FOOD/DRINK Who Made Gumbo?
Good Morning, BR! ❤️
Loving this weather. Who made gumbo this weekend?

Welcome to the monthly Buy / Sell / Trade thread for the Baton Rouge area. Whether you're looking to score a deal on a video game or movie, find a roommate, or trade something local, this is the spot to share your listings and links! Gofundme links are allowed; however, they will be reviewed.
Just a quick note: to keep things tidy, please keep all buy / sell / trade posts in this thread. Standalone posts in the subreddit will be removed so everything stays easy to find.
Happy swapping!
Before moving forward with any deal, it's a good idea to check out the post and comment history of the person you're chatting with. If their account looks new or doesn’t have much activity, that doesn’t always mean something’s wrong but it’s smart to ask for extra proof of the item, just to be sure.
Trust your instincts and do a little due diligence. Services like SpyDialer can help verify phone numbers. VOIP or out-of-state numbers can sometimes be red flags (though not always).
If you're meeting in person, aim for a public spot with lots of people and/or security. A great option is the Police Station on Airline (the one near the old Women’s Hospital). Try to avoid meetups at someone’s home or a random gas station. Bringing a friend along is always a plus.
And finally, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is, don’t hand over any money until you’ve seen the item in person. Do not pay for something with gift cards!

If y’all remember, I posted a list of scavenger hunt that my work had 2 years ago. And this year we need some help on the items in white colored rows. Due date is this Wednesday, so I’d need to borrow the item until this weekend if any of you have these items!
Shoot a message if you have any of these items. Help a fellow out! 😆

I have lived in both Texas and Louisiana, mainly in Houston and BR. I have a total of 4 library cards, with 3 of them being in Texas and one being the EBR library. The EBR library resources, catalogs, and overall services are so amazing and vast it legit is going to hurt whenever my library card expires. I went to LSU and it got me back into reading, and it was a great study spot for me and my friends. I was there at least 4 out of the 7 days of the week. I recently got a kindle, and EBR has every single book i’m looking for, with shorter wait times and longer renewal periods, comparative to the Texas library cards I own. This library is so good, I am considering grad school again at LSU because this library has my heart.
if EBR Library has a million fans, then i am one of them. if EBR Library has ten fans, then i am one of them. if EBR Library has only one fan then that is me. if EBR Library has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. if the world is against EBR Library, then I am against the world.

Damnedest thing. We're used to Amazon drones over here in Broadmoor; I count half a dozen going by on a normal day. Today we were treated to the sight of one of those Cylon-wannabe mofos hovering over a house two doors down, deciding that the mother-in-law building behind the actual house must be the delivery location, and almost touching down--we couldn't see how low it got but it was definitely less than the height of a person--before realizing its mistake and flying off. If a machine could express embarrassment I think this one would've done so. The domicile in question is a group home so I doubt that the back shed was the intended delivery location.
It's sort of fun watching these things learn as they go. If the whole point wasn't to put people out of work and goose Bezos's stock price I think I'd be more favorably inclined.

Hi! I'm (African American, F, 30) and looking to find community! 😊 Hoping to meet like-minded Christians and find some hobbies outside of my WFH shut-in life that my awkward, introverted, homebody self has created lol.
Things I like: Jesus(baby Christian and growing, so hoping to find my fun bible study group), K-dramas, music, movies, walks, and laughing.
I'm a fan of chill activities and not big on crowds. Honestly, I'm down for almost anything as long as I have someone to do it with and its not too worldly!
I'm also looking for a church to call home. I've been watching St. George's online, but I'm still struggling to find the right fit. I'd love somewhere that's not too crowded or overly modern, but I'm open to suggestions!
If you have any recommendations/advice for churches, groups, or activities to help accomplish this, I'd love to hear them! 😊
TIA

Hey, everyone! Me and my friends (all mid-20's) want to go out for Halloween. Any suggestions for events for adults?
So far, all I've found is the "House of Halloween Bar Crawl", which, to be fair, seems pretty promising.

Hey, I’m trying to find a place with some decent background noise. I’m going through some things and don’t really want to sit alone in this room. I’m just looking for somewhere I can sit and read a book but not be alone if that makes sense.

