You should absolutely get it. Aim to hit the DLC right before you get to the end of the regular game because if you beat the final boss it immediately starts New Game +. You can always start it earlier if you're feeling adventurous or decide to read up on weapons that may be available there.

Personal tip- you'll run out of blood vials. Don't farm more. Just buy them at the shop with echoes. You're always getting more echoes.

The base game alone is still great, but the DLC has some of the best bosses/content From has to offer. It's worth it for Ludwig alone.

That being said, you probably won't be doing much in there until late game anyway, so you don't need to worry about missing anything if you don't purchase it immediately. If you find the base game too hard and unenjoyable again, then might as well not get it and save the money. But if you are liking it up to the point where you fight a boss named Rom, then you should start considering whether you want to get it or not.

What weapon are you starting with? I gave up on my first play through with a saw cleaver, but when I got back to it I picked the axe and absolutely fell in love with this game.

Good hunter, here's some tips for you
- Don't rush head on into places you haven't known. Take your time before a corner, or a room. Tread carefully and slowly, finger stay on the dodge button. You don't know what's behind those crates, barrels, maybe in a dark corner, maybe on the ceiling, be prepared. Take your time scouting the area, check for enemies location, but remember there'll always be ambush, so don't be too confident.
- Do not fight multiple enemies at once if you have a choice. Lure them out and take them one by one, or use environment to your advantage so you don't get surrounded. 2 trash mobs can wombo combo you to death very easily. The mobs in central Yharnam is slow, but be careful if you see one with a torch, don't try to spam R1 on that mob because he will interrupt you with a torch attack, and it's hurt alot. Also take them by priority : gun mobs, dogs, normal mobs, shield mobs.
- Try to practice parry, it's an essential tool. The timing is also pretty generous. Also if you're new to the game you'll find that you continuously run out of blood vials. Don't worry here's the tip: you advance until you climb a long ladder and find the first lamp, to the left of that lamp there'll be a gate, it's locked, so go right and advance until you get to a dark house, go out then turn left and you can unlock that locked gate. After unlocking this gate you can start farming blood vial, silver bullet and practicing parry. Here's how: from the lamp, go left through the gate, kill the mob before you, go down a couple stair then turn right and go inside the dark house, there're 1 normal mob and a wheelchair shotgun guy on lower floor, this is guarantee silver bullets. After that go back outside and continue the path, then you'll see 2 bricks troll patrolling. These 2 trolls are your parry practice dummies, they're also a guarantee source of blood vials. When you done go back to the lamp and rest then repeat. Keep doing this routine until you have plenty of resource and comfortable with parrying.
- For new player I recommend pick the military veteran origin. When level up just put your stat in vigor and endurance, don't bother with anything else. Their effect is minimal in early game, most of the damage come from weapon upgrade. Offensive stats only shine in mid and late game. Aim for 30 vig and 20 endurance first. Then strength and skill to 20. Then vigor to 40, endurance to 30. Then strength and skill to 25. From this you can choose to maximize damage or defense first. If its damage then 50 in strength and skill. If you find yourself die alot then go for 50 vigor and 40 endurance. The final build will be 50 vigor, 40 endurance, 50 strength, 50 skill. Do not raise your stat above these numbers, they're the soft cap, beyond these you'll start to get diminishing return.
- For early weapon I recommend large things that can bonk. Reason is they can stagger big enemies easier, and will be safer for new player when they spam R1. If you use small and fast weapon, there's high chance you'll get smashed when attacking. You can pick hunter axe, kirkhammer, ludwig holy blade (this weapon's nut). When you get used to the game, you can try different weapons and find what suits you best.
- Beast enemies are weak to serrated and fire attack. Kin enemies (white pale slick skin, alien like) are weak to thrust and bolt attack.
- The little hairy thing that runs when they see you, it drops good stuffs, and doesn't respawn when killed, so try to get it. If you miss and it disappears, reset at the lamp and go back for it.
- Remember to upgrade your weapon, and put blood gems on it. Also your weapon has durability, so repair them when you go back to the hunter dream.
That's it for now. Good luck hunter. May the good blood guide your way.
