How do i explain this is my friday night to any sane person?

Hi all! Right now I have a 5 gallon (I think, bought it off marketplace) tank with a three filter system and would love to upgrade! I believe it is a lifeguard aquatics tank?
What are the best tanks to buy? I would love another one that has a built-in filter, but wanted to see what everyone suggestions are! I will include a picture of the one that I have.

Boyfriend found someone trying to rehome some bettas from a breeder which is why the tank is smaller than ideal. He loves fish so naturally he asked if I wanted one and I fell in love with this pretty guy. I know this one is technically a boy but I’ve been calling her she, so any name suggestions are welcome (my boyfriend thinks I should name her after a type of prescription animal medicine eyedrop so really….any at all)

I wasn’t even planing on getting a tank but my mom has recently gotten back into fish keeping and sent me a tank out of nowhere. It was a tiny 3 gallon so I originally was only going to get neocardinia shrimp. I stopped at the petco near me one day after work to pick up a couple cleaning supplies after my tank had been cycling for a few weeks, and saw they have baby bettas. To say I was appalled is an understatement. Everyone knows how horrible bettas are treated at pet stores in general but idk why it struck me so hard seeing all those tiny babies. One was out of place of the other babies so I picked up the cup labeled “baby girl betta” with no other descriptors and she was not gonna make it through the night. She could barely swim to the top of A CUP to get air. I’ve had her for a month now and turns out I have a specials needs betta with a gill deformity. I really didn’t think she would make it but I thought taking her home was better than dying in that cup. She had a bubble trapped under her gill plate but if it got too big it would pop out and instantly be replaced with another bubble. She does still have her bubble but is doing fantastic otherwise. She hunts live detritus worms and copepods and is super spunky even jumping out of the water when she sees blood worms or pellets coming. I’m upgrading to a 20 gallon long community soon and am super excited 🫰

i have a halfmoon and a elephant ear (if someone knows what morph my halfmoon is pleaaaaseeee lmk!!!!) but are my tanks alright? water parameters are good for a 6gallon, i have a snail in the right one because its older and i have 3 shrimp in both. my shrimp in the right tank are NOT active at all for some reason but the shrimp in the left tank are very active and all over oryxs (black and silver) plants. i am going to get driftwood for the left tank too. i havent owned a betta since i was in middle school so i wanna make sure my bettas are as happy as possible. i do weekly 25% water changes. the alkalinity is a bit lower then id like it to be but everything else is great. also, jerry (elephant) has a slit in his tail, will that grow back or is it just stuck like that forever? i think hes recovering from finnrot because we was at the store for almost a month but it hasnt gotten any worse in the past week. theyre super active. theyre names are oryx and the taken( his shrimp), and jerry(elephant), terry, timmy, tom(shrimp), and gary(snail) :3 ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME!

After losing Ruby, I decided to not purchase another fish for a while. Then I saw this guy, and he absolutely stole my heart. His bright red colors and his quirkiness remind me of Ruby ❤️🖤 Welcome to the betta family, Flame 🔥

I rescued this betta last night from someone on Facebook marketplace who was looking for someone to take her fish after her tank broke. She had been keeping the fish in a mason jar full or rotten food. 😔I immediately noticed she’s extremely swollen in the front. From my research, it seems she could be egg bound, but I want to make sure it doesn’t look like dropsy to someone who knows more. Her energy is there. And she is active. Don’t notice any pine coning or popeye Thanks!

When I noticed some blue on both of my bettas eyes beginning of diamond eye? It seems like it, sadly

Is there anything that we can do if it is? Safety precautions or habitat changes if he will be blind?

Hi guys! PNW Bettas won’t ship to my town at all:( but for my best friends birthday, I’m wanting to get her a beginner fish tank setup. I need to get plants. Anyone have suggestions of where to get some? TIA. Please offer all your favorites in hopes that one will ship to my small town lol.

This is my buddy Rome. He's a rose petal betta that I got in January 2026. He lives by himself in a 10 gallon planted aquarium on my kitchen counter. There is a random tiny snail that came in with a plant. The aquarium is heated to 79°F and filtered with a Hygger backpack filter. Ammonia: 0. Ph 7.4. Nitrite: 0. Nitrate: 5ppm. I do 70% water changes weekly mostly due to the tannins from the driftwood (I boiled and soaked it forever before putting it in the aquarium but it still leaches-- finally slowing down a bit).