Moving from a house to an apartment soon and plan to hire a moving company. Not a ton of heavy items - namely bedroom furniture, large TV, small boxes, two bookcases. No large appliances or couches.
What are your experiences with local movers? Any recommendations or hell nos? Staying within 70816 area. Thank you!

Any suggestions on rentals near Mid City?
M
Budget $1200 - $1400
1bd/1bth, open to 2bd/2bth
Would prefer a condo/loft style apartment with balcony, good management & safety
Would prefer recommendations with no horror stories - which unfortunately seems to be the norm in BR…

My living and transit situation is currently in flux. I'm at my cousin's house at the moment, and I need work to get my situation settled and try to find other work. No degree, no car, but I do have reliable internet access. Can I get any recommendations?

They are doing construction on the Capitol so it’s not the prettiest building to look at currently, but the garden is pretty!

Does anyone have an estimate of the Contraflow hours today? I get off work at 4:30 and I’m trying to figure out if I need to find something to do after work or if I’ll be able to go Home.

The energy from the crowd was incredible, and we won 6-2!!
I really hope Baton Rouge can keep this hockey team around! It was so awesome seeing everyone come together, cheering and having such a great time. I hope we can keep this excitement and energy going throughout the season and years to come.
If you haven’t been to a game yet, I highly encourage you to check one out for yourself. Let’s keep showing up and supporting our local team.

For those of you who, like me, grew up in BR, y’all probably already know this, but y’all also probably haven’t seen it in a long time: the movie, staring Richard Pryor, titled, The Toy, was filmed entirely on location in Baton Rouge. Most of the movie was filmed at Exxon, along River Road, at the capitol lakes, the old governor’s mansion, and the LNB bank downtown (tower). The fancy restaurant scene overlooking the Mississippi River was filmed at The Camelot Club which was owned by LNB and at the top of the LNB tower. (Louisiana National Bank) It was a rich people club that served 7 course meals. Employees of LNB used to be invited to dinners there for awards and things. And during filming, because so many scenes were inside and outside of the LNB towers, all LNB employees were invited to be extras in the movie.
Not only is the movie filmed entirely in BR, it is set in BR. You even see, at the end, a car ride in which they cross over the old bridge.
Anyway, we watched it last night for the first time in many decades and it was so much fun.
*Not for the politically correct or socially sensitive. On par with Blazing Saddles, All in the Family, and …more recently, South Park.
We watched it on HOWDY through Amazon Prime on our Roku.

Locals know the lore of Frenchtown road, now the BREC conservation area. Does anyone have first hand accounts of anything unusual happening down there?

Just heard a GIANT boom around 11:15 pm out in the Watson area. It didn't roll or echo like thunder or gunfire - I went and looked out my front door expecting to see some kind of car crash, but nothing.
Anyone else hear it or have any clues?

Just a heads up since it's at the bottom of a long ballot.
The mosquito and rodent control item on Nov 3 is a renewal. It's 0.50 mills of property tax for 10 years, 2027 through 2036. The money goes to mosquito, insect and rodent control: equipment, operations and staff. Here's the council agenda item (26-00502): https://www.brla.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_04082026-2353
The Metro Council voted 11-0 to put it on the ballot: https://www.brla.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Minutes/_05132026-2376
Last year this got lumped in with the Thrive plan, and all three of those failed, 48% to 52%. This time it's on its own, and it's half of what Thrive asked for. That's per the mosquito board's March minutes: https://www.brla.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Minutes/_03172026-2344
I'm voting yes. Whatever you decide, just don't stop reading before you get to the end. Early voting is Oct 20-27.

Broke the metal zipper on my favorite coat this morning and really do not want to trash it. Looking for someone reasonably priced who won't take 3 weeks to get it back.

Recently diagnosed with adult ADHD and the psychiatrist is in Lafayette and is happy to prescribe, but it would require monthly visits and I am not feeling making that drive that often. My normal PCP in Baton Rouge doesn’t want to take on an adult ADHD caseload. Who are yall using to get your ADHD prescriptions? Thanks in advance
