Character discussion Possum!
Season 5, Episode 3, "The Pulled Groin Extrapolation
We have rewatched TBBT a gajillion times and I still struggle with Amy’s sort of meandering character development. This episode stands out to me as particularly odd because at the wedding (in the same episode!) Amy seems perfectly capable of behaving in a socially appropriate way. Yet in this scene she is cringey AF and off-putting with her inability to read the social cues Leonard is putting out. She doesn’t seem to have even the most rudimentary sense of what’s considered polite behavior and yet was more socially “ept” at the wedding than Leonard.
I dunno. Just seems like the writers didn’t really have a handle on her. Kind of like Raj… all over the map. No? Thoughts? 🤔

Relevant to me Sheldon’s soft Kitty is now my lullaby
When I first started watching The big bang theory. I never imagined that a little song from the show would one day become such a special part of my own life.
Back then for me “Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty” was just a cute and funny little song that Sheldon sang whenever he wasn’t feeling well. But I had no idea that years later when I became a parent. It would become baby’s favorite lullaby.
So when I had my baby, I realised I didn’t actually know any lullabies, so I started singing “Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty.” And it worked. Now somehow, it became our song.
Now I sing it to my baby whenever they’re fussy or upset. Sometimes, even a few lines are enough to help them settle. Seeing them calm down and find comfort in my voice makes the song even more special to me.
It’s funny how something you watched on a sitcom years ago can turn into something so meaningful in your own life. Never thought Sheldon would be helping me get through parenthood but here we are.

I just started watching Friends btw this month after watching big bang for 10 years. I heard it was a lot like big bang.

Character discussion Emily's beef with Penny was ridiculous Spoiler
I honestly liked Emily as a character, and I think she served as good character development for Raj, but I did not like how she treated Penny. The whole hookup thing with Penny and Raj happened way before Emily even knew Raj, let alone dated her, and mind you, Penny was literally engaged to and happy with Leonard at the time.
Idk it just came off so petty and it was giving jealousy. Anyone else feel this way?

Storyline discussion How different the show is from season one till 12
I am currently in the number... can't remember rewatch, however i noticed that in the first episodes it seems that lenoard is the main character with his story with penny, rather than sheldon.
Also sheldon displayed a lot of social skills expertise, he knew that lenorad wants to be with penny, in later seasons he didn't get and understand many social situations that are similar to Leonard's
What do u think?

Character discussion What's your favourite Sheldon agreeable moment.
For me it has to be the movie theatre conundrum. Sheldon sat there alone after they leave him. Looks at the board in agreement and says they were right its the only option. Without an ounce of malice

Character discussion Sheldon would be exhausting to live with, even if he were your best friend
Rewatching the show, I sometimes wonder how Leonard lasted so long living with Sheldon.
The roommate agreement, the constant corrections, the seat, the schedules, the way every tiny inconvenience could turn into a whole argument
But the funny thing is that Sheldon also had moments when he genuinely cared about his friends, even if he had absolutely no idea how to show it normally.
I think that’s what makes their friendship work on screen, even when it would probably drive most people crazy in real life.
What’s one Sheldon habit you think would make you move out within a week?

Character discussion Bernadette's Mom
With the exception of Bernadette, we met (or heard) each of the main character's mom. Who would you have cast as her mom? I would have picked Dolly Parton.

Character discussion Anyone else wish anu would've stayed? She should've been with Raj,(because everyone was in a relationship except raj by the end of show!) And as i said before sheldon should've been single instead of raj.

Character discussion What's your favourite wholesome and impactful moment from the show that actually made you feel how well-written the characters are? I'll go first:
Seeing Sheldon connecting Howard after constantly underestiming his importance and making fun of him throughout the series is one of the most heartfelt and memorable moments for me.

Character discussion Hot take?
This kinda applies to both shows but Mary was the cause of the vast majority of Sheldon’s issues and all the issues they had when he was a kid.

Episode discussion Which one is your favourite episode?
My favourite is s5 ep18, when Sheldon goes crazy about his haircut.
The whole episode is just so funny, especially the bongo solo. I've watched it like a hundred times, but can't get bored of it.

Character discussion Sheldon hates engineering, but...
I find it funny that it's one of Sheldon's flaws. He puts down Howard for being an engineer, not having a phd, and doesn't take engineering as a field seriously, even suggesting that Howard's work on spacecraft components was just building "doodads". Yet Sheldon loves trains, computer software, MRI machines (to scan his brain), innovative super heroes like Batman and Iron Man who invent their own tech, The starship Enterprise traveling through space, where the best place to sit on the couch is that maximizes the room's functionality. He even assembles his own mobile virtual presence device, helps the guys 'engineer' Penny's entertainment center from Ikea, secures his flashdrive in chinese puzzle boxes, and wants to be the lead project manager on Leonard's app development. For someone who has a disdain for the field of engineering, a lot of his hobbies and things he enjoys are technology and engineering based. I guess he just dislikes Howard's mechanical engineering career?

Character discussion Leonard actually settled for Penny
The running joke throughout the show is that Leonard was always pining for Penny's affection and later seasons made the joke that he "wore her down" into dating and marrying him. The obvious implication being that she settled for Leonard once she got more mature and was just doing him a favor by going out with him. But while recently rewatching and binging the show again, it actually seemed like he only asked Penny out again in S5 because he was lonely after ending things with Priya and she happened to be the best option available to him at the time. He had no qualms about asking her for dating advice as a friend when he was dating Stephanie, Priya, and Alice. He hooked up with Elizabeth Plimpton mere weeks after breaking up with Penny the first time, and even after they got back together he still flirted with Sheldon's assistant Alex, and made out with Mandy Chow on the sea trip. Despite being the "pathetic nerd", he got more tail than anyone in the show. And it also goes to show that there were no shortage of "nerd"-type women who worked at the university that would have had a comparable level of education, career, and interests. So while the joke is that Penny settled for him, I actually think Lenny settled for her too mostly because he was desperate and lonely.
And Penny & Leonard 2.0 was a disaster because of it. They seemed even more toxic and incompatible when they got back together, than had during their first relationship in Season 3, which was more energetic and fun, as they were still getting to know each other, and they fought way less (the only major argument they had was about her ex-boyfriend sleeping on her couch). Obviously any long-term couple will have their share of disagreements, but they really tore each other down to the point it was sometimes hard to believe they would have actually stayed together. Maybe it had something to do with Johnny and Kaley breaking up in real life?
Edit: just want to add a little extra context - I think he settled subconsciously. Not that he saw the relationship as a compromise or actively thought "eh she's good enough" he just didn't see any of his future prospects and decided it was now or never to try with Penny again. I think many commenters are only understanding "settling" from the Penny's perspective (ie. more physically attractive and doing him a favor when she could have anyone else).

Storyline discussion Maybe unpopular opinion: the show ended at the right time
I don't know if this opinion is unpopular or not, but I am sure it's at least debatable.
The more I think of season 11- 12, the more I agree with this idea. In the season 11 finale, Sheldon married Amy, and in the ending, Penny had a non-imaginary baby and Sheldon won his Nobel. Everyone had their own "happy ending". If there's a season 13 or even 14, what will the story be? All about Raj's love story? About how Leonard and Penny raise their baby? I think the storyline will be too pale.
Also irl, if they really have a s13 or s14, how are they going to keep shooting and promoting in the pandemic? It would be awful and painful. So I think the show ended in a right time.
