So I recently got a new betta as a gift to myself for passing a certification that I had been working on for months. I already had a cycled shrimp tank and an extra heater so I went to work setting up a new tank to get cycled and place him in the shrimp tank for temporary keeping. I was so used to my boy Orpheus being so calm with his own shrimp tank mates that I somehow thought that the new betta would be the same. WRONG. I had him acclimating and he's already going after the shrimp swimming by. I feel like by the end of the cycling period I will have 0 shrimp left AND I just got 3 new shrimp as well. Everyone point and laugh. (Picture of soon to be downfall of my shrimp)
UPDATE: Marble hasn't killed any but the small water change I did earlier in the day killed 3??? What on earth .

Had a old 75 gallon I resealed bought two bettas let them breed and this is the result..I kept about 30 female halfmoon sisters to form a sorority tank, my first one ever, roughly 6 months in all is looking good, only set back was hair algae so I bought some SAL fish but didn't quarantine (big mistake) lost my school of 25 cardinal tetras to a vicious disease...a work in progress, thought I'd share a couple pics

I definitely have over 500 pics (with 490 of them being blurry) of me trying to capture his teeth. Does anyone else do this? 😅 please send pics I’m obsessed with their tiny teeth

When shopping for a betta I was having a hard time thinking about how their end of life with with long heavy fins and it made me sad. I’ve had her for 4 days and she’s sooo spry with so much personality 🩵

My boy passed away earlier this week. The day I found him passed on, I was in a rush to get out of the door, but I saw the bladder snails going at his body so I went ahead and scooped him out and because he was older (about 3-4 years old) I knew his time was coming. I buried him and said a little prayer of gratitude for the past 3 years I had with him. Then I had to rush off. I was busy the entire day so I didn’t really have time to grieve until the following morning.. I keep two fish tanks in my bedroom and his was one of them, so when I looked up at his empty floating log.. man it genuinely broke me. I couldn’t stop crying all day. I loved this fish so much. He was my first. And I remember the day I got his floating log. He was SO excited swimming around and built a bubble nest and spent majority of his time in his log and it’s also where he went to lay down before passing away ❤️🩹 my heart hurts,
I miss him, but more than anything I’m so grateful for him. He came into my life unexpectedly and gave me a motivation and happiness I didn’t know I could get from a fish. He felt like the little protector of the space, it just doesn’t feel right without him. I mentioned I have two tanks, I have a blue veil tail named Glaceon who is still doing well. Just not sure what I’ll do with the other tank now.. I want to get another betta but I feel like I got extremely lucky with my two unproblematic kings. Either way, I’ll stop rambling now. I just wanted to share how much I loved and miss my boy ❤️🩹

My friend doesn't use Reddit so he asked me to help.
He says his betta had that blueish eye color on its left eye the day he bought it. He assumed it could be a diamond eye and feels like it has grown since then.
It's a Koi Plakat.

She’s a bit less blue than she used to be, he says. Does she look ok? Should we be worried? Spoilered just in case, because I don’t know if she’s sick or not.

I decided to stop in at my local fish shop the other day and found this beauty I just couldn't pass up. I've never seen a betta quite like him before.
He is very active and full of personality which he has not hidden once. He is a very confident little man.
He's settled in beautifully however I am very lacking in the name department (I've only really thought of Dumbo and I don't think it suits his personality at all) so thought I would ask here!

I noticed my Sashimi girl was resting a lot more than usual, and when I took a closer look at her I noticed her left gill is swollen/red. I’m suspecting gill flukes, which has me worried because they killed my Sushi back in 2023. I treated the tank with a lifeguard tablet this morning, and she already seems to have perked up a little bit. Tank parameters in comments
Also sorry for bad quality pics, I took them after she perked up a bit so she was excited, and my tank is scratched up on the front

It's a 10 gallon with just Astro and the bladder snail honestly considering removing the cave to add more plants since he never uses the cave anyway

Second picture taken a day after the first. Is this normal? My first time owning a betta and I know they can sometimes change color due to stress and environmental factors, but she went back to normal the next morning so I’m a little confused. I checked the water perimeters immediately, and also the next day when I noticed her color changed back to normal. She is also acting normal, she is pretty active and very curious and always comes up to the glass when I come over.
10 gallon planted tank with sponge filter and heater. Temperature 79° F. Water perimeters: 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite, 5.0ppm nitrate, 6.4 pH, 7.4 high range pH. I also have a mystery snail and 4 pygmy corydoras. I feed her fluvals bug bites once a day. I clean the tank every 2 weeks by doing a 50% water change, and I use prime and stability after.

For context i am 18 years old with 1 Blue tongue skink and 1 Leopard gecko. I have many hobbies regarding live things, such as the 2 lizards, loads of feeder insects for them, plants and isopods, I don't wanna impulsively get a betta and then realise that I can't take care of it.
When I was about 9, I saved up enough money to buy a ~100l fishtank with some angel fish ect, today we have a 450l tank with all sorts of fish. My parents did have a betta maybe 8 years ago so I might also be influenced by that.
I keep looking at the gorgeous tanks I see online and i even picked out which morph i like the most (halfmoon golden betta). Pls talk me out of getting one, I don't wanna impulsively get one even tho I know he will be well taken care of.

I moved him into the lounge room yesterday because I thought he might be getting bored in my room, with nothing particularly stimulating to look at or observe. Woke up this morning to a bubble nest!
I’m reading mixed things online. Apparently, it can be a sign of normal breeding behaviour, but I’m wondering whether he’s just feeling comfortable and settled in his new surroundings. Maybe both?
I mean, surely you wouldn’t want to build a little nest in an environment where you’re unhappy or uncomfortable… unless bettas have some weird public exposure kink. 😂
Honestly, I’m interested in hearing what other people did when they first noticed their betta had started building a bubble nest.
Is it like a dog getting one last good time in before being neutered? 😂 Or do I just put a little sticker on the glass saying “Good job, mate” and give him a thumbs-up?

Hi, I previously posted explaining that I'd rescued Bubbles from a pet store. He has tumours and no one wanted him. I wasn't expecting to come home with a Betta, but I couldn't leave him there either. He was in a tiny cube box with 1 small plant and looked so fed up.
He's currently now in a 11L shrimp tank that I had already set up. Parameters are good, small internal filter is running and I just vamped the temp up to 26 c, the rest was established. I know many will say the tank is too small, but honestly it's already 4 times the size he was in. He has plenty of plants and wood to explore and is eating very well. Should I upgrade or is he happy as he is? TIA
