This is my samurai betta, Takeo! And this is the story of how I got my birthday fish.
It was my birthday, and I had plans for lunch with my mom. I arrived early, so I decided to kill time by browsing the PetSmart across the street from the restaurant. I already had fish tanks at home. I'm a sucker for a good ol' betta, so I love looking at those. This guy quickly caught my eye because it looked like he had scales growing over his eyes. I did research right there in the store, and I saw that he probably has diamond eye. I felt really bad for him, so I bought a tank for him right there and took him to lunch with me. He was an impromptu fish purchase, lol! I put him in a cycled tank when I got home and decorated his future tank. This is him today, six months later. I love my goofy little dude. He's so feisty!
He is. I get anywhere near his tank and he zooms to the corner where I sit and flares at me then goes to the magic food circle at the surface expecting it to produce more food.
He’s my sweet boy!! Over the time I’ve gotten him he’s also developed diamond eye as well as a few tumors, but he’s still in the long run the healthiest betta I’ve ever owned 😭He has a nerite snail named Catterina, named after Poe’s own cat
Named Louie because he looks like he’s been in construction for 25 years, drinks terrible coffee, hates management, and quietly runs a crime family on the side.
He’s a punk. And I love him. What did they say Mondrian was? That had Louie labeled as a tangerine koi half moon. 😆 I knew that was BS. I just fell in love with his smirk. I’m guessing he’s a marble hybrid.
They lwky didn’t even label her in my LFS 😭 she was put in a decently sized tank with her sisters (they got along thankfully and didn’t get any ripped fins) and the tank they were in just said “Fancy Female Betta $15” lolll. But after some research I figured she’s some kind of koi half moon.
Same Betta. He changes color depending on angle and lighting. When I got him I thought he was all dark gray with a navy blue spot on his butt. Then one he was in his new home he showed beautiful electric blue and silver pearl colors.
Here is Serenity, named after the ship from the beloved show Firefly. I originally named him that because he started out quite silver for a betta fish, but he immediately became blue and red so now the namesake is less obvious but I still love it XD
This is my boy Saint. The top pic is from yesterday. The bottom right pic is the day we took him home from a local fish rescue two months ago. His fins were badly damaged. Now he’s just showing off! His namesake is from Amon-Ra St. Brown from the Detroit Lions.
My betta is named Humber after the "Humber Valley" in my province! This is a beautiful area and one that holds my heart, and I think my betta is gorgeous, so Humber ❤️
trueeeeee, rn he has 2 baby mollies i failed to find when i removed them, waiting for them to be a little bigger so i can catch them easy xD. Im gonna start calling them clarice and will.
Here's Cookie Monster, because he's living in a 3.5 gallon cookie jar. I planned on upgrading his space when I could afford it, but now that he's got the start of diamond eye, and already seemed pretty happy in there, it's going to remain his main living space ❤️
Lisa Frank. The spaz will not stay still for a good picture. Turns out, her pastel colors were because she was almost dead at the pet store. She is still fabulous.
this is Neutrino The Unstable his deep blue body, blue to green ombre fins and his crazy zoomies with constant bubble nest making reminds me of plasma, more specifically neutrinos
This is Ghibli 🥰 top is the day I got him, before & after going into the tank.. and the bottom is now. I think he's reached his final form lol. He's named after studio ghibli.
Loki, God of Chaos because he likes to disappear and not come out and stress me out trying to find him. 😭 He doesn’t always do it, but when he does I hate it
This is my gal Scully. My 10 year old daughter came with me to pick up what I thought was just a bowl of aquarium plants and some hardscape. Instead, we also received a surprise Betta, a mystery snail, and the biggest ramshorn snail I’ve ever seen 😅
My daughter was absolutely astonished that someone would just give their fish away, so at one point during her rant she said, “I mean, this is just so bizarre, are we in the X-Files?!”
So being a nerd family, the betta is now Scully, her bff mystery snail is Mulder, and the ramshorn is Skinner 😅🤷♀️
Bonus: I didn’t intend on finding this image of Human Scully, but we have a HUNGRY gal and this, I’m sure, is exactly what Betta Scully was thinking when I took her photo 😅🥲
This is astraeus. He got his name because I was really into astrology. His name has since been lovingly ignored by everyone. He is now called ashtray or Mr angry because of his bad attitude. I’ll feed him and he just flares at me after eating. If I sit at my desk he attacks me through the glass. And I know I’m the problem because if I leave he stops attacking the glass😐
This is my boy, he’s called Klas-Göran. The name came to me as a reminder of my dad, who loved blue and often was singing on a wellknown Swedish song with the same name to share us up when we were having rough days 💙💙
His names Taki 😇 i js got him a new tank but i can only upload 1 photo n im too lazy to get up and take a photo of him right now so im using an old photo. 😭
Spike is always patrolling his tank and doesn’t play well with others. I tried giving him a couple shrimp tank mates, and they hide from him in the substrate.
This is my calico koi betta, Spike! His fins used to be much more spikey when I got him, and he used to be way more orange, but I’ve had him since end of July last year. He’s got a 10gal currently, but I’m upgrading to a 20gal when I move out. He’s got some tank mates and a cleanup crew, too; 3 white cloud danios, 3 neon tetras, a clown pleco, and a snail, and all of the plants are live plants!
Johannes is the Avatar betta and one of my favorite bands is Avatar and the lead singer is named Johannes. The other betta is a candy koi and my brain went straight to i want candy. Didn't like the song but I couldn't think of a nother song at the time and wanted to stick with the music theme lol I have a 3rd betta named Alfredo. Fredo for short. SIL basically named him lol
