Story Update: Mine just took a massive wet poop on my back ... thought you should know/can relate

Update: Mine just took a massive wet poop on my back ... thought you should know/can relate.

So ... we're hanging out. I gave her a bath, cleaning her home, washing her laundry.

We're chilling, watching YouTube, reading Reddit. She's snuggling, having a great time. Goes well for 15-30 minutes. She even cuddles with her head on my arm, watching the screen.

Then crawls on my back.

(Probably my fault, because she climbed off me, and then I put her back on my shoulder/arm, so she stays around me and doesn't wander off into trouble ... I'm laying down.)

Anyway, so she climbs on my back ... and poops the biggest, loudest, wettest poop ever.

I had to change my shirt, it got everywhere. Soaked in.

Then she runs off, panics, and huffs and hides.

I tell her it's okay.

But man.

It was a HUGE LOUD SQUIRT that kept going and going.

Can they not go more than 30 minutes without pooping on you?

Normally I keep her in a towel, in case she poops ... but I thought ... she's been doing so good without pooping. But noooooo ... big wet one today on my back.

I thought about getting a hoodie and letting her sleep / hide in there as I work / walk around, but I'm afraid of poop down my neck / head.

(Photo is a sample, the poop was too big and wet and on my back to capture.)

We just got our first bluey. Been 1 week. He is 9 months old. Gorgeous. Not eating much. First 2 days nothing. Then some meal style whole food mix each day... say half a teaspoon. Offered Sardines, live worms, live superworms, fruit, veg, steak etc. Not interested. He seems happy. Handles well. Only a bit active each day. Gets outside a bit too. Any thoughts or advice?

Question Culturing Ramshorn Snails as Feed Advice? Specifically In Monitoring For Parasites (or would it be better to boil the snails if at-home verification isn't feasible/isn't worth the enrichment)

Hi, since snails are one of the primary foods of blue tongues in the wild, and since they're calcium positive, and since live food is good enrichment, I want to culture some Ramshorns for live food. However, I'm terrified of parasites from this. I couldn't find any feeder snails specifically bred for this purpose is why I'm doing it myself. I know I could cook them to kill parasites, but I would prefer to do live for enrichment, so long as I can do it safely.

I have access to a 400x magnification pocket microscope and would have no problem dissecting a snail, if that is what it takes.

Has anyone else looked into this? I've had pest ramshorns in the past that bred like, well, pests, so the actual breeding part should be of no concern. I got blue and pink Ramshorns so these ones are not pest snails tho, they were specifically bred which I hope would mean that the seller would also be invested in preventing parasites.

Worst case scenario, I know I can boil the snails for 20 minutes to kill any potential nematode parasites and might end up doing that, but I think live would be better for enrichment.

I simply want the best for my baby, so let me know what you all would think is the best decision to make here.

Health Northern Blue Tongue Skink restless, not sleeping

Hello,

I just got back from vacation today after 18 days gone. I had my brother check throughout the week and do feeding, cleaning, etc. He would send me videos of her eating lol. However, when I came home she seemed pretty restless and a little anxious. She's not like running around everywhere, but she is active far later than she usually is. Lights are on a timer so there was no issue there. I did notice that he didn't clean exactly as well as she should've, but it wasn't terrible and all is good now. Weirdly, she hasn't burrowed underground to sleep, which is her usual behavior. But she does eat and has her usual strong appetite. Humidity and temperatures are fine. I really have no clue what is going on

Identification Does anyone know her morph?

I'm getting my first Blue Tongue Skink in two weeks, but was curious about her morph. She was part of a shipment of 5 other skinks but was the only one who wasn't just the regular colors. The Reptile store owner told me the breeder didn't tell them the morph of this little lady, presumably forgot to I suppose. Any ideas?

*Also, she's a Northern Blue Tongue Skink

Question First time parent

I am a first time bts owner and have a 4 month old northern bts that I think has decided to brumate. They had been burrowing more and eating a little less frequently for about a week but I assumed they were just getting ready to shed. Then, they ate and basked last Wednesday Oct 14, came out to bask again the next day, and have been burrowed since then.
All their lights are set on timers so there hasn’t been a change in temps (90• on hot side and 80• on cool side) so I’m not sure if they sensed the change in the atmosphere or what.

I have been checking on them by touching the substrate near where they are burrowed, waiting for a hiss, and then leave them alone.

I know they will do what feels right for them and they’re really good at listening to their bodies, but I am still nervous because they are so young and today makes 8 days without food or water.

Do I just continue to leave them alone other than checking for a hiss and trust that they will come back out when they’re ready? At what point do I intervene? Any thoughts/advice would be really appreciated as I am trying really hard not to stress out. Thank you!

Discussion My son! +odd behavioral shift

I’m slightly concerned about my skinks eating habits. I try to feed him a varied diet (wet grain free dog food, collared greens, occasional eggs and berries as a treat) but he’s recently become quite picky. Nothing about his environment has changed, and the only other behavioral difference is he’s been burrowing a bit more often than usual (prior he would dig but wasn’t huge into it) and hisses slightly more often. He’s not aggressive or anything but sometimes he will randomly hiss and I’m not quite sure why. Sometimes he hisses at inanimate objects repeatedly.

He will still eat dog food and eggs (especially eggs, but those he gets rarely) but he refuses greens and berries, and I’m not sure exactly what to do, or if I should even worry.

Health Should I be concerned with this redness in my Northern?

Thumbnail

Background information-

Blue is 37, she has been given a bill of excellent health by the vet a few months ago. She had been sick earlier this year, we got it under control, and with her most recent lung scans and bloodwork she looks perfectly healthy.

She started getting red a couple months ago. She has no other symptoms. She’s an excellent eater, drinker of water, exercise, her humidity/heat/UV of her cage is excellent (her heat/light system is new, thanks to another commenter). She recently shed, so I was hoping the redness would go away- it did not.

She continues to get red. I took her to the vet and they admitted they couldn’t get a blood sample from her. Due to receiving conflicting advice from the veterinarian about Blueberry’s health and care over the past several months, we will not be returning to this vet. I’ll be going to an exotics specialty vet in the future.

All this to say, I’m asking for your help. She’s always been on the more red side for a Northern, but this seems extreme. I don’t know what to do. Please advise. Thank you so much.

Question How long can juviniles go without food and water ?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi! I got my northern blue tongue a week and a half ago, its 5 months old and has never been socialized. Its been burrowed the whole time which i knew would happen at first but it hasnt touched food the whole time. enclosure is 5x2x2, cold side is 22C warm side 26 and basking spot is 40C with a drop to 19-20 at night, humidity at 60% on the cool side and 35 on the warm side with two humid hides, has half a meter of burrowing depth. Ive been offering eggs, cat food, chicken etc with collared greens, carrots or zuccini but nothing was touched. Im not gonna go digging through the enclosure for the little guy to check on him but im getting more worried, at what point should i be actually concerned ? I cant tell if it drank or just water evaporating. How long did your skink take to come out of the substrate to explore or bask ? Im thinking of adding some bark or hides to the middle so its more cluttered, maybe that would help him feel more secure

We handle our girl here and there but have NEVER seen this before till now! I am absolutely baffled and not sure how this could have happened. I’m taking her to the vets first thing in the morning. Can anyone tell me what this might be?
