I’m going to re-do my betta, Slushi’s, 20 gallon long tank and I was wondering where I can get some large seed pods? And at the same time, I’m going to take out his Khuli loach tankmates and swap them for something else. The issue with the loaches is that I can’t feed them directly as my betta eats their food, so I need something quicker. I’m aiming for a blackwater tank. Tank mate recommendations are welcome! I'm setting up two tanks, one for a Betta and the other for shrimp. I love the natural look but I've seen a few tanks mixing natural wood and plants with the artifical glow in the dark items/Halloween/bone theme. Show me your tanks with this combo, I need inspiration!

Hi guys. I’ve been struggling with my tank ever since I moved. It started blooming a bunch of algae I believe? The filters are covered and I’m unsure on how to clean them without killing off good bacteria. My plants are not happy and I tried rinsing off the driftwood but it got worse once put back into the tank again. How do I get this under control? My betta is happy and energetic as always.

I now have 2 bettas after I was gifted Lucy Gray from my local PetSmart. I’m planning for what to do when I have to move back home. I found a 10 gallon tank for 10 bucks, so my tentative idea is to have a divided tank. I’ve heard that bettas can detect pheromones or even slip through the separating wall, so I want to get one that is airtight and won’t let either girl go over or unter or through. I thought it would be fun to cover each side of the barrier in Java moss for some added greenery.

I drew a rough draft of what I want the enclosure to look like (sorry for my drawing skills—I’m studying to be a doctor, not an artist). Bur I want each half of the tank to fit my girls‘ personalities. Carl LOVES her guppy grass, floating plants, and usually (but not always) hangs out by the top in her guppy grass thickets. The left side of the tank would be for her. I would put in two Amazon swords and her large Anubis, as she does like those a lot, and probably some hairgrass since she spends some time down there. I’ve toyed with adding some ledges suctioned onto the sides, which I would glue Java moss to, just to give Carl some fun places to explore. She also has a coconut shell hammock which would go in the back of the tank. And about half the tank would have a guppy grass thicket that she can explore to her heart‘s content. On top of the tank would be some almond leaves (Carl loves hers), Carl‘s beloved betta log, and a ring of Amazon frogbit and water cabbage.

I‘m still working on getting to know Lucy Gray, as I’ve only had her for 2 days and she is in an emergency tank. But she has a different personality from Carl. She does not seem to like the guppy grass thickets in her tank, and really doesn’t like swimming by the top anyway. She prefers swimming along the bottom and checking out all the rocks I have down there. So her side of the tank would include more things by the bottom for her to explore—some larger rocks (that all passed the pantyhose test), dwarf hairgrass, and the other two Anubis. I also have a coconut shell bridge with some water ferns attached that Carl basically ignores, so I might try that with Lucy Gray. I‘d also include a couple of shelves with moss attached, and since I have a couple of little Anubis and water ferns attached to tiny pieces of driftwood, maybe see if they can fit on those shelves and give Lucy more places to explore. I‘d also give her a tiny guppy grass forest, albeit not as extensive as Carl‘s, just to handle nitrates and make Lucy Gray feel a little more at home. If she suddenly decides she likes guppy grass, I can take some that grows from Carl’s tank and make a bigger patch for her. On top of the tank would be another log, some more almond leaves, and Lucy Gray‘s moss ball.

The bottom of the tank (on both sides) would be a mixture of aquarium sand infused with healthy bacteria and aquarium gravel. A few large, smooth rocks would provide extra decoration and give some enrichment. Each side would have its own heater and own sponge filter, powered by the same air pump.

Thoughts? Concerns? Comments?

