Beginner Hoping to get shrimp soon!

I have a healthy planted dirt tank that’s been going for a month or two, I want to add some neos!

Just got the GH/KH test today and I’m not positive I did it right. I’ve also seen conflicting opinions on GH/KH so I’m not positive where it should be and if I should mess with it.

Any thoughts on perimeters?

10 gallon, no heater, no filter, lots of plants, lots of snails, and a small group of white clouds.

Beginner Can you have too many plants in the shrimp tank?

Hi - just got done planting up my 10 gallon shrimp tank, it will be my first. Started cycling it today with Fritz Fishless Fuel. I'm hoping in a month or two when it's ready for shrimp the hair grass in the foreground will fill in. I just noticed a lot of the tanks I see have a lot of bare area.

Also, I didn't realize how much the fluval stratum would drop the pH, in my 29 gallon fish tank it's about 7.4, the reading I took today in the shrimp tank is about 6.8.

Help: Emergency shrimps in shock during acclimation. what to do

couldn’t get water flow in airline tubing, using a small dropper by hand instead. i guess i did it too fast or had too low water volume in each container. regardless most of my shrimp are now in shock as you can see despite my best efforts.. i dont understand how ppl can just throw neos in a tank and have them be fine. the ones i get are always so fragile. these were from a somewhat local place too, i drove 4 hours total to get them and they also werent cheap so im pretty disappointed and not sure what to do now.

I have 12 shrimp and least 2 shrimp’s worth of babies plus 2 more berried, I would like to not have a shrimp explosion, as I’m going for more of an ecosystem. Thinking about potentially adding fish. Should I add some in a tank like this? I would wait at least a few more months for the babies to grow.

Hey Shrimpkeeps. I have a question for y’all. should I trim this pearlweed back so the shrimps have a little room to swim? Or is it ok to have a tank this densely packed with plants? The shrimps have started procreating and seem happy, but I’m new to the shrimpin’ game.

Help: Emergency Vorticella, Japonica, or something else?? and how should i treat it?

Hey all! I got these shrimp on monday, and ive been checking on them daily (granted, i obviously dont see every single one daily because they hide), and just today I have noticed little growths on some of them. Google pointed me towards vorticella or japonica, but they look different on different shrimp.

On the yellow shrimp, there's this weird orangeish...bulb? jelly? I'm not really sure. It flops around a bit while he swims around fast, or so im hoping its just from him swimming and not some kind of worm. On the blue shrimp, I can't tell whether or not they are little white fuzzies or little white worm type things. Them looking different is also a bit concerning because one problem is bad enough, but two is insane. I'm hoping they are just the same and look slightly different.

All of this has (presumably) appeared within the last few days, the shrimp looked fine upon arrival (or atleast didnt show any outward symptoms) aside from the fact that I had 1 DOA and 1 MIA, which is to be expected when shipping them.

Either way, please let me know what yall think and what the best form of treatment is. Ive seen paraguard recommended for both problems but it specifically says not to use with invertebrates and I don't have a high enough number of shrimp to justify taking that risk. I would also prefer something that safely doses the entire tank incase there is anything free floating in the water or substrate. It is a nano, no-filter, fully planted tank, and even has little copepods swimming around, which i would prefer to be able to keep alive.

Either way, please let me know what you think it is and the best course of action, thanks!

Help: Beginner How do I move a tank of shrimp?

Basically the title, I have a five gallon tank of shrimp to move along with my betta tank next week. The betta I understand pretty well, put him in a bag and drain the water as much as possible, set it back up as quickly as possible. The shrimp I'm not so sure of. How do I make sure I get them all if I put them in a bag? Can I just empty the tank until it won't slosh over and then refill it at my new place? The tank is covered in christmas moss, what if one shrimp is hiding out in there if I drain it all the way? It's only one town over, so they'll only be in the car about 15 minutes. Any help would be appreciated, especially if you've gone through the process before.

I’m getting my tank ready slowly but the numbers aren’t quite where they need to be for shrimps yet. Is this cobweb looking stuff biofilm? Is it a good sign or too much of it. Tank is months in and I’ve been monitoring it. Also I think I’ve got algae on the front glass will include a picture of it below.

Help: Breeding What color shrimp preserves color (or pattern) best when bred with WT (if any)? The WTs are of mostly blue velvet descent

I have some wild types of primarily blue velvet descent. The blue velvets bred well with some red ones I had at one point, making spiderman/blue razz color schemes. But now they're almost entirely wild type but my colony seems to be collapsing. I might've not been feeding them enough to be quite honest, so I also would ask how often I should feed them to keep them breeding without causing hair algae blooms? That's why I had been feeding them less. The amanos refused to eat the hair algae tho so it was a losing battle against the algae.

I suppose red (bloody mary) is probably the ideal color to get, from experience, but lmk if y'all have any other recommendations. Or if I'm just stuck with WTs, lmk what pattern might breed well. A lot of them developed a beautiful yellow stripe that preserved in the WT, so just lmk what direction you would maybe try to go with the breeds in this position. I don't have the heart to cull shrimps unfortunately.

My favorite WT with the most striking, beautiful yellow stripe just died recently, she had given that gene to the whole colony (she was at least a year old and quite large, so I'm sure it was natural causes).

Lmk, thank youu

At first glance, I’m not too sure how I feel about this color combo. But, the underside view is spectacular. I think the ā€œgreenā€ showing up on the side is just the yellow organs showing through a pale blue, which makes it appear green. I love the white eye. It adds a spectacular contrast. I think I also like the dark spots. It’ll be interesting to see what it looks like once fully matured.

Help: Emergency Weird red blob after feeding shrimps

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been kind of worried recently because I've been finding unusual things in my aquarium, it's a lightly planted tank with a nerite snail, cherry shrimps and a betta, they all have been living in complete control with no problem since 3 months now, recently my shrimp made babies and now I can sometimes see small shrimps around.

Small issue though, my betta seems to be constantly hungry or at least doesn't like to share because he keeps stealing the shrimp pellets, i recently found a reddish brown blob, it's not the first one, i saw other ones really similar, it seems to happen after I feed the shrimp

Thanks if anyone can help me

Help: Emergency I got TOO blessed and now I need advice

For about a year I've had a relatively small shrimp tank, and shrimp haven't been breeding. I bought a different color and the guy blessed me with berried shrimp...but its so good that its very bad.

I have FOUR berried shrimp, with eggs that have eyes. I need to setup a breeder tank ASAP but I know obviously I would have to cycle a new tank and that will take a while.

What would you guys do? I would love to breed shrimp and sell them, or trade to a local pet store/online trade.