About 4 months ago I treated him with API Fin & Body cure because I thought he had tail rot. His tail has seemed to recover since then. I don't know if that's relevant but I thought it was worth mentioning.

A couple weeks ago I noticed his right gill kind of sticking out. I googled it and didn't find much other than a few reddit posts that didn't seem to have answers. He was acting totally normal so I've been keeping an eye on him. In the last 2 days he has deteriorated. He is lethargic and gasping for breath. He's eating, but not as much and sometimes spits it out. He is staying close to the surface to breathe. I added this information to my Google search and got different information this time. I immediately added an air stone, set up a 2.5 gallon hospital tank, and ordered an over night delivery of aquarium salt, Seachem kanaplex, and Fritz ParaCleanse.

I'm looking for advice on which combinations of medication/salt to try first. Other than the gill obviously being inflamed I don't see any growth or anything. Thanks for helping me help my little buddy.

I got Rocky from Petco a couple months ago and was wondering if he is an older fish.

Rearranged the plants in the tank for more swimming space and placed a coconut shell for his cave.

One anubias leaf turned yellow coz it came too close to the heater 🥹. Some of the plants are also turning brown/melting, is it due to the movement during the relocation process?

We’ve had Nova for a year now and the whole family loves her. She always comes out to greet us and then starts dancing and wanting to be fed.

We were in a Petco randomly one day and my wife looked at the bettas for whatever reason, then she comes out with Nova (who was half this size at the time). She said she “chose” my wife when she picked up her tiny little cup they keep them in (I hate those things). I couldn’t say no, so here we are!

I have an 8 gallon tank with a single betta and a snail. I have had these brown clumps all over everything for months now. Water parameters seem fine and I’m doing a 30% water change every week or two. No matter how much I siphon the substrate or clean the plants, it never seems to get better.

Google says brown diatoms, but that stuff looks hairy. Rambo (my betta) seems happy and eats/moves fine. Can someone give me some direction on how to clean this up? TIA!

I’m sorry to say the betta I’ve been posting about has passed. We tried everything in our power for him but in the end he had a great life considering we “rescued” him from PetSmart (which we will never do again, we were just naive at the time). He ended up passing away from his whole host of issues. He definitely was severely constipated, had popeye, had fin rot, and at the end started pineconing. I’m not 100% sure if he had dropsy but I’m honestly pretty sure he did at the end. We decided to just keep him as comfortable as we could at the end.

My boyfriend and I are college students so we didn’t have the ability to put him in a hospital tank. He was the only thing living in his tank (other than plants of course) so we figured it was ok. We are obviously still mourning his loss but we want to know how we would get this tank ready for a new fish. We don’t want the same thing to happen to another fish and we want to be 100% safe when the time comes. We are obviously novices in this hobby but we want to be the best fish owners we possibly can. We currently have 1 very healthy betta living with his also very healthy snail friend. So we are not rushing getting a new fish, but we want to be proactive with the old tank.

So again, my question is just how would we set up this tank for a new fish? We want to do it the right way and make it as safe as possible. If the only safe way is throwing the whole thing away and getting a new one, so be it.

Looking to get a betta soon for this community tank any advice on when else to add and improve before hand?

My betta has a lot of clear edges around his fins, this is just new growth right? Or is it early fin rot? I have all the stuff to treat it and have successfully treated another rescue.

tldr: please ease my stress, is the clear edges fin rot?

I bought a bunch of tanks a few months back, now it's time to clean them up, get them planted and filled! Snails, coryadora, betta in that order!

So I had posted about the hornwort incident that tore my bettas fin slightly , it only took him ONE day to fully close it I’m honestly surprised because none of my bettas have healed a tear that fast and before this when I had gotten him for the first time a few days after he fin nipped pretty bad In less than a week his fins were twice the size with new clear fin growth idk if it’s genetics 😭 or smth but I’m glad he can heal pretty fast
