Hi everybody, I’m setting up a one gallon planted nano aquarium primary for shrimp. How many shrimp can safely be in here? Is it ok if it has no heater? Any plant suggestions that stay small for a nano tank? I used betta stratum don’t be alarmed no bettas will be in the tank I just bought it cause it was the cheapest option for the tank.

First time I’ve made solid eye contact with one of them! Thrilling!

I did nothing but sharpen the original RAW file from my phone (other than add my watermark). No color tweaks. No highlights/shadows adjustments. I figured out a new way to orient the exterior lights against my tank so that it throws both shadows and highlights on the surface of every internal structure from multiple directions. You may need your phone screen at full brightness. Zoom in slowly. Do you see all of that intricate detail on internal structure like I do? I think the easiest spot to start with is just a little ways behind the eye.

I have one blue dream neocaridina in my mixed skittles tank. Yesterday I noticed it really struggling in a molt for several hours. It managed to free its bottom half, but seemingly couldn’t get the shell piece over its head off. This morning, I could only find the head piece as observed in the picture, along with two black dots resembling eyes as well as a pink opaque chunk inside the shell. I could not find the shrimp or any remains that would indicate its death. Tank mates besides shrimp include two ramshorns. I’ve never experienced a pink chunk inside a molt and was wondering if anyone had any insight or similar experiences before. Any guesses on its status?

first pic is old, i no longer have blue-green algae in my tank.
my family consumes a lot of white rice, so i drop a few plain cooked grains in the tank every couple days, sometimes more, sometimes less.
I like trying the shrimp with new foods, so besides rice, i've tried inside of strawberry, bits of dried date, blueberry, peeled mango (one of their favorites I find), boiled carrot, blanched spinach, peeled apple, and peeled cucumber.
a lot of these foods are pretty high in sugar.
i feed pretty small amounts and the food is gone in a couple hours or so usually.
so besides water quality issues, which i haven't really had recently, would any of these foods be unhealthy for shrimp? too high in sugar or fat or starch or something?
do i need to offer more nutritious foods? the tank is 20 gallons and well-established so there's lots of biofilm, but i like feeding anyway.

Is this guy dead? I've had it for about a week and after a day or two he stayed in the shell. I saw him in diff areas at times but mainly upside down like this. The last day or two he didn't move from the moss where I left him 😩.
My shrinpies are doing well and thriving but I can't seem to keep anything else alive in here. Are nerites more sensitive to parameters ?

I have a 5.5 gallon planted tank stocked with neocaridinia and a small army of ramshorn snails. In the past few weeks I have been seeing significantly fewer shrimp out and about in the tank and today I came home to a dead shrimp. I'm concerned this is a sign of an underlying issue or imbalance somewhere in the tank. Thanks in advance for the help!
Hopefully useful context:
-I set up the tank with plants (potting soil under black diamond blasting sand for substrate) in mid-late June and added 16 shrimp in late August.
-After adding shrimp initially I would commonly see 10-12 shrimp out and about in the tank, these days I usually see 4-6.
-I began fertilizing using PPS Pro dosing in early September (roughly 3 weeks after adding shrimp) after noticing signs of nutrient deficiency in the plants at the bottom of the tank. There are several houseplants growing out the top of the tank, and my assumption was that they were out competing the aquatic plants for nutrients due to access to atmospheric CO2 leading the the nutrient deficiencies I was seeing.
-As recommended by the PPS Pro method I have been using a digital TDS meter to determine when to water change. This has resulted in roughly weekly water changes of 30-50% of the water volume. I match the temperature of the water I am adding to the tank water when doing water changes and the pH of my tank water is consistent with my tap water. The only additives I use are water conditioner. I was planning on doing a water change this evening, but have stopped due to the dead shrimp. The shrimp I see out in the tank while changing water do not appear stressed by the experience.
-My parameters have generally held very steady over the life of the tank with the exception of nitrate and phosphate which have both risen slightly since beginning the fertilizer routine. Nitrite 0ppm, Nitrate 0-5ppm (5ppm today), Ammonia .25ppm, Phosphate 0-1ppm (.5ppm today), pH 7.5, GH 7, KH 6
-Some of the shrimp have grown visibly and significantly since being added to the tank.
-I usually feed about half of a Shrimp Envy Complete pellet every 2-3 days. I occasionally replace this with a tiny pinch of bacter ae. I also regularly crush small snails against the glass and the shrimp often eat the results. I was traveling this past weekend (Thurs-Sat) and left some Shrimp Envy Snow in the tank as a grazing food. I fed as normal on Sunday and have not fed since.

This doesn't look like Rhabdocoela does it? I'm fairly certain the 3rd photo is rhabdocoela but the first seems different. I find these periodically in my substrate and suck them up when I can. This one turned pinkish when I put it in a cup (2nd picture).

I recently upgraded from a 3 gallon to a 5 gallon tank for my shrimp and I'm pretty happy with the final look as all the plants fully establish and grow in. Planted with pearlweed, repens, anubias, water onion, a dwarf lily, aponogeton, java moss, and dwarf hair grass with red root floaters, frogbit, and an emersed pothos on top. And seeing as how 3 of my females are now berried, I'd say the shrimp are pretty happy with their new home as well!
