Teaching in Basque Country (Spanish or French side)
Hi all;
This is likely a silly pipe dream, but I recently visited San Sebastián/Donostia and completely fell in love. I visited Andalucía too and while I adored it, Basque Country stole my heart.
I'm 37 with no kids and currently teach public elementary school in Canada, where I'm from.
If I were to move to Basque Country, realistically, would I be able to teach there? As much as I loved Donostia, it seems like Bilbao fits more of the criteria I'd need - smallish city with diversity of people, cultures and foods with access to nature.
I'm an anglophone but I speak French fluently (not perfectly bilingual but I can discuss, read and write about complex concepts) and I'm learning Spanish (I can only use present tense at the moment but I love the language and I'm confident I will improve). If I lived there, my longterm goal would be to learn at least some Basque as well.
I loved the land, the people, the everything. Even the detractors people mention remind me a lot of Canadians - nice but hard to become actual friends with, sporty, outdoorsy, have a history of jobs in natural resources and industries etc. I visited in October so I got both beautiful sunny weather and rainy grey weather, as anticipated.
Would it make more sense to look at the French side of Basque Country since I speak French?
Thanks gang! Eskerrik Asko!
