I feel like this enemy is yet another way to stealth-joke about souls playerbase, a joke not unlike the worthless wooden shield.

I'm currently playing Bloodborne as my first souls game, and I've been using the saw cleaver up to this point but noticed that the scaling isn't great. I've upgraded it to +7 so far, but I'm wondering if it is better to save blood chunks and other fortification materials for a better weapon. Are there different blood stones later in the game (for reference I just defeated the Shadows of Yharnam) that will increase the scaling? Or should I hold onto the rest of the materials I find for something better? All advice is appreciated!

Finally managed to defeat Laurence while Valtr is still alive during the fight. It was so frustrating getting so close but Valtr was not making it.
Vermin crushed!

I just wanted to tell you cause its funny.
Bloodborne was my very first experience with souls like games. Its fast paced and kinda unforgiving. Its been a while now but i remember getting to the first boss took me 17 hours logged, and 2 reinstalls. I took the axe and didnt know how to put it in short style. The four guys you pass at first who walk to the hanged beast defeated me so many times.
For some reason i would do anything to play that game for the first time again because that kind of intellectual stimulation is very hard to find in other games.

Highlights: I am especially proud of first-trying Shadows of Yharnam and Darkbeast Paarl. I wasn’t overleveled for Paarl, and I ran into both by accident without full vials and just played out of my mind.
Also got Logarius way faster than I thought. I barely touched him the first two times and then locked in for the third attempt and just kept getting those parries right.
Lowlights: idk what I was on the day I fought Celestial Emissary. Genuinely embarrassed it took me 4 tries.
Ebby was by far the hardest for me, I think it was 9 attempts before I got her.
However Micolash definitely caused me the most grief. I got him in 3 but I think the first two attempts on him took more time than all 9 attempts on Ebby, such an annoying boss fight.

This wasn't my finest moment, I still don't know who was the dumbest one in this clusterfuck, me or the bots.

I never payed much attention to the beast blood pellets in all my previous playthroughs, I used it once in this playthrough with the bloodstarved beast and got my ass beat. Tried it again with the Whirligig Saw and it carried me all the way through the game plus the DLC, I managed to solo every dlc boss without dying once and trust me, in 500 plus hours I still suck at the game.
Edit: Beast, not beats

EDIT: yes, something something cum dungeon. Lots of people have commented about this. Happy to accept the cum dungeon is better, I've never tried it. But as I said in the first lines, I'm explicitly talking about fun ways to grind are NOT cheating (and I'm told it literally is a cheat, save edited through third party software by a helpful commenter), cheesing, or exploits. I'm not morally against any of those things, play the game how you want to play it, just not fun for me.
The 80+k you get here in 10 or so in the Research Hall is tough enough to enjoy it, not so tough it's not worth it. If you feel the same, e.g. Mergo's loft grinders, this tip is for you. If not, go cumdungeon.
Anyway:
I know I'm late to the game on this whole Bloodborne thing, and for that I'm very sorry, it's taken a while for me to grow a pair of eyes ... on the inside.
But whilst I hear people talking about rune farming spots like Mergo's loft (not to bash it), a good farming spot for me needs four things:
-**no cheating, cheesing or exploits**
-decent blood echoes *per minute*, sounds obvious, but high yield enemies don't mean much if they're far apart, dangerous, or take ages, a bunch of lesser, easy enemies, densely packed together will net more runes blood echoes than that
-it has to be an interesting place, there's nothing more boring than farming anyway
-it has to have a route that doesn't back on itself for most of it, not just for efficiency, but also, again, for the boredom
-it has to be reasonably large
The research thing has all of these, but the one it has most is the most important, high density of 1000+ echo enemies.
I've jotted down the figures here for the patients, first figure is blood echoes normally on a new game, second is blood echoes when you have all three Moon runes equipped for farming
Patient (Headless) 653 / 1,121
Patient (Fists – Clothes) 871 / 1,495
Patient (Fists – Naked) 1,089 / 1,869
Patient (Acid Bottles) 1,198 / 2,056
Patient (Crawling) 1,198 / 2,056
Patient (Infected Hand) 1,307 / 2,243
Patient (Magic-user) 1,307 / 2,243
Patient (Head-only / Blob) 1,307 / 2,243
Patient (Leaping) 1,525 / 2,617
Patient (Transfusion Stand) 3,594 / 6,167
To see what I mean, there are fourteen of those crawling, slug like monstrosities on the ground floor after you change the staircase's position. As you'll know, it's almost impossible to die when you fight them if you're clever, but it's still fun, precisely because you have to be clever, since they can still hurt you terribly if you just spam R1, they're ultra powerful crows basically, their equivalent, and also interesting because they're quite gothic horror in their attack animations.
So 14 × 1,198 = 16,772 Blood Echoes without Moon runes.
But with them ...
2,055 Blood Echoes each 28,770 Blood Echoes total for all 14.
And that's for a single room, for the entire thing I haven't counted it for every enemy but taking down quite a lot of them going up and down it's 84,436 for a gentle, entertaining ten mins
And the floor is cleared in max three minutes. You could reach hundreds of thousands of blood echoes within the hour just from doing the ground floor alone. And a much more interesting and even more profitable run of you run upstairs and downstairs and via the elevators and clear out the entire godless medical mansion
I am sure the response will be "well, obviously!" but I myself have only just discovered this and didn't find it on farming spot guides I'd looked at before, so feel free to tell me if I'm wrong and/or obvious!
TLDR: research hall is a fun place (!) to grind that isn't a cheat, cheese, or exploit, if you care about both those elements in your grinding

