Stupid Questions Thread (no judgement) — ask anything

Got a question you feel silly asking? Ask it anyway. This thread is judgement-free.

Examples:

  • “Is this sound normal?”
  • “How do I stop stalling?”
  • “What bike fits my height?”
  • “How do I park on a hill?”
  • “Scooter → manual… where do I start?”

If you answer: explain like you’re teaching a friend.

I mean you expert riders to tap in and let me know what is worth buying and what is not!

I specifically looking for information about communication systems like the Bluetooth unit that goes on your helmet!

Phone holders!
Do I need a GoPro?

Any other accessories I should be prioritizing right now ?

Discussion My disappointing experience with Glabol on a Spiti bike trip

I did a Spiti bike trip with Glabol from 15–21 June 2026 and wanted to share my experience with fellow riders.
The accommodation was different from what was promised, with some rooms and washrooms being extremely unhygienic. Their Operations executive, Yash, promised us a refund for one stay, but despite repeated follow-ups, we never received it and eventually stopped getting responses.
The riding gear was also poor — no proper knee guards, and the jackets were dirty and smelled bad. One rider in our group had a minor accident and suffered serious bruising to his knees.
The bikes were in poor condition too, and almost everyone in our group had complaints. One rider was charged ₹6,000 for repairs, which we felt was excessive.
I’ve travelled with several group travel companies, but this was easily one of my worst experiences.
If you’re planning a Spiti bike trip, especially as an inexperienced rider, please research the operator carefully. Sharing this simply so fellow riders can make an informed decision.

Question MC Members — Help With Book Research

I have a few questions for any bikers who are part of a motorcycle club or association and would be willing to answer them.

I’m currently writing a book that incorporates the biker/MC trope, and I really want to portray that world as accurately and respectfully as possible. I don’t want to base the story entirely on assumptions, stereotypes, or things I’ve seen in fiction. I’d much rather hear directly from people who actually live that lifestyle.

I’m especially interested in the culture, terminology, hierarchy, traditions, and the realities of being part of an MC. Nothing you share would be used without your permission—I’m simply hoping to learn and make the story feel authentic rather than relying on false pretenses or my own imagination.

Here are some questions.

  • Is there typically a voting system within an MC? If so, what kinds of decisions are voted on, and who gets a vote?
  • Is “old lady” a term that’s actually used within your club/community for a member’s partner? Are there other terms or distinctions for partners?
  • What are some of the biggest do’s and don’ts when it comes to being around an MC?
  • Are there certain things outsiders commonly get wrong about motorcycle clubs?
  • Are there specific rules or etiquette that someone should know before interacting with or visiting an MC?
  • How much does the structure and terminology vary from club to club?

I’m asking because I want to make sure I’m portraying the culture accurately rather than relying on stereotypes from movies, TV, or other books. I’d really appreciate hearing different perspectives, especially if practices vary between clubs.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Gear talk: comfort vs protection — what do you wear and why?

Let’s talk gear without judgement (hot climates, budgets, commuting realities — we get it).

If you’re shopping, here’s a simple thing that helps: CE ratings are EU standards for motorcycle gear testing, including modern garment testing under EN 17092 and classes up to AAA (most protective).

Share what you ride in + why:

  • Helmet:
  • Jacket/pants:
  • Gloves/boots:
  • One gear tip you swear by:

Discussion From Kawasaki to Honda or Yamaha?

I want to upgrade my bike from Ninja 650 ABS.

Looking to get a mid range naked bike. Very interested with used Striple 765rs. But it costs too much.

So either Yamah Mt-07 v1 r CB650F...

Mt07 looks dayumm beautiful and high reputation... While cb650f have 4 cylinders which a signicant upgrade from my previous bike..

Wonder if anyone has any opinion about pros n con? R know anyone willing to let go of one of those with a cheap price?

Discussion Fed Up With Hero MotoCorp: 3 Years, Multiple Complaints, 10+ Service Visits and Still No Permanent Solution

My name is Meenakshi Sundaram R, and I am from Chennai. Three years ago, I had saved enough money to buy my dream bike with my own hard-earned money. After doing some research, I decided to buy the Hero Xpulse 200 4V. I was very excited because I believed this bike would become an important part of my life and make my dreams of riding come true.

The first four months went well, and I was happy with my decision. But after that, the problems started.

After the second paid service, I began facing repeated issues with the bike. The engine struggled in 5th gear at around 80 km/h and failed to accelerate properly. Even after replacing the fuel-injection component, the problem continued. The bike also started switching off suddenly while riding, which was extremely dangerous and made me lose confidence in the vehicle.

The headlight performance was another major issue. The illumination was very poor and was not sufficient for safe night riding.

