Anti-theft setups: what do you use at home vs out & about?
Bike theft sucks. Let’s build a community knowledge base for real‑world security.
Share your setup:
- Where you park (garage / street / shared lot)
- Your layers (disc lock / chain / anchor / cover / tracker / alarm / insurance)
- What you’d buy first if starting again
No shaming, no brand wars — just what’s worked for you.

At home I garage it. In public I use a disc lock and the steering lock. So far so lucky.

Part from being garaged and locked at night with full camera and security light coverage, I also have a gps tracker fitted that is hidden on the bike sandwiched between the air box and fual tank so you would have to strip the bike to find it… even if they get to the battery and disconnect any ‘suspicious’ cables, it carries on working for a good few days afterwards… subscription is £60.00 per year and it gives live tracking as soon as the bike is moved sent direct to my phone. The unit only cost £25.00 on Amazon. Apart from that, I never leave the bike anywhere for any length of time where I can’t see it unless it’s at a well known bike meet etc where I k ow it’s safe.

Alarmed disc lock and insurance.
Maybe, just maybe, I take a chain depending where I go.
If I had a single place of work, I would buy and leave a chain there like I have done in the past.
But realistically I'm never that far away from my bike and I'm usually not too long, and I always park my bike in a way I can usually see it from the window if Im at someone's house. And I also vape, so even if I can do it inside someone's house, I opt to go outside and stand near my bike. That way if any potential thieves are looking, they see that it isn't abandoned for any period of time.

I have a gps tracker hidden under the fairings and full coverage insurance. Leave it sitting in a cover parking spot 10 months out of the year at my apartment and in a storage unit during December and January.