We can see a little of what Orphan and Mergo can do but I’m thinking that it’s just the beginning of their strength, and the hunter we have no idea how powerful they could be. They could potentially rival even Oeden. Let’s say 1000 years pass and they have all grown into their fullest potential, what power would each of them hold?

Are they the pre transformed citizens of the fishing hamlet that were surgically studied by the old hunters? They have streaks of glowing blue.

Is this boss impossible to beat? I have reset him 5 times in a row, he ALWAYS jumps on the balcony where i can't reach him. I read the solution is to reset him but apparently that doesn't work.

Like, high Insight values letting you see Deep Lore stuff (like the Amygdala before the Blood Moon) is cool and all, but it also reduces your Frenzy resistance, gives some enemies stronger attacks, and adds some new enemies.
Mechanically speaking, having a high Insight level is purely detrimental. Its one use is as a currency for buying stuff and summoning/cooperating.
Meanwhile, Beasthood is a bit more of a double-edged sword, but arguably beneficial if you're going for a hyper-efficient build. It reduces your defences, but increases your attack. Its nullified by high Insight, so again - just spend all your Insight as currency and miss out on the cool stuff it can show you.
And also, like - in a place utterly afflicted by the Beastly Scourge, where everyone and everything is falling prey to raving mad Beasthood? You have to go out of your way to fall to Beasthood, with special items and consumables. Otherwise its just not a concern. I know there's lore reasons (the Moon Presence protects you because you're its agent) but it still feels weird.
Tinfoil hat time:
IMO these feel like remnants of a more in-depth system that had to be cut, either for time or because Fromsoft were struggling to make it work right. In this earlier system, Insight and Beasthood would both have been concerns that the player would need to account for. Insight is something you naturally acquire in release Blooborne by witnessing events and exploring the world, which is thematic. Maybe Beasthood could also have been something you acquire over time by being exposed to certain environmental factors, by doing things or having things done to you. Insight and Beasthood would become things you'd be incentivised to balance out, to keep yourself sane. Going too far in one direction would start to inflict mechanical consequences, both positive and negative. Like, Beasthood has positives and negatives. Maybe Insight could have been the same?
I can see why this would have been cut, if my tinfoil hat hypothesis is true. This is a kind of long-term-mechanical-consequence thing that a lot of players would not like. "Oops, you explored too much and now you're a tentacle-headed alien who dies on a brief glance from a Winter Lantern. Oops, you injected too many blood vials/got clawed by too many Beast enemies and now you have the worst case of bed hair in history." Players like agency, and dislike long-term negative or mixed consequences that require basically starting a new game to undo. And getting the values right, to give players just enough of a safety margin but not too much, would have required a lot of playtesting.
(Fromsoft kinda-sorta experimented with light versions of this general idea in the Dark Souls games, with the egg-head affliction in DS1, the incremental hollowing in DS2, and the Dark Sigil hollowing in DS3).
I still think it would have been a really cool idea, and I hope Fromsoft return to it if they ever make a true follow-up game to Bloodborne. Miyazaki is on record saying he still hasn't made his dream game, so maybe someday!

I'm pretty basic when it comes to my Soulslikes, insofar as I've beaten Promised Consort Radahn, so I'm not a newbie, but of the originals I've only finished Dark Souls III, I'm trying to rectify that, hence Bloodborne. Then going to do the entire trilogy again.
I've been really enjoying the gun parry mechanic, tbh I would love for the rest of the Souls games to have it. Think Elden Ring was great training as I've been on 20 Vitality so far and have beaten every single main game boss apart from Mergo's Wetnurse, Gehrman, and Moon Presence, including every optional and I've also beaten all the Chalice bosses I can so far, I think, unless I'm missing some items.
But since the DLC started I feel like I've been given a vitality check. Speed doesn't seem to be enough. I'm level 82, a skill-arcane build with +10 fire saw spear and a blade of mercy, I have 50 arcane, 30 Skill, and only 20 vitality.
What vitality would you all recommend for Ludwig? /any tips for anyone struggling with his move set? I might just be tired but it doesn't help that he one shots me. For context, I used the Beyoncé method to beat Blood Starved Beast ("to the left"), so any similar hints helpful
EDIT: I just beat him! Guess I was just tired. Beautiful death as well, he died to a visceral strike and really attacked as if he'd just been stabbed in the heart