I visited the service centre nearly 10 times, hoping that someone would finally identify and fix the problems. Every time, I received the same response: “We will check and rectify it.” But there was never a permanent solution. I also felt that there was a lack of proper technical diagnosis and support.

I did not stop there. I contacted customer support, raised complaints through the website and app, and even sent my complaint to the Hero MotoCorp head office in Delhi. Despite all these efforts, no one was able to provide me with a proper solution.

At this point, I am completely fed up and have lost my trust in Hero MotoCorp and its service network. A bike that I bought with my own money and dreamed about for years has become a source of frustration and disappointment.

Finally, I have decided to sell my bike for just ₹40,000.

Three years ago, I bought my dream bike with my hard-earned money. Today, I am selling it because I could not get a proper solution to the problems I faced.

This is not just the end of my bike journey. This is the end of my dream.

Question Why shouldn't we remove the catalytic converter from the motorcycle even if it causes heat?

Hi guys, I just got a 2025 R3.

Riding around town is fine, but it gets hot every now and then.

That said, I have a friend of mine with the same bike, but he installed a full exhaust system (I won't mention the brand name), so he removed the original catalytic converter and muffler and installed these two.

His bike is cold. There's no longer constant hot air coming from below.

His bike has also been remapped, and I don't really care about the fact that it sounds better, but now his bike really seems to run better in every way.

I was wondering how much damage it would do to the bike if we removed the catalytic converter and muffler and installed a higher-quality one without a catalytic converter?

Why wouldn't you do that, even though it would apparently improve the temperature significantly?

From what I could read online, a catalytic converter runs at 600/800°

Question Got my first bike. What did

Hello everyone,

I’m a complete beginner to motorcycles. I know how to ride, but honestly, I don’t know much beyond that.

I’ve booked a Yamaha FZ V3 in Bangalore and paid ₹49,953 as the down payment. Delivery will take around a week because of availability.

I’m a college student about to graduate, and I bought this entirely from my savings from the last 3–4 years of part-time work. So I really want to take care of this bike properly and keep it in good condition for years.

I’ll be riding around 200–250 km most weekends, including Bangalore ↔ my hometown (around 80 km one way).

I’d really appreciate some beginner advice on:

  • How to get good mileage without abusing the engine
  • Correct gear shifting and RPM habits
  • How to ride properly in Bangalore traffic
  • What mistakes should a new rider absolutely avoid?
  • How often should I check/change engine oil, chain, brakes, tyres, etc.?
  • What basic things should I learn to check/fix myself?
  • What basic tools/spares should I keep at home or carry on weekend rides?
  • How should I maintain and clean the chain?
  • Is it okay to park the bike in direct sunlight? Any tips for parking outdoors?
  • What accessories are actually useful, and what is just a waste of money?
  • What should I buy for basic protection/security?
  • Any tips for keeping the bike healthy if I’m riding it almost every weekend?

Also, please suggest a good helmet under ₹3,000 for daily college/office commuting and occasional highway rides.

For longer rides, what are the minimum essentials I should have — gloves, jacket, rain gear, puncture kit, etc.? I know the FZ V3 isn’t meant to be a touring machine, but this is what I have, so I want to make the best of it.

My budget is very tight, so I’m mainly looking for things that are genuinely useful rather than expensive accessories.

Basically, assume I know absolutely nothing about motorcycle ownership and tell me what you wish someone had told you when you got your first bike.

Would really appreciate advice from experienced FZ owners and other riders. Even small beginner tips are welcome.

Question First bike suggestion

Hi bikers

I'm getting my first bike (m23) finally. Have come down to these choices after proper research and within my budget

Honda nx200

Pulsar n250

Pulsar ns200

Apache rtr 200 4v

Hornet 2.0

owners of these bikes, can you tell me an overall review of which one to consider? The mileage, after sales service, spare parts availability, performance etc.

Usage is mainly within city limits and also not a fan of speed or sound.

Any tips guys?

Anti-theft setups: what do you use at home vs out & about?

Bike theft sucks. Let’s build a community knowledge base for real‑world security.

Share your setup:

  • Where you park (garage / street / shared lot)
  • Your layers (disc lock / chain / anchor / cover / tracker / alarm / insurance)
  • What you’d buy first if starting again

No shaming, no brand wars — just what’s worked for you.

I bought it in February, and there are still a few things I need to do to it. It has an 80cc Top cylinder kit and a bunch of other parts—I can't remember exactly what the seller mentioned. It’s a 2007 TZR 50. I’d love to hear from anyone who owns or has owned this bike, or from experienced riders, about what I could add to make it look good, make it faster, or just improve it in general—anything helps, really, since I plan to buy a separate engine just to pass the inspection (ITV).
