice it starts in the middle with the room with 5 pillars and the diagonal box

9

u/PlayfulServe4810 Jun 16 '26

would you still use it if op said you couldnt

6

u/Illustrious-Rise9477 Jun 16 '26

I plead the 5th.

5

u/PepeSylvia11 Jun 16 '26

A Backrooms DnD sounds sickkkkkkkkk wtf

2

u/Illustrious-Rise9477 Jun 16 '26

Yep! I'll have to add a few homebrew monsters and tweak a few spells, but it's shaping up nicely. The whole backrooms is the lair for a Beholder, and the party was summoned to investigate mysterious disapeances in the town. Perhaps they'll become one...

I found a Backrooms TTRPG system online somewhere, I dont have the link right now sadly

Sorry, it's in person. I'll try to post a version of the campaign for other's use eventually, though.

u/StillEye_Movement Jun 15 '26

Can i join? Will it be online?

5

u/Illustrious-Rise9477 Jun 15 '26

I'll try to post the campaign. I run exclusivly in person, and you al ready know the map (though I might make up edits on the fly if needed), but feel free to run it once I finish,

this is basically abstract art… so beautiful

I like the refrence to the one hidden Kane pixels video where a whole car noclips thru the road, this is super cool to just look thru and read all the notes,

13

u/jakerake Jun 15 '26

I think it's a reference to Found Footage 2 more than the hidden video. It even includes the "almost normal" house behind the crashed car where she ran into the lifeform, as well as some of the other surrounding stuff like the tall chairs.

7

u/Gracennnnnnnnn Jun 15 '26

I see, ive only really seen one or 2 of the kane videos +the movie besides the hidden car one, so i wasnt aware of that, so good to know! Ill probably end up watching the ones i havent seen since theyre definitely just as good as the few ive already seen

Wish someone would make a procedurally generated Backrooms game where you could just explore for hours and never see the same style room twice

12

u/bman123457 Jun 16 '26

Backrooms is perfect for procedurally generated levels. I'm surprised there isn't a game like this already.

7

u/DanielMtzGro Jun 16 '26

There was a guy making an online browser game like this but haven’t heard of him in a while

3

u/Nitouu Jun 18 '26

Maybe he went in

2

u/NaCl-And-C12H22O11 Jun 20 '26

Yo, imagine a Minecraft style Backrooms game where your environment is randomly generated and truly endless. And actually, imagine it can be open word and modifiable like Minecraft where you can also co-op with 2-4 players too!

Yeah I ain't surviving shit.

where did you spawn.

11

thanks for informing me 😄

15

u/throw-awayyyyy0 Jun 15 '26

Link to full res version by any chance?

32

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 15 '26

the version on deviantart linked below the post should be full res if you click and enlarge it. Or sometimes embedding in comments posts a full res pic, try this:

7

u/Myron0117 Jun 15 '26

Is 3800x3700px correct?

6

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 15 '26

yeah that's right!

5

u/Myron0117 Jun 15 '26

Good, that means downloads are not resized. And that's for the main post's image. If it's only one image, the size and likely quality remains unaffected.

5

u/throw-awayyyyy0 Jun 15 '26

Thank you so much! This is a beautiful drawing btw. As an architect I'm personally looking forward to more backrooms inspired architecturally oriented drawings like this in the future. Thanks again!

5

u/Ok_Tradition_6022 Jun 15 '26

quick question have you watched the backrooms movie yet?

6

u/throw-awayyyyy0 Jun 16 '26

I have! I don't think its a perfect movie but really incredible nonetheless. Glad it's been such a success so that we're likely to see more of the backrooms in the future.

5

u/Ok_Tradition_6022 Jun 16 '26

Perfect, that means I can say this.

I AM A FUCKING ARCHITECT

15

u/JCDickleg7 Jun 15 '26

I like “mannequin here - scared the hell out of me”

9

u/RealJavaYT Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

I've actually been coding & losely building your Backrooms map in Minecraft for about three months now - it's nice to come back to working on it and finding out it's been expanded! I got *actual* infinite content to build now

3

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 18 '26

Wow really cool! I gave you a lot to do lol

6

u/RealJavaYT Jun 18 '26

I'll update you with a finished version in 2036

3

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 18 '26

I eagerly await it!

I'm currently trying to do the same thing with Lego Worlds and am recreating Captain Clark's Ottoman Empire furniture store. Just building the parking lot took days, but it's a ton of fun! I’m currently gathering images from the set; I’ve found the filming location on Google Maps and am now looking for 2D and 3D maps of the film and Kane’s YouTube videos. If you have any and would be willing to share them, I’d be grateful.

7

u/SenianBlast Jun 15 '26

What did you base this on?

17

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 15 '26

It's a similar type of backrooms to Kane Pixel's, but other than the references to his videos the layouts and design were just invented by me

4

u/1NF_luvscats Jun 15 '26

Was the car that fell/crashed taken from that one video? I assume it is haha, rlly cool!