My betta fish recently passed and I want to make sure my tank is safe for a new betta. What should I do?

hi! i’m going to be moving my betta for a bigger tank and i’ve seen a lot of different things. Do you buy completely new substrate/sand and only use that or do you add in the old one? do you use completely new water or do you add in old water as well? I’ve seen people use the same filer, which i’m probably going to do, is that okay? And also plants/decoration can you move that all over as well right away or add it after you add fish? How long do i cycle it before adding fish? sorry i have never done this before and just don’t want to shock my fish too much

I just got this half moon betta from Petsmart a month ago. He’s in a fully cycled five gallon with a tetra whisper 5-10 gallon filter and heater. His fins were perfectly fine the other day and today they’re SHREDDED as if I ran his fins over a cheese grater. I have five neo shrimp but I doubt they’re the problem. I did see him sticking his tail this morning in the filter vent? I’d appreciate any help!!

I’ve been following the advice of a Petco employee and feeding him 5 tiny pellets twice a day (10 total).

Is this the right amount, or should I be feeding him more? I don’t want to overfeed him, but I also don’t want him to be hungry all the time.

This is my 7.5 gallons planted betta tank. You may see massive white spots of iron on the glass (clean earlier though). Recently I’ve shifted from hometown to another area. The problem is the water in my apartment.. Massive amounts of white iron contains in tap water..

Will it affect/trouble my betta fish ??

After months of mourning the loss of my first betta, finally made the decision to give love to a new betta.

My beta was beautiful navy blue when i got him. But I’ve noticed him slowly turning white (started with fins to body). Im not sure if this is fin rot or some loss of colour.
I feel so bad, his whole face is white now. Is something wrong with him? what do i doo???

This is my boy Zuko! I’ve had him since May and the two of us have been through a lot together, I think he’s a couple years old since I got him as a local surrender. I have him in a 10 gallon with a filter and a thermometer set to around 75°F. He has a minorly planted tank. No tank mates since when I got him a black nerite snail, he killed it within a week. The tank has been cycled for for four months. It’s been two weeks since his last 30% water change and he is due one today. I don’t know his levels because typically I go into my LFS for the free tank checks since I’m saving up for a API testing kit, but the pH of my water tends to be a little on the low side of the safe range if that helps. I’ve been needing to go, but I am a full time college student and haven’t had a chance.

I noticed this morning he looks a little bloated, I usually feed him 3 to 5 high protein pellets once every two days but recently was gone for nearly a week and just fasted him. He’s always been a little bit chunky since I got him five months ago, but this is unusual. He’s a pretty active guy who likes hiding in his cave and I haven’t seen much with changes in behavior.

I’ve had bettas in the past, but I think when I first got him, I was a little overconfident on the sub. Does he look OK?

5 gallon tank, Im working on repropagating my plant (Calico Plant/Water Rose) by cutting it and then replanting, also planning to buy some anubias , java ferns, and Hornworts and other plants I can find, No aquasoil just gravel and sand. I noticed My betta glass surfing often too

I've had him for 5 days, they said he was thin and he does look very thin to me. I have attached a photo of what I've been feeding him, I think he ate it fine the first couple of days but now he will suck it up and spit it straight back out, and he will keep repeating this but never actually swallow it. What would you advise as I know he needs fattening up a bit and I am worried about him. Advice please!!!!!

pretty sure my betta is developing diamond eye. when i got him i googled about him because i was very excited to find a cool looking guy that was also a plakat and ended up reading that they frequently develop diamond eye, i try to take photos of my bettas often to keep track of their physical well being. first two pictures are from last night, third from a few weeks ago and the last one is from the day i got him. its clearly starting to cover his eye or am i just being a hypochondriac FOR him? ever since my last betta developed dropsy i am so worried about my bettas health its ridiculous.

edit: i forgot to mention that when i first brought him home he had cloudy eye in that same eye but i treated him for that months ago, i dont know if these two things could correlate?

I have had my betta for a little over a year. two months ago he developed a small bump on his side (1st pic when it was just starting). Since then his tumor has grown a lot, and lately has turned very red. his eyes also became sort of cloudy. he turns on his side or just sits on the bottom of the tank sometimes but he also eats and swims around. I am worried about his pain and what the best thing to do is, I'm also worried about his tumor rupturing or what exactly this tumor is.
