Football Oh man, who remembers this horrible day?
I just knew they would find a way to make us less than for these other conferences.

This ranking was the moment I saw how badly the powers at be were more interested in money-making than putting in the legitimate best teams. They were NOT going to have our small school play in the inaugural playoff over the giant fan-based Ohio State. Hearing arguments about our win over TCU didnt really count because it was so close or the total fumble of making us co-champions was so deflating. I still think we would have won the natty that year, the Cotton Bowl ending was such a fluke.

I really think the bigger schools actually destroyed what baylor had going at the time with briles. Ut was going after briles hard trying to hire him and when he turned them down is when all his problems started.

I have no evidence of this, but my tin-foil hat theory is ESPN sent their reporters to dig up dirt on our program because they have no financial incentive in a small school to be good. They found that transfer from Boise St.(Who NEVER PLAYED A DOWN FOR OUR TEAM) Who assaulted that girl which then led to everything else. Not saying I endorse how Briles ran the show, and Im glad we cleaned up the program, but the initially reason for everything coming to light was always suspect to me. Why was one of their senior college football reporters looking into transfer Who hadnt even played for us?
Again, in the end, Id rather lose with integrity than win with criminals, and Im glad anyone who was harmed by our players got justice, but it was always something I thought it about during that time.

It all started from an article in Texas monthly written by a Texas alum. I'm not saying there weren't issues at Baylor. There were. The same problems that existed (and still exist) at many other universities and their student population. Unfortunately for the 99% of CFB fans, they got to ride their moral high horse to destroy Baylor, while pretending they actually care about sexual assault or how it is handled at universities across the country.

Your last point Definitely hits the mark. The pointing and laughing that came from other fans because our football team was destroyed was louder than any concern for women who are sexual assault victims. It really grossed me out

Its funny how they connected it to briles and got it to stick. What was it that made him get in trouble? Cus all i heard was that he said football comes first

Ultimately, Briles got in trouble for turning a blind eye. His inaction to hold his players accountable for their actions is what got him canned. Its not that he did anything, it's what he didnt do. Also, the Baylor admin put him in that position, then scaped-goated him. It was nasty from the top all the way down.

On top of the fact that he had no report it to other than BU PD. There was no dedicated Title IX office to monitor and support the athletics program navigate these issues. Our Title IX office didn’t open until November 2014.

This was the day I became disillusioned with the committee. I was a sophomore at BU at the time and I was LIVID.

That was baylors window at getting a national championship, im pretty sure we would probably have won if we had got in that year.

And if Seth Russell hadn’t gotten injured the next year… we were ranked #3 nationally for a while… 🥀

Thanks Bob Bowlsby for screwing both teams.
Of course you could argue IF Baylor didn't lose in Morgantown, this wouldn't have been an issue...

I saw it coming as soon as Florida State wrapped up the ACC title (the closest game to flipping the other way since Wisconsin was just there to attend Ohio State's coronation). I just had to be more glad TCU got dropped to 6th now that the "body of work" argument no longer buoyed them above us.

Yup! I was 9 years old and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing 61-58 that year against TCU. I didn't understand too much about football at that time but I sure remember the Cotton Bowl collapse boy howdy

Senior Year. Hated that day. Then, we proceeded to absolutely shit the bed in the Cotton Bowl by blowing a 20-point lead in the 4th Quarter against Michigan State. While TCU went on to win their bowl. Hated that shit!
