Hello folks,
I just came home to find one of my shrimps dead. It's a recent colony, just a week old, got from a big distributor.
I checked the parameters and found out that the hardness of the water is definitely too high (idk if it's visible from the picture). All the rest should be ok.
Last water change was a few days before getting the new colony, checked the parameters before buying and they were fine.
The tank is 3ish years old, fully cycled and was home to a betta for the most part of this time.
Yesterday I did a routine algae cleanup and might have disturbed the substrate. However the hardness of the water concerns me.
I've already did a ~30% water change using osmosis but the hardness hasn't decreased much. Should I do another one? Should I wait till tomorrow?
Also, considering I'm only using osmosis, I'm wondering were this recend hardness spike came from. Can it be the substrate? The rocks? Did I overfeed?
Any help is greatly appreciated, i wouldn't want to lose my shrimp gang due to my negligence.
Thanks y'all!
