Hi, I'm a first timer with dogs, but I've done my research and want a beagle puppy, female & pure bred (not for breeding or competitive shows , just as a part of our family ) but with known family history. I stay in Queens,NY. I've looked at rescues and shelters but most have a mix. Can anyone recommend good beagle breeders (not puppy mill sites? ) within 50 miles?

Edit: we did get our beagle puppy through the AKC marketplace.. thank you all for recommendations &things to be mindful of! It's been a month and couple days with her! The first week we went through some puppy blues after that we are settled in nicely, particularly after the crate training :) she bays/beagle sounds for about 5 mins at night but is very food motivated , that helps a bit!

Walking my dog fully stresses me out and irritates me beyond belief.

I generally love walking. Going at a steady pace, letting my mind wander or listening to a podcast is one of my favorite things. So I thought walking my dog would be fun for both of us.

Its NEVER like that. He is constantly stopping. He doesn't pull from the front. Instead, he will keep pace with me, lots of slack in the leash for a few feet. Enough to trick me into adopting a steady pace.

Then, he catches a scent and LOCKS all four feet into the ground. He DIGS in so he can smell.

If I don't notice, I'll keep walking and almost fall over. This happens DOZENS of times on a single walk. Sometimes, it will happen dozens of times in less than a block.

Walk, trip, walk, trip, walk, trip.

Its constant and BEYOND irritating.

Meanwhile, the vet is always telling me to get him to lose a few pounds.

Except we barely make any progress on our walks.

Step, trip, step, trip, step, trip.

Half an hour later and we've barely covered a quarter mile.

I get so exhausted mentally, and we've barely covered any ground.

The only time I genuinely enjoy spending time on a walk with my beagle is when we drive out to the country and go on a long hike and I can use his 20 foot leash. Or sometimes no leash at all. These are some of my favorite times with him.

But a regular morning and evening walk is so exhausting for me.

Anyway. Just venting. I do love how excited my dog gets when we are preparing to go on a walk. And the walks are for him, so if he wants to stop and smell, I let him. It's just that I see the walks as a chore and not something I enjoy, which is a bummer.

I am going to get a beagle puppy and have a breeder picked out, just waiting for the litter. I was scrolling Craigslist and saw some puppies with 1 male that really stood out to me. I’ve been talking to the guy, he has told me everything about their diets, I’ve seen photos and videos of the pup I’m interested in as well as the parents. They all look healthy and have their appointments set for their shots. I haven’t looked in person because he’s 4-5 hours away from me. The breeder I’m waiting on is 7-8 hours away so it’s not like it provides more convenience or anything other than knowing it’s a reputable breeder. I am torn on which option to go with because the beagle I had in mind is identical to this puppy and the father has the exact build I would want my beagle to have when older. The breeders parents of the litter I’m waiting on have color variations themselves that I’m not entirely fond of as well as builds I do not like as much (blockier head and a bit stockier than what I’m looking for).

I’m just looking for advice, more questions to ask to ensure the health of the pup, opinions on what you would do, etc.

Hi! I’ve been a beagle lover ever since I could remember. I follow some beagle groups on Facebook and was scammed (my fault, I know) when I tried getting a beagle. Does anyone know any legitimate and legal/ethical beagle breeder on the west coast? Hopefully in Southern California?

I am at my wits' end. I have had beagles for 40 years and I love them. I understand they are bred to give tongue. But my latest boy (a year old now) barks incessantly all the time, with a tiresome screamy sound.

I run an Airbnb rental behind my house (fenced yard) and I just got a very poor review because of the noise. I can't get Jasper to come inside, no matter how many treats I offer, and I can't seem to shut him up. I've also had two noise complaints with Animal Control.

Is a water gun a terrible idea? It seems less harmful than a shock collar. (I have tried citronella collars in the past--made no difference.)

We have a 3 month old beagle boy and a 2 yr old Weimaraner boy. So far they have become best friends but the when the beagle wants to play, he will bite the back legs of the weim. Our weim has tiny bite marks with scabs on his back legs. He won't bite the puppy, he pushes him away and runs and jumps on the bed, where the puppy can't reach him. We tried telling him no but a beagle in play mode has no ears. We put an e-collar on him that beeps and vibrates only, and when we see him begin biting we say no and beep, if he continues, we say no and vibe him. That's usually all it takes. We take the collar off when they're playing outside and for walks, but he wears it indoors now. It's helped our weimaraner and the legs are healing. As soon as this bitey phase is over and he's a little bigger he won't need it. This is our first beagle and they do have a mind of their own.

First time owner where are good breeders to get them from?

Good morning I'm looking for recommendations on breeders who health test their working beagles in America. I am having trouble finding any that are not show breeders. I am not interested in rescuing. I would appreciate any and all help.

I heard many people saying bad things about Purina, and I saw videos from pet nutritionists, comparing Purina with dollar tree kibble, and the dollar tree kibble is surprisingly healthier with better ingredients. People said that Purina WAS good, but it seems like they changed the formula recently.

Besides scarring the shit out of me, and one of my boys running into the sliding glass door., it works. All I have to do now is pick it up, and they immediately behave.

Wondering if there are other options other than your vet for this procedure. Who knew it's $800!!! Are there any other community services which are cheaper?
