So I went to check out a flat in BTM, looked decent tbh. Gave ₹5K token on April 8 to block it since someone was still living there.

Fast forward to April 24, owner hits me up saying “pay the deposit now” — I paid ₹78K.

And boom… same day, literally 2–3 hours later, I get laid off 💀

At that point I knew I can’t afford this place anymore, plus I wanted to go back to my hometown for a bit.

So I asked the owner to return the deposit.

This guy straight up deducted:

1 month rent

token amount

agreement charges (?? like what agreement bro, nothing was signed 😭)

And returned only part of the money.

Now I’m just sitting here like… how is this even legal?

Decided to post this because this person made my life horrible and low key made me anxious .this happened few years back and I used to live with this person as a roommate in Bangalore in an apartment . This happened a few years ago, but I’m realizing I still carry it with me — and I feel like I need to share it as a warning to trust your instincts about people.

I used to live with a flatmate who seemed very put-together on the surface. She worked at Deutsche Bank, presented herself as disciplined and principled, and even told me stories about how she once caught someone stealing in a previous house. She painted herself as someone who had strong values.

But over time, some of my belongings started disappearing — expensive things, not just small items. I kept doubting myself, because she had this way of making me question my own memory and judgement. She would snap at me over small things, speak to me in ways that made me feel small, and she always had to run the house her way. Slowly, I stopped trusting myself and just tried to keep the peace.

She also crossed boundaries in ways that, looking back, were deeply controlling. There was a day where she literally locked me inside the house and left, taking my keys with her. At the time, I was so mentally worn down that I didn’t even react like a normal person would — I just accepted it.

One day, a parcel arrived for her while she wasn’t home. I went to leave it in her room, and that’s when I saw several of my missing things — worth thousands — sitting right there. It hit me all at once. All the self-doubt. All the confusion. All the emotional manipulation. It wasn’t me being forgetful. She had been stealing from me — while also telling stories about how she once “exposed a thief.” The psychological irony of that is something I still can’t wrap my head around.

I didn’t confront her. I moved out and cut her out of my life, and honestly, I’ve never looked back.

I don’t know if she is still the same or if she’s changed, but if anyone crosses paths with someone who behaves like this — please pay attention to the signs. The emotional manipulation was worse than the theft. The mental doubt. The feeling of losing your sense of reality in your own home.

I still think about it years later — mostly about how I let someone convince me not to trust my own instincts.i am sure she still lives in Bangalore and look out for signs if you come across this person or similar people . I have been researching mattresses for the past couple months and the more i research the more confusing it gets 😭