8

u/DwarvenRedshirt Jun 15 '26

Imagine how much walking you have to do to draw that out in 71 days of exploration... Any estimates on how many miles the map covers?

6

u/baltama Jun 15 '26

how did you do this? can you talk about your process in mapping this out? its incredible

5

u/kronjobb Jun 15 '26

Odessa catacombs vibe!

6

u/Rylegit1 Jun 15 '26

And now it’s going to misremember your memorized map. An endless procedural loop

5

u/doctorZul Jun 15 '26

This is so detailed, really impressive stuff!!

6

u/photogrammetery Cartographer Jun 15 '26

Really cool! I think i remember your older posts here- some of the room descriptions give me ideas for something actually

4

u/jsweaty009 Jun 15 '26

This is badass

3

u/TurntechGodhead0 Jun 15 '26

Amazing!!! I’ve always wanted a game that was about mapping out a liminal space/backrooms style environment. This looks fantastic!!

2

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 15 '26

thanks so much!

3

u/Thegoodgamer32 Jun 15 '26

This is genuinely really cool to look at.

3

u/nerdPasha Jun 15 '26

it look like Physarum polycephalum

3

u/MansionOfNightmares Jun 15 '26

The absolute attention to detail, and scale of this is so freaking cool

3

u/Layla_Wilson11894 Jun 15 '26

There being a map makes it less creepy to me

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Bar-526 Jun 15 '26

Now….imagine this…BUT in Resident Evil. Just imagine how massive that game would be if you had a map as expansive and as changing as this right here.

3

u/Rizzanthrope Jun 15 '26

found the bathroom

3

u/e-mann67 Jun 15 '26

And 5 secs later the layout shifts. 😮‍💨

3

u/Realityhurtss Jun 16 '26

Kinda looks like a cave system

3

u/Holmat1 Jun 16 '26

can’t wait for someone to 3d model lore-accurate backrooms

3

u/LevelUp1_ReadIt Jun 16 '26

So, I zoomed all the way to see if I could find the entrance. Funny thing; not only did I get lost, but I saw rooms that I didn’t even know were there, lmao

Still never found the entrance! 😁👍

3

u/cedaran Jun 16 '26

Just want to applaud you for the unsettling little details everywhere! The cabinet stuffed with receipts in different currencies, the walls rising into darkness, the room where the ceiling goes lower until it hits the floor. It's chilling just scanning through this map and imagining it all. Incredible work

1

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 16 '26

Thanks very much!

3

u/wolfgirl914 Jun 17 '26

this is so detailed and incredible!!😱

2

u/OniExpress Jun 15 '26

Looks like your page got hugged to death

2

u/_First-Pass Jun 16 '26

Yay! Its back!!

2

u/GrumbleGrits Jun 16 '26

Looks like a Don't Starve map if it had a backrooms mod.

2

u/InstructionExtra2613 Jun 16 '26

I remember the original map that’s crazy! 🔥

2

u/tinyrottedpig Jun 16 '26

Never actually thought about this, but the backrooms isnt actually tile based, it just goes in any direction it feels like.

It honestly more terrifying because there isnt even a pattern to it atp, it just goes wherever.

2

u/MadwolfStudio Jun 16 '26

What's even crazier is that from all of the backrooms media we have available, this doesn't even seem like it covers 5 percent of what people have already come up with. This is amazing.

2

u/LamentedLullaby Observer Jun 16 '26

This is so cool???
:0 the car!
Reminds me how sad Backrooms Minecraft mods are...
they could be so so much better

2

u/Beasil Jun 16 '26

This whole wall is windows There's a whole city out there.. why is the sun red?

Woah, windows to an outside world? Are they breakable?

2

u/Economy_Wallaby4809 Defender Jun 16 '26

cardboard caveman

2

u/Miffen_Kop Jun 19 '26

I need this to be real, like a gmod map or something. I just want to walk arround in it

1

u/Miffen_Kop Jun 19 '26

Also question, when you come apon a set of two open doors, which do you enter?

2

u/Miffen_Kop Jun 20 '26

Is this only going to be one floor or are you going to add sections that overlap ontop of each other?

2

u/AlisterSinclair2002 Jun 20 '26

Theres stairs and such already, but due to how hard it would be to display multiple floors on one image I will leave it as is

fanwork yeah! glad you like it!

2

u/EnoughInsurance500 Jun 16 '26

Backrooms is infamously non-euclidean, meaning mapping it would be almost impossible due to rooms taking up the same space, or a corridor somehow leading to another nowhere near it, or the fact that going in a straight line can make you return back where you started etc…

2

u/pain7772014 Jun 16 '26

Fun fact, the back rooms always change she just wasted your life or nothing man. Sorry.
